Comments about Nikon Fieldscope 25-75x82 ED Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing):

I've wanted to purchase this item for several months. When the B&H price dropped from $ to $ (as of June 2012) I picked one up immediately. This scope does not disappoint. I use it for target shooting. The target at 300 yards, viewed at 60X, is astonishingly sharp and bright. I can easily see the 1/4" holes. At 75X there is a slight reduction in brightness, and image is not as sharp, but still is acceptable.I've owned the scope for about one month now and have not had the chance to evaluate its ruggedness or ability to perform in adverse atmospheric conditions (morning dew, hot weather, etc.)My only gripe is minor: the scope could use a fine-focus ring for viewing at high magnifications. Be sure to get a nice and stable tripod and head for this scope, or you will not be able to appreciate all it has to offer.

Been waiting to purchase a scope and found the best prices at B & H. The scope was worth the wait. There is no downside to it. Can't wait to put it to more use once the weather gets warmer.

Comments about Nikon Fieldscope 25-75x82 ED Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing):

I use this scope for shooting 1000 yards plus, and it doesn't disappoint. I clearly see .30 inch impact holes in white paper at 1000 yards with this scope. I am yet to see how much further I could recognize holes past 1000 yards, but it would be quite a bit. Compared to to other scopes with industry standard glass, the Nikon ED glass is a night and day difference. If you thought regular glass was clear, you would do a double-take after looking through the ED glass. Color reproduction, clarity and focus are all perfect. This thing is built like a tank too.

I will be honest and say that for an 82mm scope, the weight isn't too terrible. My buddy at the range has a 60mm model and is equally as great as the 82mm. If you want the brightest image though, the 82mm will collect a good bit more light, especially in low-ambient light conditions (or if digiscoping).

Comments about Nikon Fieldscope 25-75x82 ED Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing):

I've used the 30X DS eyepiece (Nikon 6954) on the ED82 scope almost exclusively for six years (I own the 50X DS but rarely use it). The view through the 30X is "as good as it gets". The 30X DS eyepiece has adequate eye relief for eyeglasses, superb color rendition and edge-to-edge sharpness.

Zoom eyepieces are popular with birders but I think the ED82/30X combination is an unbeatable compromise. It delivers a wide field of view, great eye relief, superb color, deadly sharp details and a very high "WOW" factor.

Comments about Nikon Fieldscope 25-75x82 ED Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing):

I just finished watching the last space shuttle launch with this, from ten miles away. Excellent optics!

At the 25 power eyepiece setting this gave a very clear, non-distorted image. The scope easily moved on its tripod, to allow me to keep the shuttle in the viewing field throughout. I was very pleased with this scope.

Earlier, I had compared this with the lighter, Nikon "low end" 65 mm model. Both models produced clear images-- the 82 mm at 25 power and the other at 16 power. This 82 mm model produced a brighter image than did the 65 mm model.

Adjusting the 82 mm's eyepiece produced 75 power, but at slightly less clarity. So the 25 power setting was my preferred use of this scope.

The only two downsides were: 1. This 82 mm scope had less effective alignment sights than did the 65 mm model. But I had no trouble finding the target.
                        2. Both the 82 mm and the 65 mm models' lens caps were slightly loose, at both ends and tended to fall off occasionally.

Regardless, this is an excellent spotting scope, and I highly recommend it.

Comments about Nikon Fieldscope 25-75x82 ED Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing):

I purchased this scope for long range shooting. I had attended a long range precision rifle class earlier in the year and discovered the hard way that the spotting scope can make or break the team at 1000 yds. I spent several months reading reviews and weighing the pro's and con's of each scope against the price you'd have to pay for anywhere near a premium scope for that kind of range.

With B&H's excellent reputation and price for the Nikon, along with several glowing reviews I opted for the 82mm ED angled version. All I can say is that I am very pleased. The optics are clear and gather an amazing amount of light. This scope really shines at 30X, and that's where I do most of my spotting. I may just opt for a single power quality eyepiece sometime in the near future.

One word of advice, to get the most from this scope you'll need to invest in a quality tripod. And trust me, that's a lot harder to pick out from online reviews.

I have got this scope for long range shooting and it is perfectly suited for what I am doing. Astonishing clarity - I can easy see holes in my targets from 500m! I like overall solid construction, build-in hood and protective case. Biggest things that I dislike is necessity to readjust focus when changing magnification and especially no fine focus control. I rated it 4 stars because rating system does not allow me to put 4.5 - real rating that I have in my mind; it is not 5 only because no fine focus control. But for what I am using it for it is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone without any hesitation.

Very versatile, great image, fast focus. Very pleased with the performance. Have used the 75x eyepiece at night and can see 4 moons of Jupiter!

The moment I opened the box I was struck by the obvious quality of this scope. The glass is top notch and contrary to other reports the padded cover works well.

                                  * I researched spotting scopes extensively, and the 82mm field scope from Nikon was best suited to my needs and price range. I use it on our cattle stud to check up on cattle over 1km away in amazing detail! * As I am from Australia, it worked out being a heck of a lot cheaper, and the $100 gift voucher was an added bonus.*[...] I didn't find the cover of any value, just seems to get in the way.

Comments about Nikon Fieldscope 25-75x82 ED Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing):

The 82mm ED fieldscope is amazing. I used it side by side with my father-in-laws Swarovski 60mm spotting scope and noticed no difference with the exception of the Nikon's larger opening. When comparing recent pricing the Nikon is tough to beat. It is an impressive scope for the price. It is a little on the heavy side for this size of scope, definitely not something I would want to tote around in the mountains. However, Nikon does sell the 60 mm version if you need something lighter weight. The only drawback that other competitors have an upper hand on is the padded case. Of course, the cases other suppliers offer will cost you several hundred dollars, whereas Nikon supplies a case with the scope. The case is not very functional but does the job. Overall, I would definitely purchase this scope again.

This scope works well at the 75X zoom, giving that little extra punch I wanted. I watch nature from my backyard and can see bees in detail on flowers from 100 feet. Atmospheric conditions are a bit of a problem for long distances, but that is not the scopes fault. Friends are impressed with it, and I'm very ahppy with this purchase. The No Fault, 25 year warranty is also a nice feature, and B&H threw in a $100 gitf card.

Decent scope for the price. Looked for a spotting scope primarily for viewing sailboats in the bay from my deck that my image stabilized binoculars didn't have the magnification to see details of. I also want (eventually) to take pictures through it with my Nikon DSLR but the FSA-L1 Fieldscope Digiscoping SLR Camera Adapter wasn't in stock when I ordered this. Having the ability to take good photos through this was my biggest reason for stepping up from lower priced spotting scope alternatives. You'll need to use this with a decent tripod, not because it's heavy but because of shaking at higher magnifications. The built-in sightline is useful for getting in the general area although on mine I typically need to move it up a bit to get right on target. Image is crisp when focused but there is no fine focus control so you may need to do a bit of back and forth focusing to find the best focus point. At high (75x) mag the image is noticeably dimmer but I still can appreciate details. The "lifetime" (25-year) warranty is a nice plus.

Optically I was quite pleased with the 82mm Fieldscope overall. The view was bright and crisp and sharp right to the very edge of the field view. The eye relief is on the short side but acceptable. this is a very good high-performance scope, and in terms of the value, it's a truly excellent one.
