I've been using this lens for a few weeks now and am impressed. This lens is very sharp and is reasonably fast. Image quality is great. Chromatic aberration is almost nonexistent with this lens even in very high contrast scenes (snowy mountain in direct sunlight contrasted by shade from large trees).
Autofocus is fast and accurate in most conditions with the exception of low light scenes - which I expected.
One thing I don't like is that the build quality feels inferior to my other primes (EF 85mm f/1.8 USM & EF 28mm f/1.8 USM).
However, it is a very compact, lightweight lens which makes it easy to carry.

I bought this lens because I wanted a lens for some occasional macro photos on some nature hikes. I was also considering the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM (as well as the L version).
This macro lens is perfect for me because I am not so interested in macro that I could justify getting the more expensive, bulkier lenses. I need to save the space in my camera bag for my other lenses that get used more.

If macro photography is your primary interest and can afford it, you are better off with the 100mm or 100mm L or the 180mm L Canon makes - all of which will allow more working distance and more diffused background blur.

If you only need macro sometimes and like to pack as little weight as possible, this lens is a great choice.

So I wanted a Macro Lens for my Canon 60D. The EF 100 Macro seemed like a good choice, but 160mm (considering the 1.6X crop factor) seemed too much. I was right (for my needs). The 60mm gives me good room to work AND surprisingly has a FANTASTIC bokeh for portraits. Beautifully shaped round highlights makes almost any portrait a masterpiece! The fast aperture gives you room to work with low ISO and adequate shutter speed. The downside of this great piece of glass is the slow autofocus (which one could expect given the greater range of focus).

Comments about Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens:

Though I am going to use this lens for some macro shots on surface or underwater, for now I am going prepare it for dive and travel purpose.

I had couple of test shot last weekend while diving in Monterey California with visibility near zero (okay may be 1-2 feet of viz. This lens worked very well. I would recommend this lens for underwater macro as well as topside macro work.

B & H once again shipped this to me very fast, all came in well packed package. Well done B & H and thanks understanding your customer's needs!

Sharp and Versatile Lens

Comments about Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens:

I purchased this lens to compliment my Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Lens as I wanted a lens to fill the gap below telephoto and my Sigma. The 60mm field of view equivalent on my Canon T5i (700D) is 96mm which is great for portraits and pets.

The macro setting was another reason to buy and frankly I'm loving its capability. For product shots to the creepy bugs and flowers it's awesome.

The images have been pretty sharp as well.

This isn't a great lens for video as the USM motor is kind of loud when focusing. I find the lens focus-hunts a bit in lower light. I'm giving it 5 stars though because of its versatility, low cost and sharp imagery.

Wanted a great macro and "medium" length lens to keep on my 7-D- mkII as a "walk around lens". This almost perfect. Wish that it did have stabilization, but absent that it's darn near perfect. As always, great sales staff at B & H.

Comments about Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens:

This lens was a bit rough to get used to at first. But the more I use it, the more I absolutely fall in love with this lens. It takes great macro shots, but you do have to stand fairly close to what you are taking a photo of in order to take the shot. This is perfect for weddings for the fine detail, water drops, and flowers but would not suggest this lens for those that are wanting to take photos of insects or hummingbirds at a distance.

Comments about Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens:

My wife shoots food photography, and uses this lens almost exclusively, paired with a Canon 7D Mark II. We borrowed this lens along with several other lenses for a couple of months before making this purchase, so we are pretty confident this is the best lens out there for her shooting style. (Which is indoor, handheld, natural lighting, up-close, macro food photography... nearly all of the pictures on her blog[@] were shot with this lens.) The AF is fast and quiet, and the pictures come out very sharp.I wish there were an L-series lens with about 100mm FF equivalent at a 1.6x crop factor, but this one is pretty close with full time manual focus and good optics.Highly recommended for similar purposes.

Comments about Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens:

As far as the research shows, this is the BEST macro lens for 1.6 crop cameras. Amazing focus, suprisingly sharp and clean photos even in low light with tripod and slider. I would recommend this over the L series for the Canon 7D Mark ii as it works better with it and is a FIVE STAR LENS. Already using it for product photography after 15 years of not shooting macro.

I was taking great pictures with this within 30 minutes of getting this lens earlier this week. If you have macro work to do and you have a Canon crop camera then don't think of anything but this lens. Love it already.

Every other lens felt like a bottleneck for detail coupled with my 7d, this one gets the job done with a reasonable price tag.
Fixed all my mfd hurtles, wish I bought it sooner.

I am a fine artist specializing in landscapes using encaustics and oils. I purchased the Canon EF-S 60MM f/2.8 Macro lens mainly to photograph my artwork and I'm very pleased with it so far. At the same time I also purchased the Canon EOS 70D camera to use with this lens and I'm very happy with both purchases. My artwork finally photographs accurately, true to color, lots of details and no parallax issues. My only issue is the learning curve I'm on with using all the features this camera and lens has to offer. But I'm up for the challenge!

Comments about Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens:

This lens is definitely worth the value. This macro lens is able to capture all the detail of eye, plant, or anything else photographers may want to capture up close. The lens does have a tendency of not focusing well with the auto focus but can fix it with Manual focus. Otherwise great lens!

I was given this lens as a Christmas gift and I absolutely love it. Every product I have purchased from B&H has been off the highest quality, and this lens is no different. This lens allows the photographer to have complete control over which details to capture and provides such a smooth interface for macro shooting. Details in my photos are crisp and the color captured in my photos is unbelievable. So far I have no complaints.

I use this lens for intimate flower photos, mostly indoors with the Canon 70D. I'm very pleased.

Comments about Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens:

I bought this lens for product photography because of its sharpness (see the DxO website for comparisons). For the money it is a very sharp lens. The fixed focal length requires a little more setup, but is a good length for studio items up to about 18".

Being a EF-S lens, it is also small, but then it won't work with full frame cameras. Works well with the D70.

I did find that the autofocus doesn't always do the job, but mostly (90% of the time) it can autofocus even with only the modeling lights in a studio. The focusing issue seems less related to the amount of light than the particular length to subject.

Build quality is good. Although I haven't done much macro or landscape photography with this lens, it seems fine for that.

Comments about Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens:

I use this lens when I do close up nature photography and it is just awesome. The pictures come out exactly like I picture them to be from a macro. The awesome part about this lens is that its not just a macro photography lens but can also be used as a portrait lens, so it is very versatile. It is quite a bit heavier than I had anticipated but that doesn't deter from how awesome it shoots. If you want a fairly low budget macro option for your Canon this lens is for you.
