I can't say enough good things about it. Optical qual/IQ is fantastic. Images are sharp, and I've heard complaints about CAs but I tooks some pictures with the sun shining thru some trees without any noticable fringing. Anything beyond 2 ft might as well be inifinity, so it's very easy to use this lens. I only have flare issues when the light is shining across the lens sideways, otherwise it is VERY well controlled (magical Nikon coatings?).

Physically the lens seems well made, tho the hood is plastic (i think on the 16mm it's metal). It is very compact and light weight (anybody complaining about weight has probably only ever used a 18-55mm kit lens).

You can use this lens to exagerate proportions/distortion, you can use it to accentuate/isolate objects, you can use it if you have ultra-short working distances to your subject, and you can use it in a manner that somewhat masks the distortion (which is what I tried to do in the attached images).

I considered the Tokina for its zoom capability, but it wasn't as "fast" and supposedly had a little more CA (despite also using a low-dispersion element). The Tokina has a mad following for underwater use, so if you're going diving, probably consider that one first for availability of focus rings and domes. Neither have AF-S/SWM.

The outer element seems to be magnet for dust. I just keep my Rocket blower with me and I'm all set.

I used to make a manual panaromic with my camera and now with this fish eye, i now can make it a real wide angle magic and really can now use it to my optimum requirement of 180 degree. I use a software to make the edges straight and i am sure this is an wonderful toy, i ever had it before.

The lens is excellent fo photographing scenes that have natural curves in them already. For example subway stations in Washington, DC, and any domes.
        Landscape shots also work well.
The autofocus is fast, picture quality good. Haven't found a downside yet

My wife got this lens for me for Christmas. It was on my BH wish list, but I never expected in would await me under the tree. I have only used it a couple of times, but it is an awesome addition to my collection. Not only is it a great "special effects" lens, but it's a great wide angle lens for landscapes. The nice part about this lens is that it is small, yet powerful, and it's easy to use and have fun with. If you're looking for that extra special lens to help you stand out, this is the one. You won't regret it!

No other manufacturer makes a fish-eye lens of this quality for a APS-C (Nikon DX) sensor camera. Beautiful, frame-filling wide angle photos Fast (f2.8). Nikon Capture knows the lens characteristics and can straighten out the photo for a 180 degree wide-angle picture. Get one, you won't be sorry.

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

I have been eye a fish-eye for the past year and I have finally decided to settle for a DX fisheye from Nikon.

I shoot as a hobby and is considering switching to a full frame sensor, but why did I get a DX lens? The reason why I chose a DX lens is because, new FX cameras have DX mode which easily allows you to switch to and from. A FX version of the fish-eye would be too wide for my D90 so a DX was perfect for me. I did not want to skim out on 15mm DX fisheye because why settle when it is a specialty lens?

The lens has some weight to it compared to my 35mm 1.8; it definitely feels more sturdy for sure. The build is better as well. With the 5 year warranty on the lens, you can't beat that.

Buy it from B&H and buy the lens if you are on the fence!!!

I will be buy from B&H, it was quick shipping and awesome customer service. Love it and coming back.

This lens is not for the casual snap shooter or the photographically weak of heart. But if you want to make some outstanding full-frame fisheye images this lens will do the job very well. It is a relatively small, compact lens that can be set to show sharpness from about 9" to infinity. Set it to manual focus at the hyperfocal distance and click away. Lots of fun.If you don't quite like the radically curving fisheye effect using Nikon Capture NX2 or DxO Optics Pro can instantly straighten things out for you.Just be very careful of that front element. Do not take a single step without replacing the front lens cap. There are no protective front filters available for a fisheye lens.

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

Wanted to buy long time ago and something was always in the way. Finally got Fisheye and have fun with it; regret for so many lost "Kodak moments" over the years. Very light, compact, easy to use and opens the whole new world....

This is a great lens. I am using it for 360 tours as well as video.
I love how it grabs the whole 180 degrees in one shot.
It is also great with upclose photos

This fisheye lens is a lot of fun! I have used it to take landscape pictures and fun pictures of family and animals. The pictures produced have great detail and a super wide field of view. I highly recommend this lens.

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

This lens gives you a really wide angle. You have to deal with the curvature that is inherent in this type of lens but hey that is what a fisheye does. Try holding the lens at arms length and taking a picture of you and your friend. It gives you a really neat shot that is in full focus. It is great for interiors. Photoshop will take the objectionable curvature out of most shots--lens correction or transformation tools. There is even a provision to put gels in a holder at the back of the lens. You have to cut the gels to size--Nikon provides a template. B & H sells packs of gels. Cut a CTO orange gel for rich skin tones. The lens is very small so it's easy to carry around. A negative is that it has a learning curve--but isn't this what photography is all about. Here is a tip: Some other reviewers complain about the soft plastic lens cover. The cover I can live with by using a lens leash that B & H sells Improvise by getting rid of the plastic disc with the double side tape to attach to the lens that falls off the lens after a few months. Cut the string off the disc. Drill or punch a .06" diameter hole in the cap. Put the hole at the edge of the cap so the cap is out ot the way when you remove it from the lens. Tie a double knot in the spring on the inside of the cap so it is locked to the cap and you're good to go. The elastic on the leash fits over the barrel of the lens and holds the cover securely. If the lens cover needs to be removed it's easy and you can put the elastic around your wrist so you won't lose it. I do this with all my lenses and it is cheap protection. This also keeps the lenses clean.
