I give this film the Best in saturated color of the Night sky in non light polluted areas

the film handle's vary well in 4 - 6 and 8 hour night long shots

and i have this grievance against digital cameras

i shot film and digital the 40D and the Rebel xt both fully charged with grip and 2 battery's

i did a programed 4 hour exposure with each both cameras made it the 4 hours but when i disengaged the canon 40D the camera choked and died its program would not respond and it faded out and died i was Burned red HOT in the for head
and exemely disappointed i inserted new battery pack and the camera struggled to come back with only a few signs of life on its Grey scale LCD
no image was recovered that camera was deader then a door nail a 1,700 papper weight

and then on another tripod the rebel XT that fared better after its 4 hour exposure ended
fearing it too would die it did not die it still had half its battery life and it was processing the image for 1 2 and after 2 hours and a few minutes the low battery light comes on and the camera stops to operate simply because i could not add power to it it lost its image
I WAS steamed when i got back home i tested the battery's that were in the first round of the 40D and they were each had 1/3rd Life left in them

So back to that Shoot it was about 145 am and i still had 5 hour of Night time left
so i got my 2 film cameras out and set them up
and in one i had this film the Fuji ISO 50
and let me tell you this film preformed flawlessly
and its quality grain per pixel i say is better then 10MP and i am sure it would compete with a 39Mp camera

this film is so good with color it is able to bring the color right out of the stars themselves during this long exposure i am thrilled

and the price is well worth and the wait to see it is not a problem for me

I recommend this film to anyone wanting to photograph Long exposure Night Sky using a lens that is F= 2.0 or better canons 24mm f=1.4

Film also has a another value its evidence
its proof its secure from accidental delete or
Evan like me Outright failure of digitalls

now i don't hate digital there is a use for that format for quick fast instant photography

but Digital has alot of growing up to do before i am satisfied

FILM is the way the truth and the life for the real Photographer

i challenge any digital photographer on my word

Velvia 50 is a film for landscapes, known for it's unique colors. It is not intended for portraits or general use due to its very specific color reproduction. Well... Too specific for my taste.

Even when used as intended - for landscapes in "golden hours" - this film produces colors that are very unnatural and actually very unpleasant to my eye. So unpleasant that the only way to save images for me was to scan them and correct colors in post.

This is a great film with very unique character, just not for everybody.

Comments about Fujifilm Fujichrome Velvia 50 Professional RVP 50 Color Transparency Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures):

I have always generally preferred digital photography over most color films because of the former's vibrant colors and better detail. That is until I tried a roll of Velvia 50. I scanned the negatives onto a disk and when I opened the images up on my coputer I was astounded by the results. Not only were the colors as vibrant as any of my digital photos but the images had much better depth than their digital counterparts. I took two shots of the Freedom Tower in NYC, the first with a digital camera and the second using a film camera loaded with Velvia 50. Looking at the two images side by side the digital image looked flat in comparison to the film image which had noticeably better depth. Phenomenal film for landscape shots but not so great for closeup portraits as it has a tendency to turn skin yellowish green.

I use this film in my 1953 vintage View Master Personal Camera. I can make wonderful 3-D pictures with it and I LOVE the slow speed film. It is the BEST for nighttime photos. The shutter speed on my 62 year old camera is as slow as a turtle (max speed = 1/100 sec) and background light has plenty of time to stroll onto the film. ;-)

I just bought a roll and shot it to see how good Fuji processing is, to be frank, since that mailer seems to be the only easy option available. I am pleased to say that the slides came back very quickly, showing good fidelity and no spots or dirt that might have suggested use of old chemicals.

As for the film, it is the same wonderful Velvia I appreciated before and that allowed me to watch development of digital SLRs without having to dive in. I now have a mirror less camera that I like, but Velvia will keep my Canon F1N as my preferred camera for serious use,

You will never go back to your old film after using this film, period. It has simply unbelievable color. If you use this film, you will be the next to post that you love it.

I use this in my studio rather then my Canon 5D mark ii. I can get more detial in the shadows with the slide flim.

My previous Velvia 50 review misstated some resolution figures. The correct information is that my favorite lab scans C-41 (color negative) film at around 2400 ppi, and scans E-6 (color slide) film at around 1200 ppi, apparently because different equipment is used. Obviously, other labs will do things differently.

Velvia 50 is a great film which will produce excellent slides, but the quality of the digital images obtained will depend entirely on who does the scanning and what equipment they use.

Here are a couple of Velvia 50 sample images. Note: these are 100% crops from the original 1236 x 1808 scans.

This film, "Velvia 50" is the re-engineered version of the discontinued original "Velvia" (also ISO 50). It is said to have the saturated colors (but somewhat overripe skin tones) that the original was famous for. The re-engineering was to allow the film to be made with the same base and manufacturing equipment as Fujifilm's more recent slide films.

Like all slide films, it has a narrow latitude (perhaps plus or minus half a stop), so accurate metering and/or exposure bracketing are a must.

Slide films are generally more expensive than color negative films, and E-6 processing and mounting is more expensive and increasingly hard to obtain. I would say my total cost per image of shooting slide film, counting film, developing, scanning, and shipping costs, is about double that of color negative film.

The particular lab I use (by mail, and who I like a lot) scans color negative film at about 200 ppi, but uses different (and, in my opinion, inferior) equipment for scanning slide film, at only about 100 ppi.

The point of all this is that your results will depend A LOT on who develops and scans your film. For me, I get better results at half the cost with color negative film.

But if slide film is what you want, Velvia 50 is an excellent choice.
