I'm a firm believer in buying the best and having all the bells and whistles available to me, because it's inevitable that, one day, I will regret not having them. There has not been one electronic product that I have had in my life that I did not upgrade. Stereo's, camera's computers, . . you name it cost me a lot more money in the long run.

Did I need the MultiMax 32 channel Transceiver at this time? No! But I'm glad I bought it. It's amazing and flawless. Tons of options that I won't use now but, as our business grows, I can already see a need for some of these extra features.

The only complaint that I have is that it's a little weak on the shoe mount. You can crank it down as tight as you can and it still wiggles a little on the camera body. (Canon 5D) But that's it. I love this product and you will to.

Here's two things you should know. You have to buy two wizards two trigger the flash units but not two MultiMax's. Just get the Plus II as your second one. Also, the jack that comes with your Pocket Wizard probably won't fit into the back of your strobe. I had to go to an electronics store and buy one for $5.00. Not a big deal. You will have a male end that goes on top of the wizard and another male end that plugs into the back of the strobe. So, you need two male ends on one cord. The cord you receive does not have it set up that way. Look now at your strobes and plan accordingly.

I highly recommend the Pocket Wizard.

I have been a user of these for a couple of years havingmoved from the Quantum 4i. I also have experience using the4 channel version, and will likely put a review there as well.I am a pro wedding shooter doing 40-50 weddings every yearso work equipment hard. The strengths are that you can control several lights byputting them into four banks. So if a light is behind yoursubject it is easy to turn off the offending light. Thereare ways to work around this but this is not a photo tutorial. They have a huge range compared to their competitors, however I do not need the range. Sports shooters will likelylove this but the range is not necessary in a ballroomAs a heavy user I have found problems and these will be inthe next section.

Expertise: Globe trotting professional wedding photographer

Problems Encountered: While heavily featured (I gave it 5 stars for this) thereare some glaring problems. Of the 10 units my friends and Iuse, TWO (20%) have had problems and malfunctioned withinthe first year. My Quantums have never missed a beat hereother than a loose cable which was easy to solder back (onthe quantum)They use EXPENSIVE proprietary connectors. There is NO PCsync style terminal on the unit, instead you have to usetheir proprietary pin system. This pin system pokes out andeventually wear and tear can make this a faulty connection.I tape wires and plugs on at an angle now so as to make afirm connection. The Quantums have a PC sync. These unitsshould come with this very common terminal. Therefore Ibelieve the unit is poorly designed. Remember I have shotabout 100 weddings with these so I qualify to diss the unit.Frankly, for 90% of my shooting the MUCH cheaper quantumsare the way to do. IF these units had a built in THREADED PC terminal like myQuantum set I would be very happy with them...however asthey do not I will not be buying these again. The Quantums are a better deal. I hope someone from pocketwizard reads this and redesigns them. Lastly, the Quantums are shaped better...these are bulky.Unless you buy a very expensive mount (I have yet to findthe perfect one and money is NO object in my line) it isvery easy to knock the buttons.

You can set each of your lights to go off when you want them to just by pressing a letter. Set up your lights in several locations, press a single letter, put it in receive mode and move on to the next.
      A must for every photographer!

Comments about PocketWizard MultiMax 32 Channel Transceiver Radio Slave:

I purchased two of these Transeivers to use shooting sports and other events. I haven't used them much yet. The system does what it is supposed to by setting up one to transmit with one camera and the other to receive with the other. Firing the transmit sends a signal to the receive which fires the other.
You need a cable matched to the camera you are using to reveive the signal. This is another expense which does not appear in the manuel, so overall the setup cost me about $670.00. In addition I bought a Gorillapod for an additional $100.00.
All in all this gets expensive, so you should think it is worth it and will get considerable use of it.
        Product support was fairly good.

Even though I have some Flex TT5s, I needed one of these. I have experienced some times with the TT5s where the lights don't fire. This thing is rock solid. I also use it for triggering strobes in stadiums. In situations where I have 2 cameras, I use this on one, and a Flex TT5 on the other. Using 2 Flex TT5s doesn't work, since they interfere with each other in close proximity.

Comments about PocketWizard MultiMax 32 Channel Transceiver Radio Slave:

I use several of these for cave photography. Would also be great for outdoor night photography such as buildings and canyons.

I have tested them going around multiple corners to the point where I can't even see the light from the triggered flash, but a friend who can see the flash assures me that the flash is actually going off. But this is only in the long-range mode (which limits flash sync to 1/125, which I find acceptable). In the normal range mode, I was only able to go around 1 corner and about 100 feet distance.

I like the feature that allows you to enable/disable individual flashes to try different lighting configurations without having to run around turning the flashes on and off. It would be nice to adjust power settings remotely, but I don't have dedicated flashes so I did not buy the model with that capability.

Although this is a great slave, I find there are several annoyances that I hope the manufacturer fixes in a future hardware or firmware release:
              - Buttons are very easy to bump by accident. This frequently results in the channel being changed with the result that the slave mysteriously stops working till you figure out that this has happened.
              - The control lock function goes away when the power is turned off. I'm trying to train myself to re-lock the dang things every time I turn them on.
              - The control lock function does not lock the TEST button, so it is easy to accidentally trigger the flashes even with the controls supposedly locked.
              - Some of the controls are not intuitive. I find I have to refer to the user's manual to set up advanced features. And even some basic functions are unintuitive (you press and hold the back-light button for several seconds to lock the controls -- that's really obvious, right?).

Don't forget to buy the appropriate cable for your specific flash! That adds an extra expense to an already pricy product. It sure would be nice if these came with either a standard PC connector and/or a hot shoe built in so that the cables that we all already own for our flashes would work without having to buy a special cable.

Also, the connectors that they use as their standard connection don't stay in very well -- wiggle them a few times and they come right out. If they were going to choose something other than a PC connector, they should have chosen a connector that was more solid.

In summary, although not a perfect product, this is probably the best slave out there for maximizing the working distance between camera and flashes.

I bought the MultiMax for use on my camera and a FlexTT5 on the flash. I probably would have been okay with a MiniTT1. I thought it would be nice to have more controls, but they're pretty complicated and I realistically probably will have no need to use most of them.

The Pocket Wizard radio slaves are the best wireless units for remotely firing your strobes or camera. I have 4 multimax's and 8 plus II's and use these all the time. We will have up to six camera stations going at once and with the ability to select a number of different channels to keep everyone on a unique frequency is imperative. The work without ever an issue. My only gripe would be that you need to be careful of your camera when these are on the hotshoe as it is easy to kick these off and break the hotshoe attachment, otherwise these work perfect.

These work flawlessly every time. I can't imagine photography without having these units. One of the top 5 items I believe are a must for serious photographers. What I like is that my Norman mono lights have built in Pocket Wizard so my set up is clean and easy. I need a few of these around because when I use a grid on the soft boxes the light sensor on the lights doesn't always trigger so I need these to trigger hair lights.

I use this product for remote camera or strobe light. I have not used my very own yet but I have borrowed from someone else before and I love it!

I use it for interior shots ,Product, fashion and event. Make sure to read the manual first you don't want to do it on set. So many function and it's easy to get lost in the menus I use this as commander on the camera with 4 PW II and its perfect for what I do.

I use this in conjunction with Standard Plus II Tranceivers. If I am only triggering a few lights, i use the multimax for the extra functionality of the quad triggering. If I need more units, I mix them with the Plus II's until I get all of my units replaced with multimax units. Absolutely love them. the only downside is once you use one of these sets, you'll be addicted and start replacing all of your triggers with multimax units.

A good product, its operation and performance are good, the antenna is feeling a little fragile, but I think it falls off, the only thing is that the cost is a bit high for each unit and if they were at the best price or combos, sure I bought more, but worth buying this equipment.
