I've owned Manfrotto products for years and have been very happy with them. I recently decided to upgrade my current, smaller, lighter, carbon fiber tripod with something a little more sturdy. I discovered my moon shots, no matter how I shot them, were not crisp and sharp. They were ok.... but ok wasn't getting it. Using Canon's new 50MP 5DS and a 300mm f.28 should have produced some spectacular images. Using the tripod and a wireless remote to fire the camera and locking the mirror up still didn't do it, so I have to surmize the culprit was the tripod. Turns out is was. Now I grant you, the 475B is a beast. It is heavy. It is cumbersome. It is metal. It has no strap and requires two-hands to operate the crank. BUT... it's as rock-solid as a tripod and be, and, although I still use the smaller one for fairly routine stuff, when I want rock solid images from a distance, this is the tripod for the job.

The product looks sturdy and well made. However it did not come with an adapter that wouls allow cameras with different bases to attach to it. I purchased this product to hold a Gigapan system and I have to get an adapter to hold it. What a pain.

this is a bit cumbersome for a 5'4" person of small frame, but worth it to have rock-solid steadiness. I composite and do long exposures, so if you need your rig to withstand some wind and accidental nudges, this is it. All the parts ensure fine-tune adjustments

Comments about Manfrotto 475B Pro Geared Tripod with Geared Column:

I work in a TV station, and amazingly, this tripod is heavier than the commercial production team's Manfrottos. It's truly a beast, but steady as a rock, and I have little trouble hauling it around using my fluid head handle to carry it. It does clank when you're extending the legs, so not recommended for stealth bird-watching set-ups, but for video purposes it's right on the money. Has the look and feel of something that will last a long time. Only nit to pick is the center column crank handle. You have to two-hand the release while you unfold the handle, and there's lots of spring-loaded resistance. This could have been better designed. Not a big deal. Love the unit, and would definitely recommend to other reasonably strong shooters. Weight could put off some smaller of stature.

      Fantastic Video Tripod

      By Budman49

      from New Smyrna Beach, Fl

Comments about Manfrotto 475B Pro Geared Tripod with Geared Column:

This tripod is very stable and of excellent build. The cross braces add to the stability. The quick release plate allows for front to rear adjustment. The gear crank column is smooth and makes elevation changes quick and easy. The only thing I don't like is the weight. I prefer carbon fiber but the cost is nearly double; none the less this is a great tripod.

      Beast of a Tripod

      By Budman49

from New a Smyrna Beach, Fl

Comments about Manfrotto 475B Pro Geared Tripod with Geared Column:

This is a big, stable tripod. I would have preferred carbon fiber for the weight but the cost was not justified. The tripod is fully adjustable and the cross braces add good stability. I'll tote it when I have to, but only for short distances. The crank works great and makes height adjustment a no brainer. Great video tripod.

Comments about Manfrotto 475B Pro Geared Tripod with Geared Column:

This tripod is a monster !
Very solid adjustable, round tubular legs.
The center column adjusts very smoothly with no slop in the gears, and locks in place.
Everything that is adjustable has a lock to secure it in position.
I put an Oben BB-2 head on it and now I have a great combination for taking long exposures. I don't worry about camera shake anymore like I do with my lightweight tripod.
The combination weighs 10 pounds so I wouldn't want to carry it too far without the carry case with a should strap.

Comments about Manfrotto 475B Pro Geared Tripod with Geared Column:

I am a professional photographer that specialized in child portraits. I need a heavy duty tripod that has some versatility to it to use in my everyday adventure with active preschoolers.
I love the fact that it has a turning device to raise/lower the camera without having to move and resize the legs. This is a function I need when changing from preschool subject to adult staff subject. The tripod is much heavier than my old device. I knew this when purchasing this tripod but felt mentioning so others will be aware that they are not buying a lightweight easy to move around item. If you need a tripod to take on adventure with you, this is not your item but if you are using it for portraits or anything where it will remain stationary, this is the real deal.
It's a price pricy, more than I typically would like to spend, but Manfrotto makes a high quality device and if it lasts as long as one I had similar to this, it will be worth it.

Comments about Manfrotto 475B Pro Geared Tripod with Geared Column:

I needed some tripod legs that would extend tall enough for me to get above the audience heads without me using the pedestal extended. These legs are perfect for that and if I were to use the pedestal it's really sturdy so wouldn't get much vibration and is really tall. I'm 6' Tall and this is a perfect size for me. With the legs in medium spread and the pedestal down it's about 72" tall max height and with the pedestal up it's about 82" tall max height. The construction is built sturdy and adjustments are easy! It's not the lightest tripod but very durable and steady. I paired this with the Manfrotto 502HD head and the Manfrotto MAMBAG120PN padded bag and while I didn't want to spend this much and wish it could have been less cost, I'm really happy with the quality of everything and feel it was worth the money I spent!

I use these legs with the 502 video head for shooting still and video with a 5D MkII. The only minor gripe with that set up is the lack of ability to quickly level the camera when changing locations, but it's very minor.

These legs are extremely stable and I don't find them too heavy to move around in my orchard photo/video work. I wouldn't want to backpack with them though. They are infinately adjustable and can be locked solidly into any postition including well over my 5' 10" height. The center column remains stabile when raised, even to it's maximum which is ideal in our windy conditions.

They just don't get better than these legs for bedrock stability.

I've had one of these for about 5 years so when I needed to add a 2nd tripod there was no doubt what I was going to get. Great Tripod. Great for video work. A little heavy, but that's okay.

I've tried those light weight tripods and don't like them. I've owned a 475B for 5 years and liked it until the levers that tighten the legs began to crack - essentially - destoying their ability to do the job. No problem - I ran the tripod over to a camera repair shop to find out that the replacement parts are no longer available. They have changed the design, hopefully it will be better. Like a succor I bought the new one because I like the other 95% of the tripod and didn't have time to spend hours shopping for something that might be better. It's not light, but if you are not a wimp you can handle it. I've spent hours with my camera on the tripod slung over my shoulder hiking through the woods of Idaho and Utah. It's done a great job for me.
