The Slik 700DX is an outstanding value! I bought the legs-only for less than [$]! Even the full assembly with head is less than [$]. I have several friends that have the complete tripod, so I am very familiar with it. I mounted a large Manfrotto ball head and couldn't be happier, although the combination becomes quite heavy compared to the Slik version. I love the silky action of the legs, the side clips for locking are very fast and sure, the adjustable collar for center post tension and the overall rock steadiness. I also like the rubber feet instead of spikes. The only thing I don't like is that the first opening position of the leg spread is a little tight. There are two other stops for widening the legs, and that's fine, But I would prefer a few more degrees of spread on initial opening. That is a very, very small complaint. It could use a decent shoulder strap. No complaints on function or appearance. I give it 5 stars out of 5 for function, reliability and value.Definitely superior to my Sanford & Davis' Magnum and Bogen 3011.My big Bogen 3051 is going to get a lot less use!

I purchased this tripod based on its load capacity rating for use with a gimble type lens support and large telephoto lenses. Once in use it's of my opinion that the load rating for this unit may be slightly over-stated. I have since switched my equipment around utilizing this tripod with lighter camera systems and thereby acheiving very good results. I would recommend this tripod to the casual photographer but as a professional there may be limits to its use.

I called B&H before I ordered and asked about a sturdy, solid tripod for around $. This is the one that was suggested, and it is built like a tank. It is heavy so if you are carrying it, look elsewhere.

Not the lightest tripod in the bag. But it certainly has the strength to hold the gear. As well as myself on occasion. I like the hight. No stooping the look through the viewfinder. But, it also can get down to ground level.

This tripod is a solid tripod. It opens up to a high level. It's going to be a little heavy to carry around all day on a back pack.

Comments about 700DX Pro Tripod Legs (Black):

I like these legs a lot. I used them to mount a qumi projector during a conference, and I plan to use them both for a DSLR and video. They are sturdy and the leg locks seem well designed, though I have had clip locks like this break before.

The biggest negative is that I'm used to Manfrotto legs and a way to lock the head on the legs. The fixture at the top where the legs screw in don't have the small set screws that my Manfrotto legs have, so sometimes when I pan, the head unscrews instead of swiveling. Other than that, this stacks up well against my Manfrotto legs.

I work for an major International Airport and wanted to do some video clips for a big presentation and originally did the first video with my DSLR. Video quality on a DSLR was superior but not perfect because the most minute shaking of the camera made the video look very amateur. I requested the company to purchase a tripod and I was given a $[$]budget and I found the SLIK Pro 700DX. I've had bad experiences with tripods under $100 and the really good ones seemed to go well above $[$]. The 700DX is amazing. The second I picked it this heavy tripod, I knew I had a good quality tripod, and my videos came out amazingly sharp and jitter-free. I'm no professional videographer, but it did what I needed it to do and exceeded my expectations. It also looks cool.

The tripod is very solid but easy to deploy. The legs lock solidly anywhere up to the maximum length. Each leg can be set at a different angle. I love it. For years I have resorted almost exclusively to handheld shots. Now my pictures are just that 'little bit more sharp' and in some cases they rival professional photos. If only I had tried this years ago.

I use this mostly for video. Like many have said it is fairly heavy but that is a plus when using it at a single location for video. I have added a hook to the bottom of the post and hang a weight (as much as 25 pounds) when shooting video. They are very stable, the price is right and they come with a nice bag for storage or transport.

I use this tripod for proconsumer videoing. Nice looking and hand feel are good. Setup is easy. Great value for the price.

What is the missing is the level gauge. The bag comes with the product is too cheap/flimsy. Can't the manufacturer make it better?

In general, this is a good product at bargain price.

Comments about 700DX Pro Tripod Legs (Black):

I was looking for a tall tripod (I'm 6'5"), and this fits the bill. I can use it comfortably without extending the center column all the way, which is great for stability. I've been doing macro work on uneven ground, manipulating my camera into all sorts of strange orientations, and this thing never flinches.

Set up is quick and easy, and I really like being able to splay the legs and remove part of the center column for really low shots.

Definitely recommend this, especially for tall photographers who need something that can elevate without getting wobbly.

I use my tripod for spotting long range shots and also as a support for shooting. This tripod is sturdy, smooth and easily handles my 16 pound rifle, as well as my support arm leaning on it. It is very stable in the wind as well. Heavier than some, but for my applications that is a plus. I looked at MANY tripods before buying this and this is hands down the best value going. SLIK could easily charge another 75 to 100 dollars for this and it would still be a good value. The fact it can get so low to the ground is another plus. The head attaches via a screw that has 2 sizes and needed to be switched for the head I purchased but that took all of 2 minutes. We'll have to see about durability, but it sure seems solid.Very pleased.

The ONLY thing about this tripod I didn't like was the locking ring to raise and lower the center post. Personal preference, I would have preferred a butterfly knob on the side. But it is effective.

The pros: Unlike the Manfrotto, the locking levers on this can be set. i.e. You want leg position #1? Push the lock all the way in. When you open the legs it stops at position #1. If you're like me and use position #2 a lot, leave the lock at the second notch. You can fold up the legs, move to your next spot, and unfold them and they lock in the 2nd position, no no fumbling with the lock. It's a small thing, but I set up/take down/set up so much that it made a big difference in my sanity.

Very sturdy, and that's with 17 pounds on it.

I use this tripod in corporate video production. It is very steady and well balanced due to it being rather heavy. Also, it works extremely well with fluid heads for movement because its weight. I would recommend this for any videographer or photographer, unless you plan on doing a lot of changes scenes. Get ready for a workout if that is the case.

The price makes this the best value for a tripod as sturdy as this is. The value overcomes the extra weight of the tripod.

This is a very solid, well made, sturdy tripod. Very little vibration. Only complaint is legs are a tad stiff when opening out in to position. I am betting this is adjustable but I have not investigated yet. Really not a problem, just a nit pick.
