I actually got this lens immediately after shooting a wedding on the Canon 24-70 2.8 and with another professional with this one. I liked both...With that, I feel that Canon may have a slight edge on the optic side BUT this lense is just as good for what it's for...24-70. This is my reception lens, so it's what I have on the camera while walking in crowds and such. Since it's shorter (and just as sturdy as the Canon one) I chose it.

I use this lense with Canon 700D. I detected a slight front-focus and I think I may have to ask for front-focus correction. Besides that, there are other peculiarities. If you shoot with fully open aperture of f2,8 than only focal lengh 24-35mm preserves the desired sharpness in the focus area. If you want to shoot at focal lengh of 50mm - better to use aperture of f3.2 - 4.0, while with the focal lengh of 70mm - I would recommend aperture of f4.0 or smaller. The range of working aperture f-number at all focal lenghs is f4-14 (with f16 the sharpness is already not ideal). Another thing, the speed of auto-focus. It is not as fast as I wished it were, which makes it difficult to take dynamic pictures of kids and pets. In general it is not a bad lense for travelling, since it allows you to shoot decent landscapes and portraits, but you have to learn how to work with its peculiarities.

Loved the product. The only relative negative thing I can add, is that it is heavier than I thought. But the truth is that it is worth that extra weight.

I am very pleased with this lens. The IQ is outstanding and so is the spot on colors. Perfect on my 6D and together, I am getting outstanding low light images and in some cases no flash is needed. Its built like a tank and the only drawback is the weight but I can handle it for the IQ I am getting.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

Using this lens for portrait photography has been great. The focus can get a little soft when fully open at 2.8 and focal length 70mm, but it is just how you use it. I find it often gives just enough softness to enhance the look of my portrait photography. Not too harsh on the skin. Other focal lengths are totally crisp at wide open, but stopping down with my 5D can make this lens just as sharp as Canon L series, which is saying something great!

The focus ring is barely a quarter turn so punching in is highly recommended to get that perfect sharp focus, but it can be a good thing for run and gun video, get to that focus really fast even if its not totally perfect.

Great depth of field, for the price its as good as it gets.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I've had this lens now for two years and I have nothing but positives to say about it. I use it with my 5D III, my 50D, my A7R and NEX 7 (with the Metabones adapter) and even with my BMPCC (also with Metabones). Very sharp, even fully open and amazing stopped down, good contrast, if not quite to Zeiss levels and excellent color. It focuses quickly and fairly, if not super, quietly; although I mostly shoot landscape and I use an external mic for video so this is not a big issue for me.

Highly, highly recommended, especially when you consider the price of the Canon L that is maybe marginally better in the lab, but to my eye indistinguishable in real terms.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

This is the first (and last) Sigma lens that I have bought. Thought I would take a chance with Sigma instead of purchasing a Canon L lens to save a few hundred bucks, and deeply regret it. Really wanted to love this lens as it was my first upgraded lens from my kit lens. The autofocus is fairly fast, but very loud and is not ideal for videos. Focus was sometimes inaccurate. Even with an external microphone mounted on top of the camera, I could still here it focusing sometimes. The lens sometimes makes a high pitched squeaking noise when autofocusing after not being used for a while. Maybe I just got a lemon. I find the images to be soft, and not sharp as other reviewers are suggesting. The lens hood doesn't give a solid click when getting into place, but you can soon become accustomed to this. It is a shame that this lens, optically, doesn't perform. The build quality is excellent, but unfortunately, that doesn't change the optics of this lens. It is nice that Sigma includes a bag and a lens hood with the lens unlike Canon. I would recommend spending a few hundred dollars extra and purchasing a Canon lens.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I recently have gotten back into photography after a long layoff. I purchased last year an EOS 70D camera. It came with two kit lenses. So over the past year I have replaced/added three new lenses. I purchased this lens as I wanted to replace the kit 18-55. This lens is fantastic across the entire range. The 2.8 gives me great softness and bokeh when trying to get those "dreamy" shots. Is it a little heavy? A little, but there is a lot of glass here with it's 82mm front end there. But using it as a walk around lens when I was at the Air and Space museum was no problem. I took it with me to a great plane watching spot and both ends the pictures were sharp.

What a beauty. I have longed for this lens for a while now. I am a budding photo enthusiast and started with my canon dslr and got a chance to move up slowly. Love this lens and the quality of pictures i could make out of it.
Worth every penny. My first shoot was in a dark audiotorium of a dance performance of my kid and i could take amazing pictures with the low aperture.

OK I may be a little premature, I have used this officially once. During a snow storm, with super bright light, with moving subjects, for video. I loved it ... wow ... the crisp shots we got came out of this lens despite the environmental conditions, snow reflections, moving snow, etc. It maintained great focus. Got some great video, very happy. Planning to get the 35mm and 50mm art glass next, as well as probably the 150-600mm sports lens.

Bought this lens to use for both video and photo and I can't find one good thing about it. I returned it almost immediately it was that bad. It had major front focus issues and even with using my cameras AF Micro Adjustments I found the focus to be softer than I even thought was possible. I can take better photos with my iPhone. Very disappointed and now I have trust issues with reviews on lenses.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I'm using this lens primarily for video work with our Cannon 7D. It is smooth and is allowing for a great combination of close and wide shots without distortion without having to move the camera.

This is a great lens for the price. Good for documentary work on the fly and for landscapes. Also a great starting lens for beginners looking to build their kit. Haven't had any problems thus far.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I've rented this lens a couple of times for events in which I cannot physically get closer to the action. Otherwise, I would use my Zeiss 50mm f1.4. I'm a big believer in primes but zooms definitely have their purpose. And the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 IF EX DG HSM is a lens that could lure a primes fanatic! There are two things that impress me most about this lens:* Sharpness* ContrastYou just can't beat a good prime for sharpness. But the Sigma is so amazing. I can't notice the difference. The detail in the smallest of items in an image is terrific. When you see the droplets of a splash in the frame, you can easily see the shape, texture and where the light is shining on the droplet. That's fantastic resolution. With many lenses, images look a bit washed out or too dark across the board. But if I get the exposure right, color all looks consistent and vibrant with this lens. It makes my job so much easier if I don't have to make color adjustments to an image after an event. Images can go right out as is!My 5D MKII has horrible AF. So judging it's AF performance. Even so, I think the lens focuses extremely fast. I usually prefer MF even with action events. In that respect, I wish the focus throw was a little longer. It makes it easier to tune sharpness. But I can't expect that when a lens is geared for AF.I was blown away the first time I rented this lens and the second time still got me excited. That it handles the megapixels of my Canon 5D MKII is a good thing. This is certainly on my short-list for lens to purchase. Especially since I make money with it. And on the subject of money.. It's a fantastic value! I can't imagine the Canon version being 2.5x better than the Sigma. Weather sealing is a good thing and if you're on the beach or in shady weather. But I'm not. From what I know, putting in a lens for maintenance would cost around $250. Which is still a bargain instead of paying for the Canon. The only shocker is the size and weight of the lens. I'm just not used to a zoom lens. My Zeiss 50mm is about a third of the size and weight. I usually have a wrist strap to my camera and with the 50mm, I can carry it all day. No problem. With the Sigma, my arm is definitely getting tired after 3 or 4 hours. But attached with a Black Rapid strap, you don't notice the weight. It feels durable even though it's made of plastic.I don't think I'll rent the lens again. It's a great performing, money-making lens and a great value. After three or four events, the lens will have already paid for itself.I love when a lens get's me really excited to shoot!
