Why did I wait so long to buy a monopod? The B&H combo deal of the Manfrotto 679B monopod with the quick detachable 234 RC head is perfect!Together they work in perfect harmony. Light and easy to master. Where I would leave my cumbersome heavy and cheap tripod behind, I now take my light and high quality Manfrotto monpod along for the day.Tall enough for an easy six footer to view - no stooping! The leg latches are quick and easy to use. Drop down to knee hight in a second. The head very easily transitions from landscape horizontials to portrait verticals. For hot & heavy off hand action, just ditch the stick with the flick of a lever! For less than [$], you just can't beat it!

The Manfrotto 679B monopod is a very sturdy unit. It extends quickly and smoothly w/ flip locking levers. It is not 63 3/4" tall however. It is 61 5/8" tall. This is somewhat of an issue for me as I'm 6'3" (75") tall. The 2 1/8" difference won't effect me too much, but if you are looking for a taller monopod, you'll need to look elsewhere.

Other than that, it has a neat retracting 3/8" and 1/4" thread capability to handle many differnet equipments types. This unit works well with my large and heavy sports lenses, supporting them easily.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):

Used this monopod with a Custom Brackets Digital PRO-SV Bracket and a Canon 7D to photograph the First Friday festival in Gadsden, Alabama recently. Excellent piece of equipment and I got some very good, sharp shots. The only thing that could possibly be improved would be to makke it a four section monopod so it colapses down a little smaller but that is a minor issue.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):

Manfrotto Three Section Monopod is more than adequate for my Olympus E-3 and E-5 cameras and provides reliable support for still and video camera work. It makes a good sturdy walking stick when needed. It is light weight, compact and I appreciate only having to make two height adjustments instead of four with other monopods.

Great quality product and it has been an excellent addition to our production equipment. We have used it with the GoPro to capture an arial shot of some students dancing to create a music video. It is durable and efficient for quick set up and take down.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):

Lightweight and sturdy, two very important features in a monopod, and this has both. The locks seem well constructed, and an allen wrench is included to make any adjustments, should the become a little loose. I added the same ball head that I have on my tripod so attaching my camera and/or lens to this is fast and simple.

I wanted a monopod to help me reduce camera shake. I like the light weight of the monopod, the quick release, and the adjustments controls on the leg. I got the Manfrotto 234RC head to go with the monopod. I am a amateur photographer (retired) and this combo works for me.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):

I love this monopod. I tried it out this weekend and found I used it for almost every shot I took. From World Cup luge time trials at night to fireworks over the lake to telephoto shots in cloudy lighting while hiking. I couldn't ask for a better experience. I used this with the 234RC head and loved the ability to pop my cameras on and off with ease.

I've used compact monopods with 3 adjustment leavers and I much prefer having only 2 like this monopod. It's quick to set up and easy to transport.

This works really nicely with my Blackmagic Pocket cam. The rig remains light, but I can get nice steady shots with minimal set up time. Lightweight but solid, and the grip feels good in your hand.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):

I accidentally bought 2 of these monopods and I'm glad I made that mistake. Primarily used on 7D w/h grip + 300mm 2.8 (aprox 8lbs pay load). Other uses for high angled wide shots. I'm 6'2" and its a good hight for me. I've used it with a 400mm 2.8 versions 1 (is) + 2, 500mm 4.0 II and 600mm 4.0 II. It held up the weight of all of them attached to a 1dX

Pros: Very versatile, Light weight, small footprint (with regards to attaching onto my photography back pack) sturdy and durable to a point- (a whole lot more durable than most other sub $50 monopods). For an active shooter like myself, the aluminium can take a good beating.

Within 6 months of using the 2 monopods I've encountered several flaws. on both the closing mechanism gets loose (Manfrotto supplies a tool to counter this. walk with this tool in your gear bag). The same closing mechanism is the weakest part of the product. I stepped on one of my pods. it snapped at the closing mechanism. Spare parts for this closing mechanism cannot be easily sought. I'm buying a twist Oben to replace the broken Manfrotto.
When I used this pod on the beach, i went in knee high water, sand got into the closing mechanism and "froze" it up. Took me some good elbow grease to wash it out. I don't know if the twist versions can handle this better but if your photography takes you there, be aware.

Some good advice a B+H rep gave me which has stuck with me since whenever I buy almost anything: "More moving/complex a part is, the better chance of it getting broken"- Compare the closing mechanism to the twist ones available.

Over all.. a good back up monopod... I feel the need to invest in a more expensive monopod to use as my work horse, and keep this one as a reliable back up.

For the price and simplicity, this monopod is good. Having said that, there is nothing special about it at all. I work with a 5D Mk3 and C100 and when I took this out for run and gun job, it felt very cheap to me. Well it is, but inexpensive things don't always feel so flimsy. I also have a Manfrotto 561BDHV-1 and even though it's much pricier, it really operates better and I'm able to get a little more creative.

I bought this to use for weddings and it's perfect. It allows you to move in a way that tripods don't. Just enough camera movement that it isn't distracting to the viewer and is a nice change of pace when paired with tripod shots.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):

Good Manfrotto quality you would expect. I wouldn't call this a "heavy duty" monopod, but at the same time, I don't see myself breaking this during commercial use. It's lightweight, sturdy and folds fast. Not to mention the price is right.

My only complain is that it's a bit short. I'm 5'11" and I find myself slightly hunched over even at the maximum height.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):

Compact, light weight, sturdy, easy to open and easy to collapse. High enough for this 6'1" photographer but collapses to only 24". Perfect for this low light photographer who captures images handheld to 1/8 second. With this monopod I can get to 1 second before needing a tripod. Also sturdy enough to support the NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom and that makes it much easier when shooting night sports.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):

Great bang for the buck: sturdy & well built, not too heavy, with plenty of height when combined with camera. The only negative, the flimsy strap loosens easily - I just removed it. Placed a 496RC2 ballhead on it - perfect fit! The clamps were a bit stiff, but a plastic adjustment tool is included.
