As a Canon devotee for several decades, I have always wanted to use Canon lenses, feeling that they were the best tailored for Canon cameras. Since my latest camera ugrade, however, I've found difficulty with Canon lenses. The bottom line is that I can't afford "L" series lenses and find the quality of the ES lenses to be less than stellar. Consequently, a year or so ago, in the process of upgrading my glass, I tried the Sigma 10-20 mm wide angle zoom and love it. Next came a Sigma 70-400 zoom which produces sharp images at all focal lengths and, except for the weight, is a great subsitute for the Canon 70-200 I was using which produced less than sharp images and had severe dust problems.
My latest switch in lenses was to ditch the 28-135 lens that came with my 40-D and take up the Sigma 17-70 zoom for a "walk-around" lens. Again, it's a real stup up in quality at a much more reasonable price.
To make up for the loss in medium range zoom, I purchased the Sigma 1.4 converter. Paired with Sigma lenses, it is a joy to use. The loss of a stop of light is no big deal. Lenses retain their sharpness.
It does seem to slow down the autofocus a bit, but the optical stabilizaion doesn't seem to suffer.
I don't think that my kit is on par with a complete Canon "L" system, but going to Sigma has sharpened my pictures from the ES series lenses and, until I hit the lottery, my future purchases will be Sigma.

    Serious vignetting when attached to a 70-200 f/2.8 lens. I am shooting on a full-frame 5D.

I get better results shooting at f/2.8 @ 200mm without the converter and cropping in the image to a 280mm than I do with the converter and actually shooting at 280mm f/4.

The glass used in this converter is MUCH smaller in diameter than the Canon version of the same product. Think half-dollar size vs. quarter size. No wonder the Canon version costs so much more....it is simply just a superior product!!

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Canon:

Bought this to go along with the Sigma 120-300 2.8 Sport. Mounted on my Canon 1D IV, I have found it to be very fast focussing and I love the extra reach the 1.4x gives. I won't lie, it's not as fast as a Canon 300 2.8 v2 mounted straight onto a 1DX, but for most shooters this converter isn't going to slow you down much, and who doesn't love getting extra length out of a lens.

I use it for Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 lens and it works well.

However, I am curious if this works on Canon EF telephoto lenses. Anyone knows?

This converter is excellent with my Sigma 150-500 lens. I am still working with some of my manual setting. I have gotten several excellent images. I do have to mount on monopod for stability..

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Canon:

If you aspire to use this on Sigma's own APO 500mm f/4.5 EX SG HSM on a Canon body, then be prepared to focus manually. Neither the Sigma or the Canon Extender EF 1.4x III will give you AF, but what you lose in focussing speed, you pick up in image quality. I can't see any noticeable loss when using the Sigma converter, unlike its bigger 2x brother which I would give a wide berth. Excellent value for money, but be prepared to shoot retro style i.e. Manual :0)

I'm not sure if I've used it for it's best purposes but it does what it's suppose to do and that's get in closer without buying another lens. Just wish it was as sharp as using your lens itself! Not bad, but not over the top great!

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Canon:

This teleconverter worked perfectly for me with the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 and my Canon Rebel t3i. Autofocus worked just the way it was supposed to and my camera recorded all the correct metadata (e.g. The 120-300 at 300mm with the 1.4x teleconverter recorded properly as 420mm). I really like the combination of the lens and teleconverter because it is still pretty fast throughout the zoom range, at f/4. It's easy to attach and works great. That's about all I could ask for.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Canon:

I bought it for my wildlife photography and a second one for my wife and her birding photography. Fantastic purchase! Have not noticed the loss of an f stop and am amazed at the clarity of my prints using the extender. Mounting my lenses to the teleconverter took a little getting use to as you have to slightly extend any zoom lens you may use before connecting it to the teleconverter, but what photographs. On my 500mm lens it's like I'm standing next to the wildlife I photograph and still I remain 200 to 400 feet from them. GREAT, GREAT purchase!!

This performs exactly as advertised. I'm using it hand-held with Sigma 125-400 mm lens and it is working well with reduced f stop. Seems to be a quality piece of equipment and typical squarish Sigma case (wish they would go to a more convenient model).

I have the Canon 1.4II and this one is just about as good and will work with any Canon Lens since the front element is recessed. It reports the 'actual' working aperture and effective lens focal length. Just a tiny bit soft around the edges with my 70-300L but exceptional performance for the price. It even auto focuses at 300mm effective F8. I haven't tried it in very low light but 'normal' lighting seems nearly as fast as the lens alone.

I couldn't really notice any loss in picture quality until I zoomed right in, I'v not really had the opportunity to push it yet but so far with all my test shots I like it. I will be using this for wildlife and lunar photography.

This is a great teleconverter and a great price!! I will say this... Use Teleconverters with a good lens, at least f2.8 or better! Sigma does have a chart to look at too.

Works like a charm! No loss in image quality and no loss in focus speed.

For the price it can't be beat. I am not a professional by any means, so when it comes to new gear I'm always looking for quality without breaking the bank and Sigma has never let me down. It feels very durable and very well made. I like the extra reach it gives my 70-200, and the AF to me still seems fast. It doesn't seem to lose any sharpness, but I haven't really had it long enough to fully say either way. Only time will tell since I've only used it outside in direct sunlight so far. It was between this and the 2x but I didn't want to lose that many stops with the 2x so I opted for this one.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Canon:

My biggest worries before purchasing where slow focus and making the images softer. Upon testing I found that those issues largely didn't exist, images are only slightly softer before any editing, after applying sharpness to the RAW files the quality was nearly the same as using the lenses directly. I did find though that with backlit subjects this TC will add significant chromatic aberration where it was not apparent with the lenses natively. Build quality is on par with my L lens, if not just feeling a little bit sturdier.

As far as I remember, this construction is not as good as Japanese one but this is details. Optically, I think is not any difference.

Very happy to get this addon again to go with my 70-200mm f/2.4, making it -1IL but could catch birds and small animals with it without scaring them or get spotted.

As a professional sports photographer, I love the focal length of the Sigma 120-300 F2.8 lens. This 1.4 teleconverter is an excellent and complimenting option when using that lens.

Use it with my canon 7d and my sigma 70-200 2.8 lens. I have been very happy with it. Auto focus works 85% of the time, some times it searches. Used it for taking photos of baseball games.
