Comments about Hasselblad H3DII-31 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 80mm Lens:

I am an advanced amateur who primarily shoots B&W landscape with large format cameras up to 8x10-inches.

There is no difference, that I could discern, between the image quality of this camera (31MP) and the same-sized chip with 40MP. In ultimate image quality, it beats my Nikon D3x (24.5MP) not only in resolving power but in dynamic range as well. Furthermore, it leaves the user only a little short in comparing the output with a 60MP sensor - only subtle differences in a side-by-side comparison. In short, expect to be able to make prints up to 40x50-inches while maintaining excellent quality that beats FF 35mm cameras.

I purchased this camera for outdoor landscape and fine art photography. So far I'm pleased with the image quality and the purchase. Expect to use Hasselblad's free Phocus software to get rid of moire which might be apparent in some images. This chip does not have an anti-aliasing filter and as such ensures the sharpest images but its absence allows moire to creep in occasionally. The Phocus software also has all the lens profiles for this camera and can automatically correct for chromatic aberration, lens distortion, and vignetting. Image quality compares favorably with my 4x5-inch camera.

Don't expect to use this camera in the rain or condensing humidity, like one might use a professional DLSR. It is primarily designed as a studio camera and as such does not have the weather sealing like a high end Nikon or Canon.

The negative: This camera does not have automatic white balance, which is kind of a pain when used outdoors. One must set it manually depending upon the situation. The Battery (Li-ion) has limited performance - expect about 200 shots on a charge. The rear display is poor compared to a modern (at the time this review was written) DSLR. The display is very difficult to use outdoors in sunlight, and because of its limited resolution does not have the capability of showing the finest detail that the CCD is capable of.

When I purchased the camera, it had already been trumped by Hasselblad's H4D line of cameras - it was manufactured approximately 12 months ago, which in the digital camera world is a long time.

Negative things aside, it is ultimate image quality that counts, and this camera delivers.

Comments about Hasselblad H3DII-31 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 80mm Lens:

A great camera that Hasselblad had came up with,
H3DII-39 was at a much higher cost, while H3DII-31 is more affordable,
only with a marginal crop, if one has a chance to look into the viewfinder of both models, it is easy to tell that the crop factor is only minimal, and does little to no harm at all, (as long as you are not a landscape or interior shooter), it is actually very wise to go for this model instead of the more expensive one....... I use this camera for fun, and not for making a living, it makes more sense to me that it has ISO1600 sensitivity to allow faster shutter speeds for out-of-studio shots..... I purchased this camera while it is at clearance for 12,000usd, what a bargain for a camera at this caliber.....
just 2 weeks before I got it, I had placed the order for H4D-40 in the region I live at a much higher price with the HCD 35-90 f4-f5.6,
I didn't regret dropping my order of H4D, and just get the zoom alone, and I am now having a good time with the 31mp back and zoom, and having the extra cash to get a set of good battery powered lights too :)
lots of thumbs up for this camera,
