The first thing I noticed about this lens when I opened the box was that it's "Made in Japan." That's a good start. I've had 3rd-party lenses in the past and somehow where it's manufactured has always been a built-quality issue. Not with this lens.

To rate its performance, I cannot compare it to Canon's 15mm because that is a legacy lens. I can only compare it to Canon's EF 8-15mm f/4.0L Fisheye Lens which I've used before. But the only way to compare this Sigma lens to it is at the 15mm focusing range. Both showed considerable Chromatic Abberations esp. at the corners and softness wide open. Not surprising because of the way fisheye is made.

Of course, it wouldn't be fair to compare Sigma wide open at f/2.8 to Canon's wide open aperture at only f/4. But what impressed me most about the Sigma lens is that at f/4, sharpness is comparable, perhaps with a slight edge going to Canon. But at f/8, this Sigma lens will blow you away. Since I plan to shoot landscape with it, sharpness at this f/8 aperture or 1-2 stops after isn't a problem.

Center sharpness is good throughout the entire aperture range for this Sigma. I didn't have any issues with auto focusing and I thought it does a decent job even in less than favorable lighting conditions.

What I like most about this Sigma lens is that it's very light (332 g) and compact, making it easy to carry with my other gear on my trips. And lastly, it's a good price.

Lens is sharp stopped down a couple of stops, but edge and corners are definitely soft wide open. Unsuitable for night sky photography as star points on frame edges and corners are fuzzy, indicating coma; an expensive lesson to learn. Otherwise, build quality is excellent and lens is great for daylight photography.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I bought this lens for astrophotography. Haven't had a clear night yet so have only taken a few test shots in daylight. There's nothing more frustrating than pointing one's camera at a particular part of the night sky and seeing a meteor go streaking by in another part of the sky. Hopefully the coverage of this lens will help.I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 6D. I use mostly 'L" lenses but the difference between this lens and the Canon 8-15mm f2.8 L is +/- $[$]. I'm glad I made this choice. I've noticed No Vignetting and photos are sharp even at f2.8.The Sigma 15mm f2.8 is well built yet light to carry.

It doesn't distort too much, but gives your photos that little bit of edge that's curved. Love that it is not very heavy, compared to my old "wide-angled" lens and it's much more useful. Really looking forward to taking it on my next trip.

Pleased with the quality of this lens. I use it on a Canon 5DIII, and really like the look I get. Sharpness and color rendition are very good. I only backed off one star due to sometimes it is slow to focus or seems to hunt a little, but the type of photos you take with a lens like this that's usually not an issue. I also really like the way this lens renders a starburst when the sun in in the frame.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I've been shooting photos for the last 35+ years. I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III. I bought this lens for occasions when my 16-35 Canon lens isn't wide enough. The sigma lens is fast at f2.8 so it's great in low light. For those really close quarters shots, this is my go to lens. For those special effect photos this lens is also great. Photos with this leans are very sharp. AF is almost as fast as my Canon L series lenses but not as quiet. Be prepared to spend a few extra post production minutes to make good photos look fantastic. The only reason I gave this lens 4 stars is because of the sound it makes when autofocusing and no weather seal. I'd like the AF motor to sound as quiet as my L series lenses but keep in mind this lens is less than half of the Canon L fisheye. If you're looking for a fisheye, look no further.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

This is a small, lightweight lens with great image quality. I was just as satisfied with the results at f/2.8 as I was at f/16. It's a bit slow to focus and that slowness is made a bit more apparent by the noise of the focus motor, but focus speed is probably not critical in the more common uses for this lens.

Started shooting with it and noticed that the image wasn't sharp at the center focus point not to mention the rest of the image. Did a tripod test and compared it to my Canon 17-40mm f4L and the Sigma failed miserably. But I'll give it another go and ask for another copy and hope for the best.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I bought this lens for a few special purpose opportunities and find myself taking it with me everytime I take my camera out. It provides a unique look at the world, often that world being a place you can only see through the lens. It is excellent for turning what appears an average looking shot into something unique and often stunning. It is especially good indoors where the F2.8 can really open up opportunities. I recently visited my hometown and was walking around taking regular pics of what has changed when the manager of the theatre asked me if I'd like to take some pics inside. The building is well over 100 years old, and I grew up watching movies there. I had this lens with me and gave it its first opportunity. When I went in the lighting was poor so I cranked up the ISO on my 6D and ended up with some really cool shots of the unique, old, ornate interior. Ever since I've taken it everywhere. A balloon fest, street fair, inside old buildings, a car show; it's always in my bag. I haven't had a chance to do much close up work yet, but I am sure that is where I will really be pleased. The image quality is fantastic, but better atF4 than F2.8. If you are looking to do portraits this insn't your lens, but if you have a creative side and like to have fun with your photography, this lens is a great way to break tradition and get some unique shots.

I am a professional photographer full time 30yrs and bought this lens for a family wedding to play with and ended up using it for 70% of reception. It was great for the wild shots and gave a different view not normally seen with background lights of different color temp. Easy to work on a crowded dance floor. Used on my 5D mk3 had some barrel effect but make a rather dark party place look massive and bright. Very sharp for the price... I would do it again. auto focus was much faster than mine....

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I am a professional wedding and stock photographer (architecture and travel) and bought this lens to use with my Canon 5D Mark III. I used to have a Tokina 10-17mm Fisheye, but the Tokina is soft on the borders when used with a Full Frame camera (very soft). The Sigma 15mm is tack sharp in the center and very good on the borders. I read in the reviews when I was searching for a fisheye designed for full frame cameras that this Sigma 15mm has a slow autofocus. Well, I do not agree. The autofocus is fast enough for the kind of job I get (weddings and architecture). Maybe for sports, the autofocus will not be up to the challenge. The construction is very good except for the lens cap. Actually, the cap has two stages: a cylinder and the lid itself. The set is too loose and falls off easily. I strap them to the lens via a couple of rubber bands otherwise they can easily go off the lens in the camera bag. The imagens produced by this lens is top notch. Canon has a very expensive new fisheye lens (Canon 8-15mm F/2.8 Fisheye) and an old version (Canon 15mm F/2.8 Fisheye). The old version is sold for the same prince as a brand new Sigma 15mm F/2.8 fisheye and the new version is far too much expensive. I do not see any point in buying the canon's fisheye lenses. As I said before, the new Canon 8-15mm F/2.8 Fisheye lens is far too much expensive and the second one is only found used and selling for the price of a brand new Sigma! (nonsense)... The Sigma 15mm fisheye is a F/2.8 fixed aperture lens what is a big plus when photographing weddings in a very low light reception place. The sigma has also less chromatic aberration compared to the Tokina I used to have before...I recommend this lens.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I already use a Canon 17-40 mm lens on Canon 5d III but to go even wider, the Sigma 15 mm was needed. A well made solid lens. Noisy, slow focus but this is not an issue with how the lens is typically used. Images at f8 and f11 are very sharp. Yes lots of distortion but it is a 180 degree view lens on a full frame body. Amazing depth of field particularly at f16 and f22. The front of the lens rotates during focusing so you need to keep the hand away or you will cause major mischief with the focus motor. Useful for building interiors and for panoramas.

Half the price of the Canon L zoom equivalent.

I purchased this lens to use it specifically for skateboardng photos and video. The fisheye effect it provides is hard to reach with a different lens range. And it allows you to get really close to the subject, without having any part of the subject's body out from the composition.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

Purchased this lens due to price and great reviews on this board. First non-canon lens I've owned. Took it out this past Sunday afternoon to shoot some spring daffodils and lake scenes. Much to learn but I think this will be fun to use at ballgames and for athlete portraits. Very fast focus and quiet.
