These are not Magic Blankets, and they do not make sound disappear - but they are useful for making minor improvements to a makeshift or in-process recording situation. I've used one to cover a window in an apartment bedroom to better record ADR for a film, and I've used one to cover an open door adjacent to an unfinished broadcast studio. In both situations the blankets cut down noticeably on incidental noise. They're also pretty good looking and well put together for the price. One note, you will probably find plastic cable ties or similar to be necessary to link these grommets to wall hooks.

    Sound Dampener

Comments about Matthews Sound Blanket with Grommets (57 x 96"):

Hung several Matthews sound blankets around the upper walls in our studio to dampen the echo and they worked like a charm. Had to add a grommet in the center of the long side since they only come grommeted in the four corners.

    Definite Improvement

    By d

Comments about Matthews Sound Blanket with Grommets (57 x 96"):

Great to quiet down outside traffic through a large window, but don't expect a miracle. I bought 2 and will probably use them doubled up when needed. But also great for calming down reflections in a live room. One side is black and the other sort of a grey digital "camo" pattern. I wish it had more grommets, and I wish the middle grommet on both sides was symmetrical, but it's 1" to one side of center on one side, and 1" to the other side of center on the other. But I'm glad I bought 2 and I'll be using these both around the studio for VO work and in the field.

Good quality blanket. Really helps to place these over windows when recording indoors on location.

I use this to help muffle traffic sound coming through a street-facing window. While it isn't designed to completely solve this problem, it did help a bit when layered with foam, shutters and curtains. It's the only sound blanket I found to fit a NYC apartment window, and I can hang it with non-permanent hooks so there are no nails in my short-term rental apartment.

We bought 10 blankets to acoustically treat our video studio. We hang them on the two walls that we believe contribute the most to our echo problem. The result was disappointing. We have no experience in acoustic treatment so the review may not be fair. We like the quality of the blankets themselves. The grommets are also convenient for us to pieces the blankets together.

This sound blanket is useful for a multitude of applications. You can block out windows, absorb sound on walls or flooring. Then use it to transport your instruments or furniture! I immediately used it in my Foley studio and noticed a substantial decrease in noise. These blankets are a little pricey, but undoubtedly worth every penny.
