I ordered this because I wanted a cheap portable kit that would be easy to transport and use on short notice.

What I got was a great portable kit for a very reasonable price. The stands come with standard studs so they can be used to mount other items and actually go higher than 10 feet. They are also very sturdy and stable. The cross bar is in four 3 foot'ish long sections that take seconds to assemble. You can use 2, 3 or 4 sections to make a length that matches your backdrop accordingly. The holes at the ends of the cross bar are elongated more than enough to allow the height of each stand to be changed a considerable amount without binding the cross bar at the opposite stand. With my old system this was a huge issue. The included carrying bag is also very nice. Each of the stands and cross bar sections have their own pockets so nothing rubs together. A very nice feature for picky people like me that don't want things damaged during storage or transportation.

This little "cheap" kit will be replacing my current system.

I bought this background stand for an event I shot where I needed to use a muslin background. This kit is complete with everything you need to use it to support cloth or paper backgrounds (2 stands, expandable crossbar & even a nice bag to store it all in).

Upon setting it up I realized that is was definitely not designed as a heavy duty system. The stands are thin, although light in weight, metal. The top-most extension of the stands is so thin I wondered how it would be able to support the combined weight of the crossbar and the 10x20 muslin I was going to use. I had it set up for a total of five hours and when I took it down I discovered the top-most extensions had bent from the weight of the muslin. I then had trouble getting them to nest back inside the lower sections of the stands.

I would have returned the kit to B&H, but I was outside their 15-day window for returns. Had I to do it over again, I would have bought some quality heavy-duty light stands and the Bogen extension pole (#2983) which I suspect is a much stronger piece than the one in the Impact kit. I priced out the pieces I had in mind and two lights stands with the Bogen crossbar was only $60 more (albeit with no bag).

My mistake. Always buy the best and only cry once. A bargain isn't always a bargain, especially in the case of this kit. One positive note though, the bag that is supplied with the kit is a great design and holds all the pieces securely making it easy to transport to locations outside the studio.

Comments about Impact Background Support System - 12' Wide:

I use this product in a real estate office to hold up a green screen. Does the job very well. Sets up and packs away in the included case very easily. Can't beat the price and the mobility. I suggest using weight bags to stabilize if there are a lot of people around, otherwise its pretty stable on its own!

Comments about Impact Background Support System - 12' Wide:

I used this support for 12x20 vinyl background.

It was lucky that I could've found 12' wide support.
However, it's a bit it weak to hold heavy vinyl background.
It's 12' wide bar, then should've been more sturdy for 12' background.
Of course it wasn't collapsed, but wobbly even with indoor air moving.

Nice light carrying package is good though.

Comments about Impact Background Support System - 12' Wide:

I use this product for a home-based portrait studio. Good size range for any room. For greater flexibility I replaced the top bar with a Manfrotto system that clamps onto the support poles, provides sprockets for up to three roles of paper and enables raising and lowering the paper using an attached looped chain. The upper top bar will be retained for possible use for on-site photography. All in all a very nice set-up.

I bought this background support system because i needed
something quick and easy to set up. My first set up was done in less than 20 minutes, that included hanging my background. Ideal for taking photos with out a lot of set up time. The only draw back is you do need to put some weigh on the base of the support legs.

I love the stand. but a couple of the screws are not holding tight on the stand anymore. The stand collapsed a couple times during shoots. I transport, break it down, and set up with it a lot for parties. I going to try and see if I can maintenance it, because I rely on it alot

Comments about Impact Background Support System - 12' Wide:

I bought this because I wanted a means of bringing a portable studio with me to corporate events. The stands are very durable and they do a nice job. I have had some heavy rolls of back drop material suspended from it. The only concern is the risk of it falling. So we make sure the area is clear of any risk that could cause it to fall. The only thing I don't care for is how the top bar bends when fully expanded. There is nothing wrong with it, but the bar tends to arch downward when all the sections are put together. And I'm not sure there is any way to improve that. 12 feet is a long expansion. But honestly, the picture in the ad depicts a straight and level top bar. The reality is this bar appears warped when expanded out to its full length.

The support system is sturdy, easy and quick to assemble (especially if you have an assistant), and the case makes it easy to carry and store. I used it with a 10 x 20 white muslin to transform a 12 x 12 orange basement into a high key light environment, then threw a black sheet over it to transform it again.

Comments about Impact Background Support System - 12' Wide:

Good price but only for cloth backgrounds. Do not think it would support a roll of paper. Certainly not extended to the 9' or 12' length.
Otherwise, I am happy with the product as I do not use paper.

nice backdrop support stand for traveling photographers. Easy set up/take down. Flexible cross poles which you can use two, three or four for a total of a 10 foot drop. I would not recommend using the full extension for heavy backdrops like Muslins as the bar will sag but they will hold them nevertheless.

I don't mind this product that much, it gets the job done and holds well it you set it up right.

                      The two Major flaws:

                      1. The Screw in metal posts at the top that hold that bar are VERY poorly made. The one I got, one of them has a bad threading, and won't screw in straight or all the way, making it very susceptible to falling if knocked the wrong way.

                      2. The plastic knobs to tighten the lengths of the poles are VERY loose. You have to practically crank them in with a wrench to get them tight enough. I already had one end fall down during a set up for a shoot, smack me directly in the mouth and scratch my face, with the paper on it. Ouch!

I have yet to try and fiddle with the screws and bolts to fix it, but at this point in time, I would only recommend this IF you are really strapped for cash.

I have been using the product to hang my 6 foot canvas backdrop. For some reason, the backdrop stands arent very strong and seem to drop every so often. Other than that, it's pretty good, I just think the stand can't carry much weight.

Comments about Impact Background Support System - 12' Wide:

It's only rated for 20 lbs, which is nothing if you want to put up a roll of seamless paper that makes use of the width of this product. For example, the 140" wide seamless paper sold on this site is 50 yards in length and weighs 40 lbs. I tried, it definitely will not hold it. The poles started to bend and sway before it was even 1/2 way to its maximum height. Not a serious pro product.

Comments about Impact Background Support System - 12' Wide:

Using this background support for an 8'x10' white vinyl background. At 12' extension, crossbar sags a bit in the middle, so we opted to keep it at 9' instead for stability. A little wobbly, but we won't be moving it often. Easy to put together, but takes 2 people.
