This my third Billingham that I currently own. I have a Hadley Pro for basic use (one camera, two lenses) and a 335 for carrying a bit more. This latest 555 holds everything I own and will be used on occasions when I need absolutely everything with me. Granted it's heavy when fully loaded.

It's my fifth Billingham that I've owned over a lifetime. Once you use these bags it's hard to go back to anything else. Billingham and Domke are the only two brands that have served me well.

The bags are built to last a long, long time. In fact they look even better as they age. If you've never used a Billingham give it a try and just be sure to spend some time with it before you make up your mind. It takes a while to understand the Billingham philosophy and way of doing things. But in the end, there's really nothing that can beat them for their overall value and longevity.

This is a beautifully crafted bag with a very British look and feel to it with top quality materials and craftsmanship. However, it is one of the most impractical bags I've ever owned. I have much smaller bags that fit way more stuff. My first complain are the non-adjustable pre-fabricated compartments that have one square section that will fit small lenses without any problems, and a smaller, rectangular section that will fit a speed light. These fabric covered "boxes" have hook and loop fasteners that don't match up to anything inside the bag. They don't even match up to each other so you end up with 3 or 4 loose-fitting compartments. The square sections are way too small to accommodate larger diameter lenses so you have to really struggle to pull an 85 f1.4 or 35 f1.4 out of the bag. because of the tight fit, some of my lenses have developed scuff marks. All in all, I would say the design of these compartments is rather poor. The manufacturer's descriptions of these accessories is rather nebulous so it's hard to figure out what the myriad of compartments are. These is minimal padding around the outside of the bag so it seems like it might be easy to smash a camera body or accessory if one is not careful. This bag is super expensive and really not worth the extra money. I would definitely not recommend this bag.

Comments about 555 Shoulder Bag (Khaki with Tan Leather Trim and Brass Fittings):

The quality of the bag is wonderful and well thought out. I have a Billingham 307 that I love but it was not tall enough to easily close with my Sony 70-400 lens with LA-4 adapter. I will never fill the bag as it will be too heavy but now it is easy to get my equipment in and out as it is not crammed in. This is an investment and will last forever.

Comments about 555 Shoulder Bag (Khaki with Tan Leather Trim and Brass Fittings):

I first became acquainted with Billingham while shopping in Freeport, Maine in the early nineties. Since then I have acquired a medium format bag, and recently the larger 555 series. Each of the bags, despite its age, have held up well, maintain their shapes, quality of construction is excellent. I see no reason why the 555 series should be any different. In my opinion, the bags have easy access, and plenty of storage for any type of gear I need to transport. The quality of these bags has not been compromised over the years. If I need another bag in the future, without hesitation, it will be a Billingham product.

Comments about 555 Shoulder Bag (Black with Black Leather Trim and Nickel Fittings):

I bought this bag primarily to use as an airline carry on bag for my frequent international travel. With it I can carry my entire photography kit plus laptop safely when travelling. I suppose if you ever needed to carry your entire kit on a weekend road trip or to a field site you could also use this bag. But obviously it's too big to use for day walks.
The quality is superb. I chose the black colour because I didn't want it to stand out too much like a Billingham. For that, the black colour is a great choice.
My only issue is that it only ships with three internal dividers (8-15, 9-15 and 9-18) which isn't enough to fully utilise all the room inside the bag. You need to buy extra dividers as accessories for this, adding further to the cost. Some of these dividers don't appear to be in stock on B&H. I'm still trying to figure out which internal accessories I need to add...
Also the internal padding is adequate but I would still take care when handling a fully loaded bag.
Lastly, I have a Hadley Pro (Small) which has extremely soft padding. The padding inside this is the same thickness but not as soft as the Hadley Pro... I prefer the padding in the Hadley Pro.

Comments about 555 Shoulder Bag (Sage with Tan Leather and Brass Fittings):

Love the material, everything I'D HOPED IT WOULD BE. Not as big as I thought it would be which is perfect. seems very durable, spacious, and accommodating. I wanted a canvas bag that I could use for work to carry books and charts, etc. I love that it is a shoulder bag and has carrying handles, and that the inserts are removable when I don't need them. Fits my Macbook Pro and iPad and Canon 7D and 3-4 lens easily. And thats just inside, still have the 4 other exterior pockets for iPhone, and camera accessories. I can flip it on the weekends or for trips to carry my camera and gear. Absolutely a beautiful bag. Glad I chose this one after much, much research, so far it is what I wanted. Only been a few weeks, so we'll see how I feel about it 1 or 5 years from now, especially for the price, it better last longer.

I use the bag for casual photography - carrying one gripped body and a few lenses. So far, the bag is great and allows me to carry 3-4 lenses, body, and batteries and still leaves room for misc items (e.g. a book, iPad and other items I take on carry-on for flights). Great looking bag!

FILMMAKERS TAKE NOTE: I needed a large bag that I could carry on airlines. Something to hold 2 large DSLRs with Z-finders attached, and 6 or 7 lenses. Having looked at the Tamrac, Lowepro, etc. locally I just was not happy with the quality. I kept reading about Billingham bags, but the price tag was a little daunting. But finally I bit the bullet and purchased one. From the moment I took it out of the B&H box I knew I had made the right choice. It looks and feels like no other camera bag I've ever seen. The inserts are amazing in how many ways you can reposition things until they're to your liking. Everything about the bag is exceptionally well made. Really, it's not even on the same planet as other bags. You'll smile every time you look at it. It's the Rolls Royce of camera bags. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

This has to be the most attractive bag that I own. I was very impressed with the overall quality, and thrilled that I can safely tote 2 DSLR bodies, battery packs, flashes, filters, my computer, cords, and an array of lenses (4-6) - including my 50-500, which is a fairly sizable lens, any way you look at it. And, I still have room!

An added blessing - because of how I can distribute the weight in this bag, I can still carry it!!! (I'm a small-framed female, 40, 5'6", 112 lbs., and out of shape since I fell off the fitness mission...)

For me, this was an excellent purchase. Not only can I keep with me more than I need, there's room for extras, and I no longer struggle with the bulkiness and awkwardness that I have endured with my other bags that have comparable or less space.

Comments about 555 Shoulder Bag (Sage with Tan Leather and Brass Fittings):

I haven't owned my bag for very long. Certainly not as long as I wanted to have one, but kept postponing the purchase for one reason or another. This is in fact my second Billingham bag. My first is the Hadley Pro.

Both bags are great. Used to own a Domke F5 bag, but Bilingham Bags are superior in every way.

                                Pros:
                                - Great Looking Bag. I originaly wanted the Black one, but my daughter
suggested the Sage one. No regrets.
                                - Great workmanship, looks and finish.
                                - Large enough to carry 3 lenses (4 if you count the Nikon 300mm F2.8
VR I plan to carry on top), 2 F5 or D3 Bodies, one SB 800 or 900 Flash,
one Minolta light meter, and one Tascam DR100 Field Recorder.
                                - Plenty of other gear like Nikon's SD-8A power pack for the flash,
                                Cables, Batteries, Cheatsheets and more.

                                Cons :
                                - Very large Bag. As it can hold a lot, you have to resist the temptation to
put everything in it just because you can. It just gets very heavy.
                                - If you can put it down somewhere, it's fine. But if you have to carry it
                                everywhere, it gets very heavy.

Comments about 555 Shoulder Bag (Sage with Tan Leather and Brass Fittings):

I travel a lot shooting annual reports and I have to admit that I have never been satisfied with any of the 12 or so camera cases I've purchased. I've had backpacks, roll-ons, large and small shoulder bags, fanny packs, you name it. They're either too large to fit under an airplane seat or they don't carry enough equipment. Some have way too many compartments so looking for stuff takes a great deal of time.

I had a bag like the 555 years ago. It was sold by Leica and was plain canvas with leather straps. I loved it, but alas, I got rid of it 30 years ago.

In this day and age of high-tech ballistics fabrics, Velcro, Nylon snaps, it's kind of refreshing to see a bag company that has not gone the way of Chinese made, substandard junk and who has kept up the tradition of canvas, leather and brass.

This bag is all quality. It is very traditional, but still has high-tech padding material and construction. There is nothing shoddy about it at all. There are few pockets, and these are expansive and easy to reach. There is enough room for my MacBook Pro, my EOS 5D, 5 lenses, a Canon G10 and numerous accessories.

The only thing I found confusing to set up are the individual padded compartment "cells". There are no instructions with the bag as to how to set these up so that took a little trial and error. I still don't think they're in correctly. The leather straps and trim are beautiful and the sage color is very elegant.

A very expensive bag, but in my mind, worth the price.

Comments about 555 Shoulder Bag (Black with Black Leather Trim and Nickel Fittings):

This bag is awesome. I use it whenever need my cameras with me. I fit in my Nikon F3 along with two other rangefinders plus filters, film, passport, pens, you get the idea. I've gotten caught in the rain without a single worry about my equipment getting wet.
It's also big enough to carry around a medium format camera + lens, light meter, film backs and a large rangefinder. The sides are all padded and the construction is quality. Mine came the shoulder pad which is crucial as the thing gets heavy when full. Now I want to get a smaller version for when I only need one camera!

Comments about 555 Shoulder Bag (Khaki with Tan Leather Trim and Brass Fittings):

This bag is used daily for the following reasons. I keep my digital SLR camera, GPS, 15" laptop and paperwork in this bag.
I basically use it as a briefcase. I just love the quality and attention to detail.
It is a bit bulky for this purpose but you know the equipment is protect.
The quality feel is just superb.
