I actually got this lens immediately after shooting a wedding on the Canon 24-70 2.8 and with another professional with this one. I liked both...With that, I feel that Canon may have a slight edge on the optic side BUT this lense is just as good for what it's for...24-70. This is my reception lens, so it's what I have on the camera while walking in crowds and such. Since it's shorter (and just as sturdy as the Canon one) I chose it.

I use this lense with Canon 700D. I detected a slight front-focus and I think I may have to ask for front-focus correction. Besides that, there are other peculiarities. If you shoot with fully open aperture of f2,8 than only focal lengh 24-35mm preserves the desired sharpness in the focus area. If you want to shoot at focal lengh of 50mm - better to use aperture of f3.2 - 4.0, while with the focal lengh of 70mm - I would recommend aperture of f4.0 or smaller. The range of working aperture f-number at all focal lenghs is f4-14 (with f16 the sharpness is already not ideal). Another thing, the speed of auto-focus. It is not as fast as I wished it were, which makes it difficult to take dynamic pictures of kids and pets. In general it is not a bad lense for travelling, since it allows you to shoot decent landscapes and portraits, but you have to learn how to work with its peculiarities.

It's either this or the L-Series for twice the money. Side-by-side, the L-Series is slightly better, but with editing tools in Premiere, it is easy to get that small amount of quality back. So far it seems extremely reliable and has done well for me.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I am a professional photographer and while on a recent assignment, my 12 year-old Sigma EX 24-70 finally gave out on me. It was the first high-quality lens I'd ever bought and I got many years and many thousands of great shots out of it, including many magazine covers. This time around I thought maybe I'd spring for the Canon version but just couldn't justify the $1K difference in price. So I ordered the newest version of my old favorite.

It arrived literally within the last hour and after about 30-40 shots I already felt compelled to write this review. My initial 10-12 shots were front focusing BAD which made me question my decision. I then remembered the micro-focus adjustment in my Canon 7D. Upon checking, it was set to a -5 from my old 24-70. I reset it and, voila, instantly perfect shots. Exactly in focus. Not only is the focus quick and accurate, the new smaller size and feel compared to the previous version is great.

While photography isn't my primary source of income it does bring in significant revenue. But even if it was my sole means of making a living, I would not hesitate to purchase Sigma again. And I will be adding more Sigma's to my collection, which already has the EX 70-200 2.8. If you are like me and are on the fence between the Sigma and the Canon, I can STRONGLY recommend this lens. Perhaps the Canon has the edge in some areas, but I don't know what they are as this lens is already giving me what I want and more. I look forward to many more years and many more shots from this fine piece of glass.

My last Sigma 24-70 2.8 was my companion to dozens of trips and all around lenses in severs camera bodies I has.. but has died suddenly after 10 years. As I loved the previous one and canon 2.8 is not for my pocket.. Sigma was my choice again and the photos are looking better than with the previous versio .

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I switched from the stabilized Tamron 24-70 to this lense a few months ago (the Tamron was just a nightmare). I do not regret it, it is lighter, the autofocus is much faster and much more accurate. However take care, it is a bit soft when you are in the 24-35 mm range between 2.8 and 3.5, which can be a problem if you do a lot of night street photography like me. I still believe it should be your choice if you can't afford a Canon L series.

After reding and reading reviews and watching youtube reviews I trade it for the 16-35 2.8 Canon and I can not be more happy, I saved 1,000 going with sigma and not the L lens from Canon and honestrly the difference if any is minimal, I know is not weather sealed but honestly how many times do you shut on bad weather conditions. Resuming I am very happy with the purchase and Sigma lens now are on my radar for future purchases.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I'm returning this lens as it fails to perform as I had expected.

Okay, that said, here are the good features: It's a beautiful lens, both in design and finish. And it's built like a tank. And you will get good results when you close down the aperture.

But...I shoot portraits and weddings and I bought this lens as an economical alternative to the Canon version. And remember although it's less, it's still a pricey lens and for that much money I expect a solid performance. But at 2.8 the lens I received was way too soft to be acceptable and there was substantial vignetting until I hit 5.6. The vignetting might be correctable in Lightroom but do I want to correct so many images due to a lens design fault?

I need to consistently produce images with "wow" factor and not out of focus shots that look like they were shot by a first time shooter.

This lens is affordable and reliable. I was lucky enough to be able to use this lens from the stockroom at the photo program I'm in, before I purchased my own. Crisp, sharp and flawless images! I plan on purchasing more sigma lenses in the near future.

I am very pleased with this lens. The IQ is outstanding and so is the spot on colors. Perfect on my 6D and together, I am getting outstanding low light images and in some cases no flash is needed. Its built like a tank and the only drawback is the weight but I can handle it for the IQ I am getting.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

Using this lens for portrait photography has been great. The focus can get a little soft when fully open at 2.8 and focal length 70mm, but it is just how you use it. I find it often gives just enough softness to enhance the look of my portrait photography. Not too harsh on the skin. Other focal lengths are totally crisp at wide open, but stopping down with my 5D can make this lens just as sharp as Canon L series, which is saying something great!

The focus ring is barely a quarter turn so punching in is highly recommended to get that perfect sharp focus, but it can be a good thing for run and gun video, get to that focus really fast even if its not totally perfect.

Great depth of field, for the price its as good as it gets.

I've had this lens now for two years and I have nothing but positives to say about it. I use it with my 5D III, my 50D, my A7R and NEX 7 (with the Metabones adapter) and even with my BMPCC (also with Metabones). Very sharp, even fully open and amazing stopped down, good contrast, if not quite to Zeiss levels and excellent color. It focuses quickly and fairly, if not super, quietly; although I mostly shoot landscape and I use an external mic for video so this is not a big issue for me.

Highly, highly recommended, especially when you consider the price of the Canon L that is maybe marginally better in the lab, but to my eye indistinguishable in real terms.
