My first recommendation to you is...Read the Professional test results and recommendations about the lens and...Believe B&H Buyer Reviews!Only 4 out of 417 gave less than four stars!.....Then make your decision.I have been reading about this lens for several years and finally bought it. They are a small price to pay for the spectacular images this lens records. (Also... I admit I am used to a large setup. When shooting weddings I always used a Mamiya 6X7 Pro with 110mmm Lens and a Sunpak 622 flash.)Think it over carefully and then make your decision. If you choose this lens you WILL BE pleased with the images you are able to record! It's size, weight, and price is worth it when you are viewing the wonderful images you created and can say… "I took those photographs!"

3 Stars for what is a "legendary" lens.

It all depends on what you need from this big hunk of glass. The reason why this lens gets so many 5 star ratings is the obsessive nature of landscape photographers and their needs to go wide. Anything under 20mm and I felt the tackyness coming into my work. I had this lens locked in at 24mm and for that reason I returned it. I also had to spend mega bucks to buy a Lee SW150II system to compensate for the bulbous element. I already own a whole Lee system so that was a tough pill to swallow, buying all new HUGE filters.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I purchased this lens for the very wide field of view and fast 2.8 aperture. I will be using it mainly for interiors of buildings, milky way / nights sky photos and landscape photography. Compared to my 17-35mm, the field of view increase is considerable. The lens is very sharp and I did not experience any issues with flair shooting directly into the sun as others have. Not worried about lack of polarizer use as at this wide the polarizing will not go across the entire frame evenly anyway. (this is a problem on my 17-35)

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

In the interest of full disclosure, I've been shooting Nikon gear since 1980. My first transition into the digital era came with a purchase of a D2x. This particular lens has been on my wish list for a long time, but the full benefit of the wider end of the zoom range was compromised wth the DX format. Now shooting with a full-frame FX body, I finally took the leap and bought this lens and it really is beautiful. I've never been one to get excited by gear, viewing it as a tool to get a job done, but this chunk of glass has lived up to my expectations.

I use it for architectural and documentary subjects and am still exploring it's best applications. Apart from it's impressive appearance and beautiful construction, it produces really crisp, tack-sharp images worthy of the high-resolution sensors we work with today.

So far, I haven't encountered anything to be disappointed about except the price - which I guess we just have to get used to...

Sharp as advertised, great contrast and color. I also owned a 20mm 1.8G which is very good but the 14-24 is still sharp wide open!

Cons: It is heavy and expensive.

While the lens is heavy, once you start taking pics you realize why. It is a tremendously made piece of equipment and worth the price. I'm just a casual photographer and I'm not even using it on a full frame yet. The quality on my 7100 is amazing, so i can only imagine once I put it on a full frame.

I have had my Nikon 14-24mm f2.8G ED lens a couple of weeks and am super pleased with the purchase. I have owned other wide angle lens in the past and nothing compares to the sharpness from the middle to the edges. The lines are straight and true. I own the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 VR, 70-200 f2.8 and other Nikon primes however this lens is the best of the bunch!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Used it within the first week of purchasing on a trip to Moab, UT. Great for close ups and great as a wide angle to capture fantastic landscape pics. Was great shooting the stars at Arches National Park (2.8 allows you to shoot at lower ISO thus less noise in the pics. The best extended exposure shots I have ever taken came with this lens ... Wish I could attach one with this review)

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I knew that I loved ultra wide shooting from my previous mirrorless experience so when I made the happy jump into the Nikon system this was my second purchase. I am a dad first so when I am out with my family I focus on my kid, wife, and will shoot landscapes if they look interesting. You might be scratching your head at this point as surely the good o'l 50f14 is the way to go for family shots. Well, that lens is perfect, fast, does well in low light, yada yada, but looking back now over the past year of shooting it is the 14-24 that gives me the top 10 keepers. This is not a focal length for the faint of heart. It is very challenging but if I get it right, well these are the pictures that are interesting. Pictures that I want to print and will surely stand the test of time. I even have two shots that I love from selfie zone; just reach out at arms length and capture my wife and I with our little one. The ability to closely shoot is fantastic.I've seen the (rather convincing) reviews of the VR Tamron and it is true that I have to be aware when shooting directly in the sun. But I can and I do. And most ultrawide reviews are looking at landscape anyway, whereas I am looking at fast, fast, fast AF of run and gun with my kid. This lens can keep up. I've never thought, gee whiz I wish I had VR. Probably valuable for those looking to do video but that's not me.

The nikon 14-24 is unreal. I am primarily a video shooter, and this lens is absolutely amazing to have for your establishing/wide shots. Especially for use with a glidecam. Tack sharp as well. The only reason I give it 4 starts instead of 5 is because it does flare pretty badly. I actually like the look most of the time, but I know this may be a downside for some.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I was well aware of the weight of the lens, no filter attachment, high bulb like in front of the lens which can be easily scratched. I do admit, it is a bit heavy at times when mounted on the df and shoot with it all day long. The image quality, built quality are as advertised, after all it's a pro lens, focus is fast and accurate in low light. Minimal line distortion for a wide angle lens, as I rarely use post production software. It stayed on my df 75% of the time on this trip to Asia. Worth every penny.

If weight is an issue and need wide angle, one may consider the prime lenses, 14mm, 24mm, or 35mm to name a few and zoom in and out with our own two feet.

I use this lens mainly for landscape photography and find it's extremely sharp even when used at f 2.8 such as when I'm taking photos of stars. It does have a couple of drawbacks...it's heavy but that's understandable, and it would have been nice if Nikon supplied it with a filter holder.

Coming from DX body and 12-24mm DX

          By Dave of the Outdoors

          from Arlington, MA

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I previously had the Nikon 12-24 f/4 on a D7100, and really liked the wider angle. I have the 14-24 mounted on a D610, and it works great. Optically fantastic, as all the other reviews call out. Downsides? It's larger than my prior setup, and cost almost twice as much. If I was still on a DX body, I'd probably prefer the 12-24 for the weight/size savings. On a full frame body, I'd much rather this lens, as optically it outperforms the 12-24 (both are still good lenses, in my opinion).

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Much has been written so far, so I won't try to cover all the ground on this review. For the larger full frame format, this lives up to its reputation in other reviews - very sharp out to the corners with a bit of chromatic aberration, uniform illumination at larger apertures, little distortion, good color contrast. CA, while likely to show up in large (e.g., more than 24X36) prints, is easily correctable and the red/green fringing is sharp so the correction looks great. Like most ultrawide zooms on high resolution bodies, the autofocus is not exactly reproduce-able at the shorter focal lengths, so I use live view manual focus to get the most out of this very sharp lens.

It is quite a piece of equipment at 2 pounds, but not bad balance on the D800E. My copy is well made with no optical or mechanical weak spots. I'll keep it.

I use this lens primarily to take star trail photos. It is much sharper and more forgiving than my AF-S Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8. Lens is large and heavy (2-1/4 lbs); not easy to schlep around. When you need a 14mm fast lens it can not be beat.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I do a lot of nature, garden, landscape photography. As with many NIKKOR lenses, the 14-24mm f/2.8 is sharp and seems to work really well no matter what focal length used. Behaves like multiple prime lenses in one! So far, very happy with this lens.
