Comments about Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2.0 Lens (6-Bit, Manual Focus):

Based on how I shoot, and what I value...This is a better lens for me than the 35mm sumicron. I have not used the 35 since buying the 28mm. Here are the key points:
      -Widest possible without additional viewfinder
-Better MTF chart than 35mm (sorry, engineer by profession)
-46mm filter not an issue as I don't enjoy moving filters between lenses.
-Viewfinder blockage, like living near train tracks, is something you will get used to and never notice by the end of a day. (still less than my fuji GSWIII)
-No issues at all shooting into the sun or other difficult senarios.

Last week's snap shots from vacation show how well the lens works when shooting into the sun. For me, this is the lens to have!

Comments about Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2.0 Lens (6-Bit, Manual Focus):

The optical performance of this lens is excellent. Resolution is great and CA almost completely lacking - at least on the shots I made with the lens so far. Distortion is well controlled. Vignetting is very high.

First copy of the lens was severely front focusing.

Comments about Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2.0 Lens (6-Bit, Manual Focus):

I'm a serious amateur photographer and (non-photography) businessman who often photographs all sorts of business and industrial situations. Salary from latter pays for toys from former. There's almost always a camera in my briefcase, and I travel extensively. This is an exceptional wide angle lens, and if you're making the jump to the M9 from a DSLR, a very forgiving lens to (re-)learn manual focus. I went to Leica to get wide aperatures, so it was either this lens or the 35 mm f1.4. It worked for me right out of the box [...]Surprisingly shallow depth-of-field at f2, especially at close-in focus, an effect that I had hoped for and found. Similar depth-of-field to other good wide angle lenses at higher aperatures. On the M9, be aware that the this lens uses the full viewfinder, and unlike most DSLRs (I'll use my Oly E-3 as a reference), the viewfinder effect is similar to attending an IMAX movie and sitting very close to the screen--your eye can't get it all without moving. In practice not a problem, but don't expect to see much beyond the edges of the frame. Another pleasant surprise--a screw-on circular polarizer works, at least in big-blue-sky situations. There is enough fall-off in intensity that the meter picks up the optimum polarizer setting. I have not yet tried other situations. I can confirm the other reviewers comment about the lens hood blocking the lower viewfinder corner. That said, the lens hood also comes off very quickly--it's clean design.

Comments about Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2.0 Lens (6-Bit, Manual Focus):

I have used this lens for about 3 weeks now and find it's size/weight to be very conducive for everyday usage. It has the typical sharp leica glow we have come accustomed to. Built is fabulous. I anticipate this will be one of my most favorite lenses to be used on the M9. Only criticism: minor viewfinder blockage with lens hood on. But, both typical and unavoidable for this lens. Highly recommend to any Leica m mount user.

Comments about Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2.0 Lens (6-Bit, Manual Focus):

I'm primarily a street shooter. This lens has the focal length and aperture to handle anything that comes along in my chosen window of opportunity.

Smooth focusing, extreme sharpness, snappy contrast, and great color rendition have made this lens my hands down fave.

Not having found any flaws, I'd recommend this great glass to anyone.
