Comments about Manfrotto 272B Adjustable Background Holder (108"):

Great item. Does what it should. Might need a couple clamps for paper but often I don't. Mechanism where it slides out has some very light grease or oil. And it probably needs it. But it also kind of gets on your hand a little. Just a mini heads up.

Comments about Manfrotto 272B Adjustable Background Holder (108"):

This is the same cross bar holder that comes in the Manfrotto kit, but the stands in that kit didn't go as high as I wanted. So I bought 2 of the Impact 9.5' heavy duty stands and bought 4 of the 2" pony spring clamps instead of that kit. I feel I got a much more heavy duty support system this way for less money. This cross bar ties everything in very well. It is very easy to set up and the telescoping pole is highly adjustable for different sized rooms.

As always, Manfrotto quality build. Works well for Paper and Muslin backgrounds. I use it with 2 Manfrotto 1052BAC stands. Very sturdy setup.

Comments about Manfrotto 272B Adjustable Background Holder (108"):

As Usual with Manfrotto..Well thought out, well designed, well built, well priced and er.. well versatile :-)Out of the box one end is free to spin, which makes you think its faulty or slack quality control at the factory. Once in use, you realize that its allowed to spin so that you can adjust the length using the twist lock system whilst the the bar is fixed/attached to both the uprights/light stands. When using it as a cross bar to fix a D700 and 2x sb900's using 3 super clamps and a tripod ball head in the middle of it. It instilled full confidence to leave it there all day, no worries.. ..and there was no sign of tube compression when I cranked down the super clamps. I Have the Manfrotto Lbag110 for my light stands and the bar is about 120mm too long for the bag, I just close the two zips either side of its protrusion and the bag still sits good on the shoulder...If you peeled back the skin on my right forearm, underneath you would see the name 'NIKON' If you peeled back the skin on my left forearm you would see the name 'MANFROTTO'.. :-DBuy with confidence....Oh yeah, just remembered. Out of the box there seems to be an oily residue on it, so a once over with a cloth is a good Idea, especially if your then going to be handling a white back drop..

Comments about Manfrotto 272B Adjustable Background Holder (108"):

I already own some Manfrotto 1052BAC light stands (same as included in the full kit), also recommended, so I just added this crossbar. At its minimum length, its stiff enough that the light stands slip and shorten before the crossbar flexes when I pull down hard. At its maximum length, it does sag a little in the middle but its not a problem. The working length of the crossbar ranges from 42" to 9.5' and is infinitely adjustable between those two lengths. There are three tube sections and you just twist them to lock/unlock. The fittings that sit on top of the light stand spigots add 3" to the total length of the bar. The T-handle on the clamp brings the total thickness to just over 2" which wasn't a problem for the pocket on my 10x20 muslin. One clamp is free spinning which I think makes it easy to setup solo and could compensate for some uneven floors.

Comments about Manfrotto 272B Adjustable Background Holder (108"):

Like most Manfrotto products, this is well made and solid, but quite light and convenient to carry.

It is easy to extend and collapse, locks well in place and does not bow too much.

The end blocks lock onto a standard spigot, but are bulky and hard to get through rolls.

The whole rod only needed to be a tiny bit longer and it would have suited 3m wide rolls just fine. As it is they buckle up on the ends.

Comments about Manfrotto 272B Adjustable Background Holder (108"):

Does as it should. Holds a 9' roll of seamless with some room to spare. It does flex a little bit, but in no way am I worried that it will break. I love how light and portable it is and how it just fits on to normal light stands. This works well for location shoots. I wouldn't use it permanently in a studio.

Used to hold a 9' roll of white seamless paper. Good value, solid construction, but still feels a bit light for heavy backgrounds. It's the best portable option I've found, but for studio work I'd use an autopole.

This holder collapses smaller than the bg bar that came with my stands. I use this to suspend bg paper with bicycle hooks that screw into the ceiling - eliminates problems with kids knocking down the bg holder stands.

Great bar for holding backdrops. I have plenty of stands, so I didn't need the kit to go with it. With a 9 foot by 12 yard roll on it, it sags just a fraction in the center, but nothing to be worried about. If you get a paper roll with a cardboard core, you won't have any problems with this. Great for fabrics as well.

I bought this background bar for location work - it's compact and sets up super quick without the need for super clamps as opposed to other more basic segmented bar systems. The screw-lock segments are a neat idea, but if they get over-tightened, it's a pain to get them loose again. Fortunately, the locks aren't really necessary for reliable operation and the segments hold their position on friction alone. The only thing that's lacking in this bar is that it won't accommodate backgrounds larger than 9', but I don't really need backgrounds that big on location, so this works great.

I've used this for paper rolls, but also for hanging loose fabric.

PRO: It's lightweight & telescopes down to a transportable length.

CON: It's lightweight, which worries me that it will break - but in several years' steady use, it hasn't. On occasion I've had trouble twisting (unlocking) its sections, to make it expand or contract.
