I shoot mainly Landscapes and some Interiors. This lens is fantastic for both applications. My first recommendation to you is...Read the Professional test results and recommendations about the lens and...Believe B&H Buyer Reviews!Only 4 out of 417 gave less than four stars!.....Then make your decision.I have been reading about this lens for several years and finally bought it. It is incredible! My current setup is a...Nikon D800E Digital SLR Camera - Set to FX ModeNikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens USANikon GP-1 GPS Unit Weighing in at 4lbs. 8oz.Not a small package and not a lightweight package! For me these are not problems. They are a small price to pay for the spectacular images this lens records. (Also... I admit I am used to a large setup. When shooting weddings I always used a Mamiya 6X7 Pro with 110mmm Lens and a Sunpak 622 flash.)Think it over carefully and then make your decision. If you choose this lens you WILL BE pleased with the images you are able to record! It's size, weight, and price is worth it when you are viewing the wonderful images you created and can say… "I took those photographs!"

3 Stars for what is a "legendary" lens.

It all depends on what you need from this big hunk of glass. The reason why this lens gets so many 5 star ratings is the obsessive nature of landscape photographers and their needs to go wide. Anything under 20mm and I felt the tackyness coming into my work. I had this lens locked in at 24mm and for that reason I returned it. I also had to spend mega bucks to buy a Lee SW150II system to compensate for the bulbous element. I already own a whole Lee system so that was a tough pill to swallow, buying all new HUGE filters.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I use this lens mainly for landscape photography and find it's extremely sharp even when used at f 2.8 such as when I'm taking photos of stars. It does have a couple of drawbacks...it's heavy but that's understandable, and it would have been nice if Nikon supplied it with a filter holder.

I bought this lens just before my trip to Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon. The picture quality is stunning. It is worth every penny I spent. Like the other reviewers, the protection of the glass is not easy task. Otherwise, definitely FIVE stars.

Coming from DX body and 12-24mm DX

By Dave of the Outdoors

from Arlington, MA

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I previously had the Nikon 12-24 f/4 on a D7100, and really liked the wider angle. I have the 14-24 mounted on a D610, and it works great. Optically fantastic, as all the other reviews call out. Downsides? It's larger than my prior setup, and cost almost twice as much. If I was still on a DX body, I'd probably prefer the 12-24 for the weight/size savings. On a full frame body, I'd much rather this lens, as optically it outperforms the 12-24 (both are still good lenses, in my opinion).

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Much has been written so far, so I won't try to cover all the ground on this review. For the larger full frame format, this lives up to its reputation in other reviews - very sharp out to the corners with a bit of chromatic aberration, uniform illumination at larger apertures, little distortion, good color contrast. CA, while likely to show up in large (e.g., more than 24X36) prints, is easily correctable and the red/green fringing is sharp so the correction looks great. Like most ultrawide zooms on high resolution bodies, the autofocus is not exactly reproduce-able at the shorter focal lengths, so I use live view manual focus to get the most out of this very sharp lens.

It is quite a piece of equipment at 2 pounds, but not bad balance on the D800E. My copy is well made with no optical or mechanical weak spots. I'll keep it.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I use this lens primarily to take star trail photos. It is much sharper and more forgiving than my AF-S Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8. Lens is large and heavy (2-1/4 lbs); not easy to schlep around. When you need a 14mm fast lens it can not be beat.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Over the decades, I've owned or used every Nikon rectilinear ultrawide. The 14-24mm combines superb image quality, at least as good as the previous 14mm f/2.8 ED lens, with the convenience of an f/2.8 pro zoom, and nicely compliments my 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom lens. ... One drawback- if you use ND gradient filters, you'll be spending a lot of extra $$$ on, say, a FotodioX system to get a mounting adapter and ND grads that won't vignette at 14mm.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I am yet to hear or read a truly negative review of this lens. I pushed this lens to it's extremes - shooting into the sun, focusing with little available light, backlit situations etc. Yet to see a photo that was never usable. Sharpness, color & contrast and focusing abilities are my picks of this immensely valuable lens. Handled with care, this lens will surely outlive you churning out brilliant images session after session. It is heavy, and you need a really good tripod to make the best of this beast. Helps with composition in tight spaces, and allows you to crop unwanted areas of the frame by letting you get as close as you need to your subject. I rarely shot this lens at anything but the 14mm setting, but I am sure the lens performs equally well at all focal lengths. I also get quite a few stares and occasional questions when people see me hauling this beast with a Fotodiox filter mounted on - you might want to keep it in your bag and take this out only when you are at the location and ready to shoot.

This is a keeper, as are its amazing images. I am sure Nikon will not stop making this lens for quite a while. With the 16-35mm available with VR, I am also kinda convinced they will not upgrade this lens to include a VR - truth is we don't actually need it.

So if you are thinking of buying this - add to cart and check out rightaway.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

This is the first lens I've owned that I've actually been EXCITED about. Sure, with a tele you can get those close-up shots you've been craving, but you don't get anything you haven't seen before. This lens, though, puts a whole new perspective on things. I spent quite some time on the couch zooming from one end to the other, comparing the angle of view I was used to at 24mm, compared to the new wider 14mm. It takes in such a wide view I swear it can almost see around corners, and it stretched the living room out so much I thought I'd need two bus transfers just to get to the TV.

Yes, it distorts heavily around the edges at 14mm, and buildings and trees take on a definite slant when angled up at them, but you can either try to mitigate it in post, or learn to embrace it. Personally, I love the new perspective it opens up.

I almost bought the 16mm-35mm instead, because this one doesn't have VR, but it really doesn't need it. And, when shooting on a tripod (this was made for landscapes), I don't need to worry whether I remembered to turn off the VR.

Some have cited the size and weight as a drawback, but it's about the same size as the 24mm-120mm f/4 kit lens, and only a little heavier. Regardless, this thing is a joy to hold and shoot. And with max. aperture of f/2.8, it's no wonder this lens is so renowned for astrophotography. And although it won't accept filters, the permanently-attached lens hood does a decent job of protecting the front element.

A great lens - you won't be disappointed.

This will be purposefully quick. A superlative lens for wide shooters, it delivers on every single aspect expected of an expensive, professional Nikkor lens. Doubtless the best Nikkor zoom in my experience and absolutely worth every penny charged for it assuming you require something this wide. It's not on my D800E all the time due to its speciality nature but when it is it's all joy. Always be cognizant of the unprotected front element and careful when cleaning it which is, still to this day, a daunting task for me. Go ahead and believe the hype, all well founded and deserved!!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Like him or not, Ken Rockwell says this is "the" lens for us wide angle junkies. You can use this for landscape; to get it all in (and it's beautiful) but you can also use it to get all in it. I like what I can do with other focal lengths but I am a photo-enthusiast for my family first.

I do like to get the sunsets etc, but primarily this 14-24 is the dream for getting right in the action with my son. It is expensive, I sometimes remind myself, so you have to be brave enough to risk getting the shot. I am =)!

I previously had a mirrorless set-up with a wide angle 10-18mm (cropped to 15-27) and it was super lightweight in comparison. Got some nice shots with it but whoa the distortion!! Had a really nice shot, for example, with my wife holding my son as they stood to the side of a WWII aircraft during an aircraft. Lovely photo but even with LR I could not get her legs back to normal due to the exggerated barrel roll. This lens may be a tank in comparison but it has none of that. It's just perfect.

Local camera shop sorta remarked that it is a ridiculously heavy lens that makes the D750 quite front heavy. Wow, you know how much I care? Just about zero percent. I go out for the afternoon or evening and have barely a mental complaint as I will sometimes use the shoulder strap to take a break. At the end of the day it's about getting the shots. And this baby sings.

Sharp, accurate, with wonderful rendering. If you don't need "the best" you can save some money and weight and still get nice landscape shots. But if you also like to get "all in it" then this is unmatched in it's glory and nothing else will do.

The distortion is only an issue if you don't use an editing software for post production clean-ups. It disappears in one click on Lightroom. The lens itself is extremely solid in feel. Only downside to this lens is that the hood is fixed and can't be removed, so ND filters become very expensive as a result.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

OK, let's start with the minor drawbacks and then finish on a positive high!!

                      Cons:

                      1. Huge front glass that's a little exposed and required 'mindfulness' when using to ensure it is treated carefully (you don't want to scratch the glass on this baby given the price to acquire it!!)

                      2. Some flare at times, so again, requires a little skill when using in daylight.

That's it on the downer-side. Now the upside......

                      Benefits:

This lens IS THE BOMB! Super sharp, fast, and great colour rendition and high contrast. Great for indoors, architectural (some distortion but not too bad for a wide angle).

It's a BIG lens, but I also like using it for street photography. It's great on my D300 and also my Df.

Bottom line, if your budget can take you there....GO FOR IT! No regrets and definitely a keeper lens in my bag.
