I use this lens to replace my 18-55mm kit lens. It has great low light ability on a Nikon D3200. This 28-75mm f/2.8 delivers excellent images at ISO 1600 and 3200. Not even my 35mm f/1.8G can do that. It even auto focuses well in low light. At f/2.8 I get great Bokeh at 75mm zoom. Also, the image quality is tops, super sharp, good contrast, great color reproduction and not much lens flare. It can also focus very close at 13" even at 75mm zoom.

Not so great are: no VR/VC to stabilize the lens at 50 to 75mm with slow shutter speeds. On a DX camera the 50 to 75mm zoom is like a 75 to 112mm zoom. Thus, this is not really a lens designed for video or hand holding at long ranges at slow shutter. Also, it lacks a wide angle range when used on a DX camera.

Although a (FX) lens, this is a very high performance lens for a DX camera. IMO it outperforms any DX lens at high ISO, and image quality. This lens's strange zoom range is like a portrait zoom for a (DX) camera. And would be a normal zoom for a (FX) camera. It's not a all in one lens, and not a video lens.

When I first purchased this lens, I absolutely loved it, using it on my Fuji S2 and S3 Pro cameras. Focus was relatively fast and accurate and sharpness was acceptable. Then I purchased a full-frame camera (D700). Edge to Edge sharpness is absolutely TERRIBLE on this camera. Center charpness is excellent. On a full length portrait at F8 in the studio, the center of the portrait (mid waist height) is very sharp, eyes and face, blurred and unprintable for anything over 8x10.

Put the lens on my APS-C sensor cameras and it does fine again. Bokeh is nice, the price is right...just can't use it on my D700.

I particularly liked how fast this lens is. W/ a fixed speed across it's focal length, it makes for easier decisions on the fly.

Comments about Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for Nikon SLR:

I love my fast primes but sometimes they just aren't versatile enough. I use this as my go to all around lens when I can't lug around bunch of lenses. Fast enough for indoor use at parties or family events where I can quickly grab the camera for candid shots. Very happy with the quality of the lens, the picture and a good price.

This lens I purchased for portraits and weddings as I seem to be offered plenty of this work. I am a solid enthusiast getting close to full time pro level. As money can influence many choices in this field I feel this is a really good sensible purchase. It's pretty easy to drop big dollars on a lens in this category and I will say this lens is worth a look. Some may say it's heavy but it should be, it's built well. Focus is fast and sharp. Low light levels seem to bring out the best of this lens. I do recommend this lens be in everyones bag.

Comments about Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for Nikon SLR:

I bought this lens with hope to avoid heavy spending on the Nikon 24-70mm lens. Got the lens as promised fast and safe. I wanted to try the lens and tried to photography my baby.
Outcomes: colors are very nice with good contrast. The problem I had was with the focus and the zoom ring. First, and the reason I returned the lens, the focus point was off by about an inch to from target. I tried to photograph the face of the baby and instead the face was blurry but the ear or baby's sleeper was sharp. I conducted a number of test and the results were the same, unpredictable focus point.
In addition, I found that the focus ring was difficult to turn and felt too tight. As a result, I returned the lens and went for the "grail" (Nikon 24-70). Will follow with comparison.

I bought this lens a couple years ago and haven't use it much but while browsing the 24-70 ranges, decided to shoot a few with my 23-75 Tamron. After this experiment, I expect to do a lot more with this lens as a walk-around on my D700.

The focus is fast, even in low light. The build quality and size also seem just right. Its also good for close up photography, got some great flower shots.

I needed a new lens to go on my D810. I use this to compliment my 70-200mm. Eventually I'll buy a Nikon but for the time being this is OK. Not a bad lens for the price. I love the lock to eliminate crawl.

Comments about Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for Nikon SLR:

A few shoots for myself and others made me realize that I would really like to have a constant aperture standard zoom for my Nikon. Then I started shopping for lenses in this range... Eesh. Did I mention that I have kids and a mortgage? I noticed an anomaly. The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. At a fraction of the others this must be a typo, made of styrofoam or something. After obsessively poring over the specs and comparing them to the others, and watching and reading countless reviews I came to the following conclusions:Cons (kinda)Point: It does not have IS like it's newer (and $ more expensive!) 24-70 sibling.Counterpoint 1: Neither does the (almost $ more expensive!) Nikon.Counterpoint 2: At a constant f2.8 up to 75mm this should not be a large concern.Point: It is not as sharp at the corners as the competition.Counterpoint: Tragic, but I shall wipe the tears from my eyes with the $ to $ bills still in my pocket and soldier on.Point: 3rd Party.Counterpoint: Non issue if it plays nice.Point: At 28mm not as wide as the others at 24mm.Counterpoint: Your results may vary, but this was not a significant issue at the wide end. See below.Point: It does not have IS like it's... Wait. I already said that.Pros- It costs $ to $ less than it's closest competition! Apologies for harping on that, but for a hobbyist with multiple college tuitions closing in and no spare buckets of cash laying around this is very important.-It is very sharp at the center.Minimum focus distance is surprisingly close even at 75mm. Would not have been as surprising had I noticed the all uppercase 'MACRO' emblazoned across the side of the lens before yesterday. Can't get anything past me.-It is quite compact (3.62" L as compared to 4.6" and 5.2" for the other Tamron and Nikon respectively) and light (508g as compared to 825g and 900g for the other Tamron and Nikon respectively). Better to fit in my bag and avoid fatigue.-Good build quality, with nicely sized zoom and focus rings.-Unlike my existing Nikon lenses it is a Nikon F mount. Great considering the inevitability of a DX to FX upgrade in my future.-75mm as opposed to 70mm is an agreeable trade off for the 28mm con listed above.-Teamed with the recently acquired Neewer TTL flash (at $55 a fraction of the factory option), I have been using mostly with the 18-55mm kit lens and very happy with, it should make for a very versatile indoor and outdoor combo.-More stuff, but I do not want to type any more bullets...Decision made for me.Enough rambling.I have not done any dedicated shooting with it yet, but I added some sample shots that have convinced me that this was a good decision.-ELW

I was in NYC the other day and walked the High Line with camera in hand. (D3200) The images were clean and crisp. The colors are vivid. The autofocus is quite responsive and behaves as expected.

The only draw back is the absence of image stabilization, but I knew that at the time of purchase. A tripod is the obvious cure for this "deficiency".

If you aren't looking to break the bank and get the Nikon with the same specs, this is the lens for you. Nice, soft focus with wide aperture. Good Bokeh when shooting at the longer focal lengths. Works well in low light. Motor helps cut down autofocus time.

I use this lens primarily for portraits. It's easy to use, pretty fast and produces great results with certain settings. Unfortunately, I've found this lens only to be sharp from f/4 and higher. I really wish I would have invested more and gotten the lens with image stabilization or vibration control.

I'm an amateur photographer who was looking to upgrade my lenses. I don't have a ton of cash, so this lens was pretty attractive in that sense. I was impressed with how quiet the focus is even though it's not a "whisper drive". To the point that I sometimes depress the focus again just to make sure it's engaging. It produces some incredibly sharp images for its price point. I haven't really used it enough at this point to find any major flaws, but when I do, I'll be sure to update. I think it supposedly doubles as a macro, but you can't really focus THAT close to your subject. It does a fair job of it though. It's definitely worth the money if your looking to upgrade your kit lens.

Comments about Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for Nikon SLR:

Bought this lens for outdoor scenics and portraiture work with my Nikon 610. Very sharp, quick focusing lens. Good thing there is a lock to prevent the lens from creeping when carrying pointed down.

Comments about Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for Nikon SLR:

I use the SP AF28-75mm on a DX body D3200. I all ready have a Wide Angle 10-24 zoom for all my close range large view photos. However, there are times when I need more speed and longer reach. So this 28-75mm zoom fits perfect. I use this for object, animal, and portrait type photos. Even some closed up land/cityscape photos. On a DX, this lens' zoom range is 42mm to 112mm. THE GOOD:If you plan to upgrade to a Full Frame (FX), this lens will fit, but there are some issues (I'll discuss in the bad). The DX body uses the sweet spot of the lens' center. Thus no vignette, and no issues at the extreme edges of the images which are common for most DX lenses of this price range and higher.Fast, f2.8 through the zoom range to 75mm. This is great to have in low light. And will get great Bokeh from 50mm to 75mm. Excellent Bokeh when the background is way back.Bigger glass: allows more light in and thus allows you to use a higher ISO for less noise. I have used this lens at 1600 and even 3200 ISO with great results. On DX lenses, I could not go past 800 ISO without some grain problems and huge image quality loss.Image Quality, is what this does best. It produces the sharpest and most contrasting color images I have processed in View NX2. Normally I would need to bump up sharpness to 5 or 6 on most lenses. On this lens, I push it to 4. I ran some tests vs a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 non VC. And this 28-75mm beat it in IQ, Bokeh, AF speed, ISO performance, and distance image quality. And, for the first time, I actually need to reduce contrast on some images.Feels heavy and solid, the focus turns well, and the zoom adjustment is firm. Lens hood fits very snug. Also, 13.5 inch minimum focus even at 75mm. You can get real close and macro with it.THE BAD: If you upgrade to a FX and use this lens. It will have issues of vignette on the 28mm range at f2.8. And the image quality around the extreme edges will be soft (So the reviews state). On a light DX body like the D3200 the lens feels heavy, and not balanced. The auto focus motor is somewhat loud, but not annoying. If you shoot video you would need a external mic to avoid the noise. This lens lacks a wide angle range for DX, but it is wide on a full sensor camera. It also lacks VR or VC. Thus, trying to hand hold it for video will be almost impossible at 50mm to 75mm. At real slow shutter speeds, this lens is difficult to steady at the 50mm to 75mm range.Overall, It is the sharpest and fastest lens I have. And it allows my D3200 to get all the dynamic range it can process. I will say, if you use a DX camera this one great lens to have, even without the wide angle and VR/VC. Note, this is no walk around everything in one lens, nor is it a video lens. For a DX camera this is a portrait type of zoom lens that covers a lot of portrait range. And this lens has been around a long time (since 2003), and not discussed much in the mainstream media of advertisers.
