Comments about Korg MR-1 - 1-Bit Hand-Held Digital Audio Recorder:

I bought this unit to use for both interviews & stereo mix archiving, and in both uses it is excelling; fantastic stereo imaging, wide frequency response and transparent, pristine sounding mixes (they play back exactly as recorded - you can't ask for more).
I used the unit at a show the night after I bought it & was initially irked by a couple of the menu options (like having to adjust the left and right recording gain separately; not good for on the fly recording) - but after updating the software via korg.com found pretty much every issue I had already had a fix in; that shows a company who listen to their customer feedback!
Only limitations would be the limited volume available from the headphone output (it could certainly do with more headroom, especially using cans which require a bit of juice like my Sennheiser HD280Pro's).
Fantastic buying, and B&H had the best price by a mile (and I looked everywhere).

Comments about Korg MR-1 - 1-Bit Hand-Held Digital Audio Recorder:

This is a good recorder, but it has one flaw, it's short internal battery life (less than two hours). To offset the short internal battery life, Korg offers an external battery pack to extend the recording time, but it has its issues, too. For example, when the external battery pack is attached to the recorder, it will not allow the MR-1 to shutdown properly after the internal battery has been depleted. This failure to shutdown properly results in the recording being lost. With a combination of a fully charged internal battery and fresh batteries in the external battery pack, I would not record beyond three hours. It would be better to stop the recording to save your recording. Then, you should go and recharge the internal battery. From my recent experience with the MR-1, there is a strong possibility that using the MR-1 beyond this safety margin could result in damage to the MR-1's PC board. The damaged PC board causes a failure to connect to the PC through the MR-1's USB connection. For your information, your PC shows the error message, Cypress AT2LP RC42, when the MR-1 attempts to connect to it.

Comments about Korg MR-1 - 1-Bit Hand-Held Digital Audio Recorder:

A dream come true. 1 bit 2.8mhz is the universal digital format. You can transcode to PCM transparently with only any losses due to inherent resolution limitations of the target format. If that weren't enough, it's dirt cheap and fits in your pocket. I am a total user. In my profession as an interactive training developer for a large drilling company I use it to record narration and other sound for that purpose. As a pro/am location recordist of classical music, pipe organs, and such it's replace the large digital audio workstations I used to lug around. And as an audiophile, I can get near perfect transcriptions of even the finest LP's. And, last but not least, it's an audiophile Ipod I can carry to audiophile gatherings.

I could go on, but just try one. Two quibbles: I've not been impressed with battery life so far. Does not appear to meet spec...but I may have a bum battery. Also, it would be PERFECT if they would add a second USB port to allow use of an external HDD to add capacity.
