The Epson v750-M does deliver good scans with regards to some mediums but its promises far outweigh what it can actually deliver. As stated in various reviews around the web the device is most certainly not capable of actual 6400dpi resolution, it's more like something between 2100 and 2400. I have tried this myself and scanning at 6400 will give you longer scan times and a larger file but won't help resolve more detail. If your main medium is 35mm and you want to make larger prints (over 8x12), I would look at a dedicated film scanner. Even a used Nikon or Minolta from 8 years ago should give you better results. On the positive side the device does capture a good range of tonality in B+W film and though I havent tried it yet, I believe the results scanning larger formats will be much better than 35mm. Scanning reflective documents gives good results with accurate color once the scanner is profiled.

The software that comes with the scanner, XRite's i1 Scanner and Silverfast are garbage. Profiling the scanner on Mac OSX with the supplied target produced a fine profile once the IT8 file was fixed (it was unreadable.) In order to fix the file you must copy the IT8 file's contents into a plain text editor and save the file. XRite produces some good hardware but their software is the pits. The version of Silverfast, while claiming to be a "professional" version does not allow one to use the scanner's profile (at least as far as I can see) without a $90 upgrade to the software. My recommendation to Epson is to instead include the professional version of Vuescan. If you're a user of the device purchase that instead of a Silverfast upgrade. The professional version of Vuescan costs the same as the upgrade, you receive software updates in perpetuity, and you can create profiles until you heart is content without the need of an addional piece of software (only an IT8 Target which you now have if you purchased the scanner.)

One additional note, if you do purchase this scanner for film make sure you try positioning the holders at different heights. There are tabs on the bottom that point to either + or 0. Changing the direction of the tabs changes the height of the holder (the only way to focus the scanner.) For me + delivered sharper scans. Other film holders, such as those made by better scanning have more options when changing the height of the holder. The Epson holders in comparison to those and others are a little tragic.

Despite these complaints, I would recommend the Epson v750 to people looking for a scanner if they were primarly scanning reflective documents and possibly larger film formats. There's also the fact that for the price, what you get is pretty good. Just don't expect 6400dpi or anything close.

I got this to scan 8x10 negs. The film holder only scans up to 6x9 inches if you want to wet scan. If you put a neg in the scanner un-wet mounted you get bad newton rings, which are impossible to retouch. I solved the problem by cutting a piece of window glass about 8 7/8 by 11 7/8 and I wet mount the neg upside down, using cardboard spacers to keep the neg off the bed of the scanner. It's crazy that a company which makes a "8x10 scanner" never tried to scan a 8x10 with it. It's like a lot of darkroom stuff, just not well thought out and kinda junky.

The scanner works great!! There could be better instructions about changing where the scans are stored after the initial settings have been set. I have had very good results from scannig 35mm slides, old photos, certificates and old letters.I purchased the scanner to recover several thousand 35mm slides, from work and family pictures, and old genealogy information. I purchased the scanner based on the recommendation from two of my brother in laws. Very good results from scanning over 500 slides and many paper documents.

Comments about Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner:

Just very quick. optical sensor IS 6400dpi capable to read, however wakest point is way, to which must picture travel from film to that sensor. In other words - weakest point is optical system, which significantly reduce reading capability of sensor and real optical resolution is around 2200+ dpi. It definitely won't satisfy professionals with high demands, perhaps if there is no another alternative for large formats over 120 films (6x6 and similar). Next capable scanner for large format is Hazzelblade and that quite expensive machinery. If large format is not required to scan, and you have 35/120 films exposed with very camera with very good lenses, much better option is Nikon Coolscan scanners series ED 8000 or 9000. Real optical resolution is around 4000dpi withouth compromises. However, if you have average films form cameras "point and shoot", this scanner is quite enough. Image quality is still far from a good film scanner, the scanning speed is painfully slow and the effective resolution of cca 2200+ dpi (6-7 megapixels for 35mm frame), even the files are extremely bloated up to 60 megapixels. SilverFast bundled software definitely upvalue this product, without it produce much, much worse results.

Be sure to look in the manual front cover, for a code to get a discounted upgrade to Silverfast 8 Ai Studio. I found the additional expert options and 48 bit modes of Silverfast Ai critical for the scanning of my old film negatives.

Comments about Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner:

The resolution of images produced by the scanner is impressive and will provide me with the capability to scan in my film library rather than pay $20 per scan to a local company. Epson Scan and SilverFast software are both a part of the package and the Epson Scan is more user friendly and intuitive. In my opinion, the SilverFast reproduces a much better scan but there is a lot of frustration in trying to understand the user part. I love the wet scan capability although given the dry quality I am seeing, I will likely use it infrequently.

Comments about Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner:

I use this product to wet mount scan medium format and large format negatives and really like it! The process is a little tedious but the results are great! If you use the included film holders, it makes scans fast and easy. Think about upgrading to a better version of Silverfast though. The version that is included is ok but if you are looking for serious scans, I'd say buy atleast the Ai studio V8. When compared to the Imacon X1, I found that wet scans are pretty similar but not as sharp as its 15k competitor so, keep that in mind! All around this is a great product and I highly recommend it.

UPS delivered 1 day earlier than B&H projection. Packaging, equipment, and software in excellent shape. Evaluations by cautious and thorough problem-solving reviewers helped me know what to expect. So far, limitations suggested by negative reviewers can be overcome by software, accessories, and technique. Upgraded/upgradable software and "expert techniques manual" might reduce the concerns over higher costs and limited capabilities for those that want to learn and and enhance results.

Comments about Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner:

I own a digital archiving and photo restoration business, so accurate scanning is a must. The problem is that very few scanners allow transparency scanning for anything over 3". This workhorse has an 8" x 10" light lid with fluid mounting capabilities, so I have just vastly increased my range of services. All this would be moot without scan quality, and the Epson Perfection V750 Pro has a two lens system that pulls information out of prints, slides and negatives that my previous scanners (a Xerox 6400 and an Epson Perfection V500) never picked up. If there were any drawbacks, it would be that the Silverfast software isn't as good as the Epson software. The Silverfast doesn't allow for very over/under exposed photos and has a tendency to crash when doing large batch scans

Got this scanner to digitize large quantities of 2.25 negatives and it's doing the job very well. The Silverfast software is excellent, as is the ICE tech for cleaning up the scans.

Comments about Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner:

The POTENTIAL for the Epson Perfection v750 is awesome. The start-up given the very poor documentation regarding the bundled Monaco calibration software and Silverfast scanning software is most frustrating. This bundled purchase desperately needs documentation referencing how to integrate the 3 tools (without upgrading for an additional $100 to $300 dollars.) I have since purchased an eBook for the Silverfast software and am hoping it will help. This is my 3rd Epson scanner. I use Photoshop CS5, Lightroom, Monitor calibration tools/software and and Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer ---- I did not expect startup on this v750 to be such a pain.

Comments about Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner:

I basically needed a negative scanner because I have thousands of film negatives that I wanted to scan and preserve. I looked on the internet and did searches strictly for negative scanners and apparently with everything today going digital there were not that many scanners to choose from--especially new scanners. I looked at the reviews on this particular scanner and I saw that some customers said it was slow. I didn't know how slow until I started using it. I will say it had an easy set up for my computer. I do have a new computer that uses Windows 8 and the install was easy. Yes I will be using this scanner for photos and other things however my main purpose is for scanning negatives. I will tell you I am NOT happy with the speed of scanning negatives. If you fill up the negative tray with 4 negative strips it takes 16 minutes to fully scan the negatives onto your computer. To see a preview scan it takes a full minute. I was told it may take less time If I wanted to scan at a lower resolution and not use all of the elements the scanner is capable of--digital ice--color correction etc. But in this day in age of advanced technology this scanner should scan faster in my opinion regardless of what resolution it is.In addition this scanner does come with a lot of trays that you can scan different format films on which is a great thing--however like some customers stated in the reviews the trays you put your media on are very cheaply made and for $[$].00 you want good quality. One other minor note--when you do scan pictures it makes a noise. Its not in tolerable however it is annoying the more you are scanning.
