I bought this lens to use for my new Pentax K-30,
Really happy with the performance and glad to say that this is good lens with the price,
Very good to take photos in the day light and not bad at all in the night as well, though struggle a little bit while focusing in the night but that is a common problem of almost the zoom lenses.
The build up structure is very nice indeed and match very well with rugged look of Pentax K-30,

I really appreciate B&H fast/rapid service. I have been buying stuff online from them almost a 2 years and don't have any problem with the delivery.

I was hoping i could use this lens to replace my kit 18-55, but i don't think so. I'll start with what i didn't like:
As other people have mentioned the focusing at low light isn't very good, borderline frustrating. I took it to a late evening party and probably spent more time focusing than snapping pictures. It also has much more noise focusing than the kit lens. In daylight, it works much better. I have noticed it also has trouble focusing on macro shots.
At the extreme's of the lenses focal length, there is a slight vignetting, but not bad. I can live with it. However, attaching a filter imposed darkening of pictures at once again the extreme focal lengths. Trying to stack filters made matters much worse resulting in unacceptable shots. 1 filter at a time for this lens. My 18-55 lens could take 2 with much less interference. However, I can live with it.
What I like:
The focal length is nice. Having the option of 18-200mm for any shot is very convenient. Having such a broad zoom I could zoom past some of the flaws mentioned earlier.
Size. The lens isn't that big, slightly longer and heavier than the kit lens i have, but not by much, especially considering how much more lens it is.
Zoom lock. Nice feature, but i didn't have any trouble with lens creep, not yet anyway. Perhaps when I use the lens a bit more it will wear in and this feature i'll learn to appreciate it more.
The zoom is quick, which is nice when covering such a broad focal length.

If i had a chance to do it over, and I had more money, i would probably try a lens with less zoom, ex:18-125, and another lens, 70-250,300...but that's quite a bit more money, and when you're on a budget, like I am, this lens will do.

Good if you have in-body stabilization

By Gasanche

from Boston

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Pentax Digital SLR:

This is an incredible lens. I was worried about getting sharp shots at the longer focal lengths, but I haven't been disappointed in the slightest. Especially considering the price. It's extremely useful for vacation or just walk-around shooting. Wide angle landscapes to wildlife and macro, this lens does everything fairly well. If you're looking for a beginner lens that will keep you from having to change out lenses often, this is the one for you.
Caution, it doesn't have image stabilization so if you don't have it in your body, you have to be more careful or consider the tamron 18-270.

I bought this lens because I was tired of missing shots while switching from an 18-55 kit lens and a longer 70-300, and it definitely works well - I haven't taken it off since. About a week after I got it my camera strap came apart, dropping it and the lens 3 feet onto concrete but the lens still works fine. It can be a little louder while focusing than most cameras, but works fine in manual mode during speeches and other events like that.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Pentax Digital SLR:

I was looking for a good outdoor and conference-covering zoom to replace my 18-55 and 50-200 Pentax combo. I don't usually need to rack out beyond 135 mm so the alternative was the 18-135 Pentax WR to mate with a new K3. But weather resistance was not the major consideration -- In the rain I usually use a prime lens -- and the Tamron has a 6-year guarantee. This Tamron was not much more than half the price of the 18-270 model, and lighter.

Weight is not usually an issue for me, and this combo, with a lens about 1 lb and the camera about 2, is easy enough for me to handle. But there is a limit. I've now been using it a month and I'm happy. There's a zoom lock to prevent zoom creep (a complaint with some Tamron lenses), but I usually keep my hand on the zoom ring anyway.

At half the price of the 18-270 Tamron and with a 6-year warranty, this lens caught my eye. It is compact for its reach, and feels comfortable on my Pentax K3. In operation it focuses a bit slowly in low light, fine in daylight. Optical quality seems fine. I normally shoot raw+jpg for my magazine and for family... Fairly static targets.

This lens is probably the best value on the market in terms of price and utility. The only times I change lenses is for low light theater or sports (70-200mm f 2.8) and extreme macro shooting.(100mm F2.8 macro) The lens balances nicely on my K-50 and has a range which covers most of my shooting needs. It is a bit soft at the long end, but overall I am satisfied with this lens.

Of course, there are better lenses out there. But, for $ you are getting a VERY good value. At the long tele end the sharpness gets a little soft, unless you can shoot with f.11 or higher.I'm using it on a K-30 for portraits and family photo. In the mid-range sharpness is excellent; you can count the hairs on the model's head. This lens likes a lot of light, though. In low light you'll have to nudge it with patience to get it to focus. All in all, I'm happy with it and I don't wrinkle my nose over the plastic barrel.

The light weight and large focal range makes this a good lens for family outings. I used it hiking and it was great. It has a little problem in low light (under tree cover when cloudy). The autofocus seemed to hunt a bit more than my lenses with a smaller range in darker (thought not night time) conditions. I went to manual focus and it worked fine.

I've used this with my Pentax K-x for a couple years and very happy with it's flexibility. It doesn't compare with prime lenses or the short zooms but for the price and 95% of the users, it is all the lens you will need for the consumer to pro-sumer level shooters. A definite upgrade to the box lenses 18-55 and 55-200 rolled into one. You will grab it and go knowing it has you covered. If you are on a budget, don't hesitate to get it. If the sky is the limit with your budget and $ + lenses are your norm, maybe pass on this one.

sample images on my Pentax K5 and K7 were very nice and sharp close focus at least that is that my eyes can see.
focus was better than i thought it would be.

Nice affordable zoom from Tamron for my Pentax K-x. I purchased it as an all-purpose vacation lens and it did a wonderful job. Lens creep is a problem when camera is pointed down however and without a lens lock It was persistent and I felt uncomfortable carrying the camera over my shoulder by the strap due to concern for damaging the lens in its fully extended position caused by the creep. An inexpensive holster bag solves the problem adequately enough. A lens lock would be nice but for the money I'm satisfied overall with the quality and performance of the lens.
