I am an ameteur photographer, and I bought this lens to have something that covered the 18mm to 200mm range, without having to constantly change lenses. First of all, I shoot a Nikon D3000, and this lens works perfectly with my camera. For the price, this lens cannot be beat. I've already taken several hundred pictures, and put this lens through the paces. I've taken shots in the morning, blazing bright day, evening, and astrophotos at night. Through it all, this lens has proven consistent.

I did a lot of research on this lens before buying it. The three biggest things I saw negatively against it was the focus, image stablization, and barrel drift. Well, either my lens is speacial or those are not factors at all.

The focus is quick and crisp. I can go from macro focusing to long distance focusing in a snap, and the lens doesn't "hunt" for a proper focus. Even focusing on the bright star Sirius proved no problem for the lens...it gave a quick and pin-point focus, without the hunting problems of my Sigma (and sometimes my Nikon) lens. Also to note, the focus is very quiet...a lot quieter than my Sigma lens and quite possibly quieter than my Nikon lens.

Another issue I saw in my research was the image stablization. I do not by any means have the world's steadiest hands. That's why I can't draw! However, from the 18mm to the 100mm range I have not found IS to be any problem what so ever. I have always had a general rule of thumb that when I go above 100mm I always put it on a tripod. No questions asked. So, obviously above 100mm sitting on my heavy duty tripod there was absolutely no problem with the IS. To test the 18 - 100 range, I photographed all sorts of things like jewelry, my out of control children and much more...again, no IS issues to note what so ever.

The last issue was barrel drift. I conducted a total of 4 runs, two in manual focus and two in auto focus. In each run, I took a bunch of photos at each of the focal length positions. On the first two run throughs, I had the camera pointed 90 degrees down. On the second two run throughs I had the camera pointed 90 degrees up. Not once did I get any drift from the barrel.

As far as quality of images, I have not found anything wrong with the quality. It seems consistent from the very center all the way to the edges. Colors are very good and sharpness is very good. Again, I'm not a pro so I may miss small quality issues that a pro would see. However, I've gotten compliments on my photos and I have yet to see any issues with the quality.

In summary, if you want a quality lens for a low price this is the lens you want. If you want an all purpose landscape to portrait and more lens for a great price this is the only lens you want.

Recently took this lens on a trip and put about 2000 clicks thru it. This lens is NOT a pro lens if that is what you are looking for then do not purchase this item. It is however a very nice general shooting lens with decent clarity. Auto focus is a bit slow. This functions best in Mid light conditions and decently in low light. Again not a pro lens but I will take it with me on non work trips.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Nikon Digital SLR:

Bought this lens to replace the 18-55mm & 55-200mm Nikon lenses included with our D40. Nice to have the versatility of both without having the hassle of changing lens.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Nikon Digital SLR:

This is a great lens for the money. It offers a better zoom than the standard 18 to 50 lens that comes with most Nikon SLR cameras. The only draw back is, that there is not an anti vibration function on this lens. So, you must have a steady hand to use it.

This lens is perfect for me: an avid photographer but a non-professional. The range (18-200) is great. The size and weight are perfect for me. Since I am approaching past middle age and suffer from arthritis in my hands, that is important. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants the zoom function while keeping the 18-35 range for your photos.

I've been looking for an all-in-one lens like this for some time when I'm shooting family photos and for spots when I do some action pics at the school where i work. Just when you thing you need a wide lens my big telephoto was there and when I needed the big zoom I had the wide angle on. This lens allows me to have the right focal lengths when I need it to capture all those million dollar middle school smiles.

I purchased the Tamron 18-200 macro lens to replace the original Nikon lens which was damaged during a Desert outing. Tamron functions well, can't complain about the price either. I keep having to remind myself to keep my fingers off the focus ring, while in auto focus mode.

Bought this lens to cover the full range for vacation and general family shooting. The wide angle makes it easy to get those tight indoor shots and the 200mm zoom works well for longer distance close up. I shot a lot of nature, architectural, and family snapshots over the last couple of months and have loved the flexibility. It is also right at 3" which gets me into concerts and other events that have the 3" lens limitation.

Honestly, i bought this with a low expectation due to the price gap between this and the Nikkor. But i'm very pleased with how it's performing so far. The focus is quite fast and the images come out fairly clear. Also, it's very versatile.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Nikon Digital SLR:

I was looking for a versatile lens to take on an upcoming trip. Although my camera bag has a number of faster lenses which I use most often, this lens will serve the purpose by being a wide range zoom that will meet my needs in most situations. I would have liked a lens that is one f-stop faster, but it wasn't worth the additional cost for the few times per year that I will be using this one. I have several Tamron lenses and have always found them to be well made and produce excellent results.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Nikon Digital SLR:

I am very pleased with this lens. I use it with my Nikon D5100 on professional shoots and get great results. This lens has not left my camera since I bought it. It offers a great range (18-200mm) and using the auto focus is very quick, especially in good lighting conditions. The drawback is the aperture (3.5-6.3) which goes up with zoom rather quickly, however for this price point, the deal can't be beat. I would recommend to anyone, professional or amateur.
