We use this attenuator between our sound board and monitor speaker, as the levels from the board are considerably higher than needed. The attenuator allows us to have the monitor send level at a more reasonable point and avoid feedback if someone bumps the level too high.

In the long run we will use fixed attenuators in this role, as they are less prone to error. The variable nature of this attenuator is ideal for determining the optimal attenuation to use, but a fixed unit the avoids accidental change.

So we recommend this item as a good tool bag item for fixing situations on the fly, but recommend fixed-level attenuators for use in systems that are used on a regular basis.

I patch in my Alesis mixer to many different sound systems on the road. Many have microphone inputs with no adjustable gain or input pads. My mixer output distorts these inputs, so I needed a pad. The Hosa was the only one in stock, so I bought it. It does the job, but the switch that varies the level of pad is very cheap and moves too easily. I will have to tape it down so it is not switched accidentally during a show. That is why I give it 3 stars, for the cheapness of construction. But so far it has done an acceptable job.

Great with Zoom H4N

Comments about Hosa Technology ATT-448 In-Line Attenuator:

I bought this to use with my Zoom H4N, which takes only mic level inputs. Adding this attenuator, I can now step down any line level signal I get to the required mic level for a nice clean signal to my H4N.

I needed a way to drop a line level device to mic level. I checked on parts and the time to build an attenuator, and found this nicely put together for less than I could've built it. It's as advertised, and arrived promptly...love B&H!

At almost half the price of others, it works great. Levels have to be right to not have distortion and noise. The ATT-448 has three choices of attenuation. One of them is just right.

Our news photographers use these when they cover events like City Council meetings, where they get a feed from the meeting room PA system. Sometimes, the -40 dB position (the maximum attenuation) still leaves the level a bit hot, but tolerable.

Comments about Hosa Technology ATT-448 In-Line Attenuator:

I purchased this because my home-made subkick was too hot coming in on my focusrite preamp. The one that I received has a -20, -30, & -40db. other people have noted that the switch isn't tight enough, and I can see that, but it's not terrible. It does a very nice job of lower the signal from the speaker and allowing me to get useable audio.

I use these to reduce the gain on outputs from a soundboard to feed an H4N recorder. The attenuator switches function well. Although the items feel a bit light, the construction seems good. The fit is a little snug on the inputs to the H4N due to the thickness of the barrel at the connector - otherwise very pleased with my purchase for the relatively low cost.

              No more distorted sound

Comments about Hosa Technology ATT-448 In-Line Attenuator:

The signal from the mixer board in my church was too hot for my Sony UTX-P1 plug-in transmitter. (The signal was too hot for the mic level setting, causing constant peaking and distortion even with the highest level of attenuation in the UTX-P1, but the signal was too weak for the line level setting.)

The Hosa ATT-448 did the trick. Setting it at a 30 decibel attenuation provided just the right level of attenuation. Now my sound is very good and undistorted. This was just what I needed.

Two of these Hosa ATT-448 in-line attenuators will travel in my gear bag from now on.

The price is right, and they are made in Taiwan, which in my experience generally means a high level of quality.

Comments about Hosa Technology ATT-448 In-Line Attenuator:

I use these on the road for sports broadcasts because I often don't know what kind of feeds I will get from house systems for PA and field/ice mics. They are inexpensive solutions. You might want to handle them with a bit of care as other similar inline attenuators I've seen appear to be a bit more sturdy, but that's not a worry with my setup.

Comments about Hosa Technology ATT-448 In-Line Attenuator:

After using hand-made pads for most of my career, I decided to buy a couple of new pads. I couldn't be happier with these. I use two medium or short mic cables and put the pad in-between them. That way the pad lies on the floor and is not hanging out of the mic, mic-pre, or outlet. The switch is easily adjusted with just your finger, the pad works with phantom, and sounds great. I have two mics that are very high output, and these pads allow me to not have the preamp all the way down, which sometimes still wasn't low enough. 5 stars from me.

Using a pair of these to balance the line level from many different mixing consoles going to my digital recorder is what I purchased these units for. I have also found them useful for microphone applications when the console has no "input pad." I like the fact that these have attenuation switches, (20, 30, 40db), which makes them great for many applications.
