I use this with my Nikon D700 and flash mounted on it. The friction knob is turned such that the red indicator is about at the half way point. Now in order to maintain the grip, especially when the camera is set an an angle you must adjust the allen wrench screw that sits near the red friction indicator. It will help maintain camera position without adding any more friction. If not, get the head serviced. Hope this helps anyone here who mentioned losing grip after some use.

Now I love this head, it still serves me very very well. However I bought it over a year ago and I guess back then (and when they first came out) they had a production problem. I am missing a few screws here and there, thats ok, but the head loosens itself over time. All of you should be on the look out for this. No matter how tight you wind the friction gauge it will get looser and looser to the point that eventually just the act of putting a body with a 2.8 lens on it will immediately cause the head to droop forward or to whatever side.

Now at the beginning I said I still use this head and am very pleased with it, that is because I took the head completely apart, found the problem (with the spring we believe) and put it all back together, now the head is extremely rigid until the handle is pulled.

I just wanted to put this review out there for those that might be experiencing this same problem, find a mechanically inclined friend and go to work on the head, maybe you'll be able to save it. Best of luck.

Great unit with one minor flaw

Comments about Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head:

Love this device! The level is spot on. The only thing I wish it did that my pan head did is rotate 360 at its base. With this unit you have to use the grip to release and rotate. Other than that I like it.

Comments about Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head:

Before getting this grip action mount, I'd been using a regular ballhead mount for my camera, taking still shots and videos of birds. The ballhead was hard to adjust and lock down. The Manfrotto grip action mount works much faster, and stays very close to the position I let it go at, unlike the earlier ballhead, which would always drift. Now I spend more time getting video that I want, and less time trying to readjust the mount. If you do a lot of panning in video, however, I would recommend a regular pan-head to this. It's not as smooth as a pan-head. I usually set it and leave it; it works fine for that.

Comments about Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head:

Over time, the head will loosen, forcing you to set the tension to the max. This makes the head difficult to adjust, but still does not prevent slipping after releasing the level. The head is very heavy and has a limited range of motion. You are much better served with a traditional ball head.

Comments about Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head:

This grip action bullhead has expected Manfrotto build quality. Parts work smoothly and with precision. I use with both Nikon D7100 and D750. Have not used with a lens larger than 70-200 mm but I think this ball head would handle a heavier camera/lens combo just fine. The tension adjustment wheel on the handle is very useful.

My family uses this head with the Manfrotto MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod. It's a good match. My children primarily use our tripod set up for making stop motion movies. This requires frequent camera adjustments. The ball head grip is perfect for making quick minor adjustments to the camera position.

Comments about Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head:

I use this Grip Action Ball Head on my MT190XPro3 aluminum tripod. I like how I can turn the camera so easily and when I release the handle it holds the position for my shot. I really like the fact that it has a safety lock on the bracket that attaches to the bottom of the camera. It also shows which direction the lens should be by several arrows on the bottom of the bracket. It holds my camera without any problems. I really like the whole setup. So glad I got these two pieces added to my NOW HAVE list. I feel they will be with me for many years to come.Bottom Line. The head is heavy but does it's job quite well. I didn't want a flimsy piece of equipment. Both the tripod and Ball Head are very strong and will hold a heavier camera and lens.I don't believe you can go wrong buying these two pieces of equipment.

This is excellent for medium weight camera/lens combos in any position or heavier setups in horizontal position ONLY. my D800 + 70-124 combo would not stay in desired position; sliding down slowly. Grip needs to be much tighter.

bought this head about 2.5 years ago. Loved it the 1st year; then noticed blur in long exposures when camera was at a slight tilt; now there is not stability at all. Too bad because I loved the operation, but it won't last.

I've used the handles. I've used the balls. Now I've got a grip on it. The Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head is a blessing for tripod users.

Love it! can put your camera in any direction, locks pretty quick and holds that position. I hated the old head I had where I had to turn the lock until my camera locks in place, always losing few degrees in different directions. Now it's pretty much point, lock, and shoot.
