I had the 1.4 non DG model and contacted Sigma and they told me I needed the DG model. I was having focusing issues but after "cocking" the camera a bit it took right back off. Not sure if it's the Nikon d90 contacts or the 1.4 converter. I'm using it with the Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS lens. I just couldn't believe the difference the DG model made!! It was like "day and night", literly. I couldnt believe the amount of light the new DG model let in, I don't believe there was any drop off at all!!! The non-DG model was so dark it was terrible. Make sure you get the DG model, it is so so sweet.

I have not taken it off the Sigma lens since putting it on. The build like the previous one seems very good, strong and substantile.

I love the extra reach this thing gives me and at f4, it is so so sweet! Have been thinking about getting the 2x but the price right now after getting all this new equipment is making me wait for now.

The image quality is excellent, I'd rate it probably 9+ out of 10. It is really money well spent especially with a 2.8 lens. Just can't go wrong. I chose B&H due to their amazing return policy that allows you to buy with total confidence. Thank you B&H for your amazing shipping and service. I had it at my door in just two days. Don't wait, get it!!!

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF Lenses:

Autofocus is hit or miss. It focuses, then stops, and after turning the camera off then back on, it works for several pics and starts the entire process again. Disappointing.

        Sigma 1.4x

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF Lenses:

Some times the 2x is too much light loss. The 1.4 is the answer. As a birder using this combined with the Sigma 120-400 gets me close without sacrificing f-stops. The fit and finish is world class. I look for this being a manufacturing engineer. I am using this on a Nikon 5200. I loose AF but knew that before buying. This is not an issue because I am more comfortable in manual with distance shots. I recommend making the purchase.

Works Great. expect to take some time with your camera "autofocus fine-tuning" to get the best results, I suggest the slanted yard-stick around the distance you expect to shoot. Great results for birding with the 120-300 f 2.8 Used it with 500mm in manual focus.

The TC works superbly, with some noted softness in the photos. That was expected, the result however was less than I was planning to deal with. Overall, happy with the purchase. I can stop bugging a colleague for his 300mm and survive on my own... during daylight that is.
F/4, unless at a well-lit field/gym... is for the birds.

Another great buy from sigma. They have consistently delivered quality above the price tag. Minimal loss of sharpness with use on my 70-200 HSM OS lens. If your budget is not expendable, then sigma is a brand that you can afford continues to impress.

I bought this tele-converter to extend the length of my new Sigma 120-400. On my APS-C Nikon, that gives me a total focal length of 840mm.

So far I am pleased. I take mostly hand held nature photos and the shots appear to be very sharp when I use fast shutter speeds. The biggest drawback is that the lens is now manual focus only using the tele-converter. But, I knew that when I bought the converter.

Exposure works ok in auto, but autofocus struggles. I just use manual focus.

...the first generation APO HSM lens. I attached the extender with it and the chromatic aberration is obvious, esp between light highly contrast areas. I think it's my lens because the quality of image is much better after I removed the extender.

This is not a knock on the extender. Time to upgrade my Sigma lens I suppose.

I purchased this to expand the utility of my Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. While the sharpness does go a bit soft, the overall effect of increasing my lens to 100-280mm while decreasing the speed to only f/4.0 seems really useful.

I have been using this Teleconverter on a Sigma 150 macro and a Sigma 70-200 macro and it does a great job.

I shoot a lot of macro shoots and it works well on both lens. I also shoot a lot of wildlife and this Teleconverter does a nice job of helping me getting closer to the birds and animals.

I have nothing to say negative about this Teleconverter. I does what it was built to do, get you a little closer to your subjects.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF Lenses:

Build quality and sharpness (when focused manually) are good. However, I bought this for AUTOFOCUS on my Sigma 300mm APO EX HSM and it does NOT recognize the lens and does not autofocus nor set the Aperature. I've tried this on my D200 and D300s. It behaves differently but does NOT work on either body with that lens. My lens IS ON the compatibility list. It is SUPPOSED to work but it doesn't and without it the lens works excellent on both camera bodies.. Assuming that I had a bad copy I exchanged it for a new copy, the new one came today and super disappointed to say that this one does the same thing. It will NOT work correctly. On the first copy if I wiggled the lens/tc/camera I could occasionally get it to AF, but it was like 2% of the time. So far this copy is 0%.

I would have to say that this is why I like to buy new from B&H so I don't get stuck with a lemon. I Love B&H and how they stand behind what they sell. Sure wish I could get this to work, but nothing I've tried has worked. Prior to returning this copy I'm contacting Sigma for recommendations.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF Lenses:

I bought this converter to go with my Sigma 70 - 200 f/2.8. I wanted a longer focal length while still being hand-held. The results are excellent. The autofocus works well and the images are sharp. I then added it to my Sigma 150 - 500 lens. The autofocus was lost, but I expected that. With manual focus, I shot multiple images to try to "tune in" to the subject. At 700mm, results are, dare I say, "fuzzy'. But, with less than maximum focal length, some images were good (will still need some post-processing sharpening, but may make an acceptable 11 x 14). Bottom line...buy it for the 200 mm zoom.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF Lenses:

                      Puchased for lenses...Sigma 150 F2.8 OS and Sigma 50-500 OS/
Very pleased with the results on the Macro 150. Very sharp and AF works well, beautiful images of hummers in flight and feather detail is great. Macro is great, but I use manual focus. Will AF but DOF is juat too thin.
Results as expected with the BIGMOS....certainly very usuable and results are ok. Soft at 700mm and it should be, however I will use it for shots where the 500 isn't long enough.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF Lenses:

The Teleconverter is small light weight and doubles the usefulness of your lens. I am using this in conjunction with a Sigma 120-300 f2.8 and Nikon D7000. Results are very good, nice sharp images at F5.6 and still very good at F4. Have tried with my Nikkor 70-300 VR but results a bit soft, all functionality of the lens in maintained with both lenses. When using a heavy lens I would not recommend picking up by camera body as this will put a lot of strain on the converter, the 120-300 Sigma weighs(3kg) and would destroy this and your camera mount anyway, Holding by lens and body will see a longer life. All in all very happy with [...] purchase, be sure to check compatibility chart before purchasing .

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF Lenses:

                      I have a NIKON D90.
I purchased the 1.4 X DG APO Sigma Teleconverter together with the Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 APO OS LENS f/NIKN.
The problem is, that as soon as I add the teleconverter to the lens, the autofocus stops working.
                      is this normal?
