Comments about O'Reilly Digital Media Book: The Nikon Creative Lighting System: Using the SB-600, SB-800, SB-900, and R1C1 Flashes by Mike Hagen:

You almost need this book to understand the Nikon Creative Lighting System. But large numbers of pages are product-specific, so what you really get is 50 or 60 critical pages for [$]. Worth it, but expensive!

Comments about O'Reilly Digital Media Book: The Nikon Creative Lighting System: Using the SB-600, SB-800, SB-900, and R1C1 Flashes by Mike Hagen:

I wanted a book that would explain the details of the CLS system. I loved this book, in fact the information in the book was so detailed that after reading the book I purchased a new SB-900 flash to be the center piece of my new lighting system. I received the flash, set it up with my SB-600 as a slave and started shooting. In my opinion everyone interested in flash lighting should have this book on their bookshelf.

I bought this at the same time as I bought my Nikon SB900, and it was definitely good help.
It explains in a easy-to-understand way the basics of flash photography, and also more importantly how to use your flash in every way thinkable.
