B&H customer support helped with all my questions about this product when purchasing it. They also offered support on how to set up and use the strobe. The strobe was easy to use with my Canon 40D right out of the box so no phone call was necessary. Using the strobe and soft box help eliminate all the hard shadows when taken pictures of my pets. Now I can use my 430EX as a fill-in flash. Strobe performs exactly the way I was hoping, and I will be looking into remote fire capabilities in the future.

I've had this set for about two years, and it's gotten occasional use -- meaning I used it maybe once a month, and each use saw 200-400 firings.

The light stand included is pretty good, the softbox is OK (hard to set up, and I could never get mine to seem *perfectly* put together). The flash itself was pretty great, it gave off great light and was very reliable. Wish it had a way to turn off the slave, but overall I was pretty happy with it.

Then I was shooting a friend's maternity photos last weekend, and the flash committed suicide. The bulb didn't blow -- in fact, I still have the original bulb. But something internally popped, very loudly, and the unit visibly put off quite a bit of smoke. And now when I shake it there's stuff rattling around inside, no doubt the shreds of whatever exploded inside. I'll probably dissect it out of curiosity, and who knows, maybe it's fixable.

Bargain at twice the price

By Jarsh

from Nashville

Comments about Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC):

I am an amateur photog and didn't expect much out of these. I already had what I thought was a basic kit now I realize my previus kits were toys. These are a bargain at twice the price when you consider what all they include! The lights are lightweight and plastic but fire quickly and often. The stands are heavy and seem to be made well. If you want a great product give these a try.

Comments about Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC):

These monolights are actually a bit more solidly manufactured than I thought they would be for the price. A few trial shots demonstrated to me that these units will do exactly as I expected. I haven't had the opportunity to field theses yet, but based on my tests, I think they will perform admirably. The softbox that came with the unit was actually easier to set up than I assumed it would be and produces a well-shaped light pattern. The real test will be time: how will they be doing a year or two from now. Stay tuned.

    Great purchase

    By Subaru Lou

Comments about Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC):

I wanted to upgrade our very basic flashes/slaves that did not have any adjustments and took several seconds to recharge. This monolight and soft box are great. 1/320 is as fast as I was able to use it but the adjustability is fantastic for still life and portraits. Easy set up and a protective cover for the strobe and modeling light make this set my new favorite piece of equipment. Recharge is almost instant and I was pleasantly surprised by how many incremental adjustments there are for output. Chord to camera is nice and long too. A bargain all around!

Comments about Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC):

Used this to shoot about 25 company headshots and it performed well. The boom stand and light however didn't provide much value - the arm didn't lock and hold when fully extended and a sandbag is definitely needed. I had to rig it in order to get 3-pt right.

Comments about Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC):

I am a landscape photographer. I was recently commissioned to do some executive head shots... but I did not have any lights. I typically volunteer with a professional commercial photographer to do head shots so I am used to using the best equipment in the business. This is most definitely not that level and is much more flimsy than his equipment. But for the price this product is amazing! Besides the 'weight' being much lighter than the next level equipment, the features are actually more than I had expected from a light kit of this price. I am a pleasantly surprised and happy customer!

what a great first mono strobe set up

      By bald_butcher

      from mn

Comments about Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC):

This was my first mono strobe. I was hesitant to jump in with all the more expensive lights out there, and was not sure what expect with this very affordable started set. Boy am I happy I took the plunge! There is really nothing bad to say about this! I even bought a second after I used this a couple times...and what a difference it made I'm my photos. If your thinking about trying monostrobe flash...this the product for you. Buy it!

Comments about Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC):

I don't do a lot of portrait work, so I didn't want to pay top dollar for monolights. But, I was surprised at how nice these lights are. They provide a nice soft light and adjusting the lighting levels is a snap.I'm using wireless sync adapters with them, but they worked well without them. The only negative I have is that the softbox is a little hard to assemble and mount.

I bought two sets of this kit for my product photo table. the price is good, and the quality is much better than what I thought before got the real product.
with a camera setup of f16, ISO100, I only need around 1/4 of the full output power. It cycles immediately after a shot.
The soft box and stand are also made of a quality better than what I expected.
In conclusion, this is a value product. It does not cost your arms and legs to setup a small studio. I am a happy customer.
The only problem I found so far is color temperature. It gives a bluish tint if white balance in a camera is set to flash. After correcting WB by using a CBL lens the color of all photos is no longer a problem.

Comments about Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC):

This is a basic studio-type light that is good for smaller subjects. I use two of these, triggered by the flash on my DSLR, for portraits.

Good features: reflector and softbox for flexibility in lighting style. Adjustable power for both flash and modeling light. Triggered by slave sensor or sync cord. Fast recharge with audible ready signal. Power and sync cords are useful length (ca. 12').

Limitations: construction is mostly plastic; it works fine, but durability might be a concern. Not very powerful; fine for individual or couples portraits, or smallish items; even for individuals I usually run it at full power.

Bottom line: economical, useful light for occasional use and smaller subjects. Great for learning studio lighting techniques.

Great strobe, I generally use it for portraits right now with my canon 6d and some radio triggers from another site for about 15 bucks. I just need to purchase the bag for it and battery packs for the pair.
