For the price, this VariZoom VZ-TK75A has been a very decent tripod, and its been my principle tipod for the past year.

There is one major problem that has developed over time:

The fluid head's handle is made of two pieces, attached near the screw. Whatever part that is holding the handle to the part that screws into the fluid head has started to wear loose. The handle now has some jostle, which adversly affects filming fluidity.

I will contact VariZoom about this, and if they cannot help, I'll have to replace this arm.

Another smaller problem that I've worked around, is the plate tightens to the head via a poorly designed screw that, if your camera hangs over the edge, the screw will not be able to turn far enough to tighten prooperly, b\c the camera is in the way.

PROS:
The fluid head is sturdy, and adjustable tilt has held up and delivered great shots. I typically throw a Canon DSLR with a 70-200mm lens on this tripod, and the resulting shots are consistently great.

WEIGHT SUPPORT / GLIDETRACK
I have attached a Glidetrack to the tripod, but I get significant sway as the camera weight shifts from one side to the other. If you're thinking of using it for a slider, try something sturdier.

For the price, this tripod has been good for me to learn a bit about using my DSLR for video work. It's too heavy to schlep around for still photo work, but, that's not a deal breaker since that's not what it was designed for or advertised to do. Over all it's a bargain for what you get: smooth head, sturdy legs, a removable mounting plate for your camera, and a nice carrying bag.

It does have some negative issues:

1. The handle extension locked up right away--it would go out but not retract. I unscrewed the locking collar and was able to get it unstuck, temporarily. I now just put it in a short to medium length and lock it up and don't mess with adjusting it.

2. You cannot see the little level from directly above. It's close to useless as it is hidden under the head, for the most part.

3. The legs of the tripod are assembled with pop-rivets and some other "cheap" methods.

BUT none of these thing keep the tripod and head from being useful, especially considering the price. Locking the extension of the handle and leaving it there solves #1; putting a level on your camera solves #2; and the somewhat cheap construction will probably not become a problem for the light usage I will give it.

If I were to need a more robust video tripod I'd just spend 5-10 times the price of this particular piece of kit.

I would recommend this to a friend who needed a tripod for light use.

Overall a very nice video tripod. It has the features of a more expensive tripod.
    • It is sturdy but light enough for easy carrying.
    • The legs lock/unlock with ease even with gloves.
    • I like the fluid head functions such as quick release mount, locks and drag adjustments, and level.

        Good Tripod for the Price

Comments about VariZoom VZ-TK75A Aluminum Tripod System:

I have 14 of these Tripods. Students use them in a University setting. Overall they are a good tripod.

        Pros:
Very stable, good friction head, durable, ball leveling head and very good service!

Cons:The friction head becomes stiff in cold weather, Not a good quick release system, plate lock lever may run into camera body and Tripod bag issues.

For this price, these are good tripods. They are pretty durable, stable and I like the ball leveling head. The friction head is pretty good until it gets below freezing, then it becomes too stiff.

I'm very happy with Varizooms service. I've had issues with some of the tripod bags. I've had a broken zipper, two others that had the top flap rip loose and they were all replaced under warranty. Varizoom, Please sew the pad into the bag!

On the tripod, I had one of the lower leg slide guides break off. The entire tripod was replaced by Varizoom.

I've had some minor maintenance issues: The pan arm teeth loosened up on one head, I tightened up the screws that hold that toothed section to the head. One pan arm became loose, screwed it back in.

If I needed a quick release system, I'd look at a higher price point. For this price, the release system is ok.

For my needs, these tripods are a good value. They are stable, have no backlash, and I like the ball leveling head. If I made a living shooting everyday, I'd be shopping at a higher price point looking for a true fluid head.

For the price, there is no beating this. I've worked with $ -$ tripods with fluid heads and a bowl leveling system. I would never put more than 10 pounds on this and it wouldn't keep a 47' slider stable by itself (duh, I was a little too hopeful on this), but for the price, it is going to be perfect for me and my videography business. I had it over my shoulder in the bag while filming a conference the other day and the weight didn't leave me with any discomfort. I would easily be okay with hiking out a few miles with this thing because I know it will keep my shots stable. Very happy customer.

I bought one of these tripods over a year ago, and I use a backup camera, which I was using with an inferior tripod. My best compliment about this tripod is that after looking around at the competition, I decided why mess with success. I now use two of these tripods, and I'm very happy.

I purchased this tripod to use with a Sony XD-CAM that weighs about 9 pounds. I film weddings and wanted a steady platform to film from. The tripod sets up quickly and I like the leveling bowl mount. For videography, the long arm on the fluid pan head works like a charm. I would definitely recommend this for video work and for the price, it is a great value. It is not a light weight unit, so if that is your objective, this might not be for you. Otherwise, get one.

For the price this tripod does the job but if you've ever used higher quality gear you'll be disappointed. This tripod is great for stationary locked down shots and is steady. If dialed in right you can tilt and pan smoothly but the head does slip a little. If you are a run and gun shooter the tripod plate release is not your friend. So, a good little tripod for a stationary "B" camera but I wouldn't recommend this as your primary tripod. I wish I would have ponied up for a Sachtler or Miller.

I use this for shooting indoors and out with a Canon DSLR and a larger Sony Handycam.

Pans and tilts smoothly you can add drag gradually and lock it in if the camera is front heavy with a lens.

Sometimes I have less experienced users help out and they all have done quite good work panning and tilting smoothly.

I wish it had a light on the leveling bubble for those rare occasions I am in the dark setting up but I can see it fine with my cell phone when needed.

I like to shoot blues bands. With a Panasonic camcorder which is only 1.1 lbs. it works very well. I also like the carry case provided. In this price range you can't go wrong.

Comments about VariZoom VZ-TK75A Aluminum Tripod System:

Even though I am new to Videography, (not new to photography), I can easily appreciate the quality and value of this product. Have used it in front of some pros in the Biz and they have also been very impressed. So I am Very pleased with this purchase. And considering the small fortune I paid for my Gitzo carbon fiber w/ hydrostatic ball head, that only comes out on special occasions, this purchase was a no brainer.

Comments about VariZoom VZ-TK75A Aluminum Tripod System:

Light but sturdy and has smooth motion for pans and tilts. I use it for the Canon XA10. The best thing about this product was the customer service from B&H. I asked them, is this a fluid head and they said no it's a friction head as are all tripods in this price range. I've seen the term "fluid head" tossed around a lot and it was nice to get an honest answer. I had seen a demo of the tripod, liked it and bought it. I am glad I did. Only drawback is that the drag adjust does not make a lot of difference but the smoothness of the motion makes up for it.
