Still my standard film, developed in PMK, used for spectacular (if I say so myself) 16x20 prints. While a faster film (ISO 400) would be more convenient for field work, the gradation of FP4 is superior: more even contrast, from shadows right through separated whites in clouds. Faster films, to my eye, tend to "cluster" low to middle values around zone IV, which means that value dominates the print.

I purchased this film to use in a 4x5 pinhole camera. I usually use Kodak Tmax 100 but I wanted to give Ilford a try and FP4+ had good reviews. I found the reciprocity with this film to be far less forgiving than Tmax. My images came out very dark. I was able to lighten them in PS but the negatives aren't contact printable, which was my intention. I've recently tried HP5+ and really like it. FP4+ just didn't work for me and maybe isn't the best choice for pinhole but it's probably great for other applications.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 4x5" 25 Sheets Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

Tested my old favorite Ilford FP4 Plus to see if anything changed in the past few years since I last shot film. Processed the 4x5 in Kodak XTOL full strength for 7.5 minutes at 70 F using ISO 64 for the exposure on a cloudy day. The purpose of the test was to compare large format film to digital 37MP full frame exposures with a Nikon D800E. I scanned the processed film into Photoshop using an Epson 4990 Perfection Photo scanner at 3200dpi resolution. Results: Yes, the film is superb for range and detail, but not so much of an advantage that it would get my preference over the digital file. The differences are noticeable between the two modalities, but the digital is a match for film and large format. I will continue to mix the two, however, using the Ilford, since it gives me excellent detail and range, and I am familiar with FP4 Plus after three decades of use.

This is now my go-to film for portraits. In both 120 and 4x5, FP4 is wonderful for my style of BW portraits, giving great contrast to skin tones.

This is one of the best. I've been able to make some great shots using this film. The tonal range is about perfect, and the grain is virtually non-existant.

Perfect for landscapes, the contrast range is spot on!

I used this film for a large format camera for my college photography class. Didn't have any issues with the film and my pictures turned out great. So far I've only taken pictures during the day, but the quality of my images was fantastic.

I've been using Ilford film since the day I ran out of film while in England in the early 70's It has always provided me with even tonal ranges, and explicit blacks and white. Provides great large prints with little grain, or none.

Love using the Ilford FP4. I'm able to get great detail with the 125, and the emulsions are quite accurate. I only wish that they made a more detailed reciprocity chart that went over 30sec.

Most of my problems were the result of user error as this semester was my first time using 4x5 format. What I don't like is the lack of grain, but that's a personal preference. The film itself it's very reliable and it's reasonably priced which makes it great for students.

I use this film to shoot in the landscape. It handles wide exposure latitudes nicely. Really looks good developed in Rodinal.

Beautiful Long Tonal range with excellent modulation of values! FP-4 produces wonderful negatives with D-76 1:1 under normal conditions or for situations requiring a boost in contrast and nice compacted values with Ilford Perceptol (EI 50).
