I take stock photos (mostly food and tabletop) as well as portrait photos with a 60D and this is a really solid lens with a huge zoom range. I've used the canon version of this lens and the image quailty in my opinion is on par but it is not as fast on the autofocus and not great in low-light (not that the canon is great in low light either). Also, I would note that the motor on this lens is a bit louder than a typical lens when focusing so keep that in mind if you need to be totally silent in your shooting.

Also - you have to appreciate the warranty tamron provides for their lenses - best in the industry.

I picked this up to be able to carry a single lens on a recent trip through Europe. It served that function as well or better than you might imagine a lens at this price point would be able to do.

Pluses: Wide zoom range; Light weight; Moderately sturdy construction; Ergonomic controls; Nice bokeh.

Minuses: Slow, sometimes inaccurate focus; Soft images.

I found the lens performed best shooting outdoors between f8 - f16, though a few f22 landscape shots came out very nice. Low light was a challenge for the lens to find focus, resulting in some stuttering of the motor. High ISOs came out much worse than my mid-range prime lenses - lots of digital noise.

C/A is not horrible, and because I shot RAW, I was able to tame it in Photoshop.

Images are a little soft, but I've had the same experience with very expensive zoom lenses, so that minus is not unique to this one.

I'd say my main complaint is the overall lack of sharpness and the somewhat random focus. Having said that, FOR THE PRICE, this lens performs admirably.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Asph. (IF) Macro Lens for Canon Digital EOS:

Ok, so I bought a new camera and since I stayed with Canon I was just going to use the lenses I already have. That's what I get! When I tried my new camera, my 24-80 mm lens went out. So I needed a new all around lens. This lens is perfect. I am just getting into this but I like the lens. It's focus is good, it's smooth and seems to be a perfect all around lens. For the price, seems great. It even came with a cool hood. I'll be trying it a bit more over the next few weeks and will update if anything comes up but so far it seems to do it's job and I would recommend it as an everyday lens.

Like most purchased as a "walking around lens" the lens to this point has devlivered beyond expectation for the price.

Offers a nice step up from the classic 18-55 kits lens and provides great flexibility from a day to day perspective.

It does have some limitations but these were well understood going in and has not been a surprise. I've gotten what I set out to get and am very pleased in the overall performance, flexibility and price point for this lens.

I specifically purchased this lens for a cruise to Alaska. I only wanted to carry one lens to keep the weight to a minimum. I am happy to say the lens worked fantastic on the trip, great photos of wildlife and the scenery. The only reservation I have is the lens is a little heavy for carrying long distance, other than that I am happy with the product for the price.

I have to admit, the lens produced extremely blurry photos. B&H has told me to send it back in that the lens might be defective. I will do just that, but should I receive the same results, I will request a refund.

Be advised, this is the only issue that I have encountered since dealing with B&H. For the most part the B2B relationship has been great.

Photography can be very expensive, I had picked this up four years ago when I purchased my Canon Rebel XS. I've never been one for the kit lens even when I was doing film photography.I'm a little late doing a review since I had upgraded to a Canon 50D and using a Sigma 17-70mm.But I will be using this lens to cover an event and since I won't be getting a prime lens (Canon EF 17-55mm f/2.8 or Canon EF 85mm f/1.8)not for a few weeks. It is a little heavy and does have lens creep but also has lens lock, which you will thank. It's slow to focus in dim light but for action and zoom it's very good. Macro not so good but there are better lenses for Macro photography, I've tried but it has problems locking in and will search and search for the subject. It's durable, I've dropped it from the kneeling position with the lens hood and UV filter on and no damage whatsoever to the lens or functioning.

I was very impressed with this lens when it arrived, its looks and functions were more than I expected. I purchased this lens to give to my Step-Daughter who has two small children that she loves taking pictures of! She only had an 18-50mm lens and she wanted something that she could use to get a little longer distant picture with but not give up the close-ups, this lens work perfect for her. She is excited about her new lens and is planning a camping trip with the family out in the wilds. I will try to add some pictures of her trip to this review as soon as possible. Bottom line is that I was happy with this lens and she was overjoyed with. Yes I would recommend this lens, its great product at a good price!

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Asph. (IF) Macro Lens for Canon Digital EOS:

A great lens for medium to short range photo work. The lens is efficient, compact and useful in a variety of ways including zoo photography, an area of work I enjoy. The service by B&H was great. This is the third Tamron lens I have purchased and find that Tamron provides a higher quality product lens at a much better price.

Not the most clear lens but for the price it is very good. I would recommend this product to others.

I bought this lens for my daughter because she is taking a photography class and so far she likes the lens. The photo that she has taken so far are really good.

I bought this 2 weeks ago, and I am enjoying it. Shoots great photos and videos. however the slow focus minuses a star.

Overall a great lens on a budget and for beginners.
