Powerful toolWhy would you want to buy this product? 1.)Remote shutter release - that can be 30 feet away with the Canon extension cable. Photograph birds in the nest. Buy the extension cable – yes it cost about $70 but, if you do this kind of photography you will need it.2.)Remote timer – delay the shutter from 1 second to 99 hours. Photograph the moon's phases over time or anything with a cycle time. Combine this function with exposure count to have more capability.3.)Interval timer – photograph a flower bloom opening –Take a photo every X seconds for days, great for time laps photography. 1 second to 99 hours with or without limits on the number of exposures.4.)Long exposure – take a 15 min exposure of a night scene, etc. - 1 second to 99 hours.5.)Set exposure count – combine this function with other functions above to limit the number of exposures taken. A Zero value = no limits on the number of exposures taken. Some reviews have complained that this tool does not have an on /off switch. You do not need an on / off switch. The battery life with this device on 24 hours a day is over three years. Does your watch need a on / off switch?Others have stated that it is limited to 99 exposures, not true. "... set to 00 (blank setting) the number of time interval shooting will be unlimited." This product works great, gives you many options to photograph special subjects, is light weight, has a night light for the display and allows you to take a photo anytime by pressing the remote shutter release. You can start or stop any function by pressing the start / stop button. Yes the buttons are small, but it works fine for me.

I have just killed my third TC-80N3 and feel the need, finally, to review this piece of equipment. The timer remote is great functionally. It does everything you could need it to do. The backlight is effective, all the controls work fine, it is reliable and does what it is supposed to.The problem is that this is now, apparently, a [$] item. I think it was closer to 120 the last time I bought one. Let me say this simply: it's not worth it. The problem with this unit is that, eventually, the cord on the timer remote end pulls out. It has happened to all 3 of my TC-80N3's that I have owned. On the last one, I actually taped the connection to the remote as soon as I took it out of the box to prevent this from happening. It helped, but finally after maybe a year and a half or two years it has pulled out again.I use the timer remote for almost every shot I take, so I am definitely a heavy user. However, for [$], the knockoffs of which sell for 20 bucks, this thing should be more durable. Use braided wire, improve the strain relief on the remote end. Having this thing fail three time for the same reason every time is not acceptable.I would advise anyone buying this to tape or otherwise try to mitigate the issues on the remote end BEFORE they become a problem. For me, I have finally had it and will be buying the knockoffs. For 20, or even 50, bucks I can afford to have a backup which will be nice. The TC-80N3 is a good piece of gear for 50 bucks. For [$] it is a tremendous ripoff and severely lacking in quality.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

I use the TC-80N3 mainly for time lapse photography. I've only had it a couple weeks, but my initial findings (about ten hours of use) point to a solid product, much better than the off-brand remote trigger I have that has no intervalometer. Sometimes the trigger will swing around on the cord, but a little velcro ought to take care of that. It's easy to understand, set up and use.

Very reliable time lapse remote. The cable could be a bit longer - it tends to dangle off cameras on a tripod. Tape has always solved the problem.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

The TC-80N3 offers about 70% of the camera control features that the CamRanger has, but costs less than half and is much faster to setup.Since most of my camera control applications are related to Time Lapse, I am happy with the faster TC-80N3 setup (basically - setup is done within seconds). The only major feature that I use that the CamRanger has and the TC-80N3 does not have is: Focus-Stepping. If anyone from Canon reads these reviews, please note that Focus-Stepping is great for building high depth-of-field Macro images - if you add that feature to the TC-80N3 you'll intrigue a whole new class of photographer.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

aside from my camera body and lenses, this is one of the most essential pieces in my bag. I use this remote EVERY day and it has never let me down.

I am a professional photographer and a good part of my work is shooting real estate listing photos. Most are shot in HDR on a tripod... so an trigger is essential. I also like to shoot timelapse startrails and such. So let me dispell a few myths about this remote.

                1) First, I purchased this a few years ago and I use it all the time. I still have the original battery in it! It doesn't have an on/off switch and it doesn't matter. The battery lasts for years. I carry a spare battery with me... it'll probably be dead by the time I need it.

                2) My cable is not frayed at the base like many users have stated. I use this thing all the time and I'm not gentle with it. Granted, I don't yank on the cable and try to get another inch out of it. But it's usually hanging off of my camera as I'm moving around a house shooting pics. I toss it in my bag or on my desk and after 3+ years, it's not frayed. I believe that the other reviewers do have frayed cables... but what kind of abuse are THEY inflicting on it?

                3) Most importantly... the 99 shot limit is true and false. When setting a shot count, you can select 1-99 OR unlimited. Sure it would be nice to select exactly 214 shots or whatever, but if you are shooting timelapse and had to do the math to figure out the exact number of shots you needed, you already know the length of time required for that. Simply set it for unlimited and shot for 3 hours. In most cases for me, I just set my interval and shoot until I feel that I got enough footage... 3, 4, 5 hours. Not once have I ever thought about how many shots I needed. (PS... there's an app for that!)

This remote may be more expensive than others but I feel that it's worth every penny. Built solid, great functionality, works every time... no complaints here!

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

I have used the Remote only as manual shutter release, but in reviewing the features, it would appear that the interval timer, self timer, long exposure timer, exposure count controller and manual remote shutter switch provide all the functions one would need to augment those built into the camera. I used it on a 6D and the connection was firm and secure. I used it in a very dusty environment though not a wet one. I'm not sure how waterproof it is.

The remote timer is a perfect addition to my gadget bag. I have been using it for time lapse sequences and it works as specified. I only wish the counter could run greater than 99, but that's a minor inconvenience. No off button which is kind of unnerving, but the specs say the battery lasts three years so I can certainly live with that.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

I use this product mostly for timelapse videos with the Canon 6D, and it works exactly as I need it to.
The buttons and functions of the controller are fairly straight forward and easy to figure out after a few times playing with it. The controller syncs with the camera perfectly, acting as a great intervalometer, remote shutter, or timed shutter release mechanism. It is a must have for anyone wanting to do timelapse work, and highly convenient as a remote shutter for general landscape, or product photography (and many other forms of photography as well.) The only downside (which I was aware of before purchasing) is the length of the cord from the remote to the camera. It is fairly short, so if you need to have any sort of distance between yourself and the camera, you may need to purchase the extension wire for the remote. I use it without the extension, and like I said before, it works exactly as I need it to. All in all, great product, and worth the money.

This thing will do more than what it seems on the outside... You can "combo" the different types of things it will do, so for example, you can set a delay, and then have it run as an intervalometer... there's some new ground to be covered with that type of feature! Product feels nice. I don't like that there's no on/off button... although they state the battery will last a long time without a bother... just feel like I've left it on accidentally when I see the numbers on the face.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

I recently got into time-lapse photography. I wanted to capture a bud of an orchid as it blooms. With consistent lighting, this device gave me great results. It is multi-functional as it can also be a self-timer and remote trigger. I will also try the long-exposure feature next time when I decide on a subject. I'm very happy with this product overall.
