I have the Quadra RX kit, and though the lights are nice n light weight, they're not built to hold the larger 190 cm light bank or other large light modifiers. But, this head is sturdy enough to do so. I'm now using it with the Quadra and I feel much more at ease, more confident that the shoot will go well with no equipment failures. Works great! With the quadra, you'll need to purchase a cable adapter. Reliable is the key....

I bought this head off of a friend who mostly used the head with just the reflector and/or beauty dishes.. When it was time for me to use my 5 foot octa, the tilt bracket would just continually slip so the octa was pointed downwards.. I tightened the bracket so tight that that the knobby on the other side of the tilt handle popped off. Also, ditto on this thing holding my 6 foot parabolic umbrella. it's got the same problem and that metal umbrella mount seems like its going to snap. If you're only using small mods this head is great, I figured an $ head would do the job, but I was wrong.. I'm now selling the kit, biting the bullet and going with Profoto as I've never had a problem with a 5 foot octa on those heads..

Comments about Elinchrom Ranger Free Lite A Flash Head:

I can't complain about the performance of the light itself. However, the build quality is junk. Really disappointed in the strength of this thing. Produces great light, but it's not even strong enough to hold any decent size modifiers. It's constantly slipping, causing the light to point downward. And when you try to tighten it, you feel like it's going to break. I bought speed rings for my Chimera/Westcott octas/softboxes and the tightening arm doesn't even fit around it. I am constantly have to move the speedring and force the arm past it. Only a matter of time until it breaks. For $xxx this is a real disappointment.

Comments about Elinchrom Ranger Free Lite A Flash Head:

I use this product outdoors, mostly snowie conditions and it works all the time. DOn't smash the bulb and it will work forever.

The only part i find not so great it the plastic swivel on the side to adjst the tilt. That always breaks on me. And it's a little heavy.

Comments about Elinchrom Ranger Free Lite A Flash Head:

If you bought the Ranger RX kit, this flash head is a must-have to work as the second light. I would also buy the Elinchrom extension cord, because the cable on the flash head is not very long.

Love this unit though, it has lots of power and a very reliable output.

Comments about Elinchrom Ranger Free Lite A Flash Head:

The cable measures out to roughly 11 ft 8 in vs the represented length. This can be problematic depending on spread between two heads and use of stands. Extension cable is over $200. Keep this in mind.

I use this product on location and in the studio as a professional photographer. The quality of light this flash head provides is beautiful. The flash head is light and easy to use. The only thing I don't like about the flash head is how exposed the light bulb is. I wish it was more protected. But if you're just a little bit more careful, this makes a great flash head!
