I purchased this lens for my new Sony SLT-A57 DSLR body, and it doesn't disappoint, it's a great all round lens for the money. I really like using it with the new feature of the A57 which doubles your zoom size, while keeping it high definition, unlike your standard digital zoom feature. It's pretty trick, I used it on the moon shot. You can't go wrong buying this lens.

With rebate this lens cost $. This alone is a good reason to buy,as I'm saving quite a bit off the 700 dollars I could have spent. I bought it to replace two kit lenses - a Sony 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. In the 18-55mm range, images look better than they do on the kit lens. In the 200 range, the tamron performs slightly worse than the kit lens (with regards to focus. However you can of course sharpen these areas in post)- but seeing as I use 200mm rarely, the trade off is worth not carrying and changing two lenses across Europe. One glaring issue is the long time it takes to auto focus. After timing it, auto focus on the tamron lens takes approximately twice as long as it does with the sony 18-55mm kit lens (about 1 Second for the tamron) I do not forsee this as being a deal breaker, as half the time I use manual focus anyway. Besides, fast auto focus is most useful for subjects like sports, for which you should be buying a different lens anyway.the feel of the lens barrel moving as you zoom feels a little cheaper than the Sony kit lenses, but as mentioned above, 18-55mm ranges do look better using the tamron. In conclusion, the setbacks of the tamron lens are minor compared to the money you save, and the space you save in your camera bag.

This lens is easy to use. I like that the lens can be locked so that it does not lee scope out when you are carrying it. Also has a nice range. Is good in decent light but not as good in low light situations.

I purchased this to replace my sony a57 lens kit and I'm really happy with it. It seems to be sharper and less noisy than the lens kit and it's not a lot bigger, maybe just a bit heavier. I'm very happy with the decision to buy this lens.It is my everyday lens now, the kit lens is collecting dust in a box.

I use this lens on my 2nd DSLR camera Sony SLT-A65 and so far it has been great. I needed a all in one carry around lens for this camera. It's easy to use and the images are just what I expected. So far, nothing negative to say about it. Time will tell.

I got this lens for my wife who is just starting out with more serious photography. It is a fair lens for a Sony Alpha 300 which is my old camera. The abilities of the camera and the lens are comparable and decent. I shoot with a Sony Alpha 77 and a Carl Zeiss lens so maybe you can tell from that my perspective of the Tamron lens. It is no way near as good as the Zeiss, but then again Zeiss and Leica are the two best lenses made. One of the nice features of the Tamron is that it's focusing ring has a further rotation than most lens these days which makes for easier manual focusing. For the price, this is a good beginner's lens. Don't expect it to be as sharp as a much more expensive lens.

No change to do long-term test (camera died), but the lens performed really well. It's sharp enough, it's light for its range, and it's compact in size. One drawback, AF is a bit slow, expected for a megazoom.

If you're looking for an all-in-1 lens, this is it.

I have use TAMRON 18-200 in the past wit my SONYa37 with no problems and getting ECELLENT pictures.

I decide upgrade my SONY a37 with the new SONY a77ii with a new TAMRRON 18 200.

The Manual Focus in the lens it isn't working properly, the body lens doesn't have a focus switch to activate manual or Automatic Focus, and if you use the camera Focus switch in the SONY a77ii body for Automatic or Manual focus it is differ from the older SONY a 37 or 58 and the camera doesn't release the autofocus system like the older models, so you can not manual focus with the TAMRON 18-200 or the SONY 18-250) You will need a Lens that has these switch. Autofocus it´s working perfectly, the only problem is the Manual Focus.

I get a SONY 18-135 and these lenses have the autofocus Switch (AF or MF) so you can activate or deactivate with no problems the Manual or Automatic Focus.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Sony & Minolta Digital SLR:

I have several great fixed focal length lenses for my Sony DSLR, which I use when doing "serious" photography shooting landscapes, cityscapes, etc. However, while doing more "casual" everyday shooting, which may not need the highest image quality, I was getting tired of switching lenses and decided to get a wide-range zoom lens. This 18-200 mm lens (equivalent of 28-300 mm for 35 mm cameras) by Tamron seemed to fit the bill. My initial impression is very positive. It has a great zoom coverage, relatively compact and not heavy, and inexpensive. Quality of images is very good.
The only flaw is that its auto focus is relatively slow, particularly in low light situations. Thus, this may not be the best lens for fast action photography. But I would happily recommend it for almost every other use.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Sony & Minolta Digital SLR:

I use it with a Sony a77ii as a side option, for situations I consider less important. It's a versatile and very easy to carry piece, very lighweight. It's not so clear tough, and at the full reach it's not so sharp, it requires a bit of technique to adjust the exact focus (in AF mode, I lost some pics; in manual, it took me a while to understand it, specially in low light situations). In good light conditions and precise photometry you can get excellent results! But I would not advise to go birding in sunset or sunrise hours.
As I'm not a professional, I guess it's a good gadget thinking of price and unpretentious photographing. There are more modern stuff from Tanrom, but they are a bit more expensive. It also seemed a little fragile as well.

This will make a fine gift for my sister, and at a great price!

I bought this lens anticipating that I'll give it to a relative who just bought a Sony alpha camera from me. I expect to suggest to her that it is a great all-around lens. After using it a bit myself, I'm convinced that it is exactly that. I can't see any material difference between the pictures I take with this lens as opposed to the Sony SAL 18250 I own. I've shot with both lenses on the same Sony A77 and there's no material difference in the photographic results.

This lens lacks a bit in build quality, having more plastic in it than my comparable Sony lens. That might diminish the useful life of the Tamron's lens mount, compared to the Sony with a metal mounting surface. But I expect that will be a marginal-to-minimal issue because my sister will probably never have to take this lens off her Sony A350 camera body.

Focusing was quick and accurate, though it could be different in low light. I live in a very sunny part of the lower 48 so not a concern for me, but sis lives in the northeast so . . . . I did get the Tamron to take a picture when it was out of focus though I've never been able to get my camera to do that with a Sony lens on it so the focusing thing seems to be different but not a big deal in my opinion. I didn't experience any zoom creep or focus creep.

In summary, a great, versatile, and very affordable lens.

Gives me the option of bringing one lens without sacrificing the clarity of pictures. I've found there is no distortion of pictures at any focal length. It was a steal for $[$].

I got this lens to have a lot of versatility without having to change lenses very often. The price was low enough that I didn't have to break the bank to have a lens that would serve a lot of purposes. I plan for this to be my general "walk-around" lens.

A number of others had complained about lens creep, but the lens does have a lock - so, though I haven't experienced that yet, I don't see how it could become a problem with that feature.
