I've had the Flex and TT1 for almost 2 years now and they are wonderful. I just purchased my second Flex for a concert shoot since it was going to be an extremely dark venue. Worked great!

The only reason I took off a star is because the attachment feet that slide into the hotshoe are made of plastic and seem to be fairly weak. They haven't broke yet, but I REALLY wish that for the cost of these, they would have made them metal to reduce the risk of snapping them off during a shoot. Just be cautious not to hit them on anything while attached to your camera.

Overall, a fantastic product. Very reliable. I might have to get a controller to control the different groups now too.

I found these to be very difficult. I am a professional and know what I am doing. I am using a D3s and sb 900's off camera. These things work half the time. You have to turn the equipment on in a certain order, and if you make any changes in camera or on the flash, you have to go through the whole process again. They are great in theory, I just expected pocket wizard to make them more user friendly and reliable before releasing them on the market. Unless there is a firmware upgrade soon I will be getting rid of mine. And I know several other professionals in the same boat. I really do not understand how they got such good ratings by so many others.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

This system is super easy to use, just be sure to read the instructions to update the Firmware prior to the first use (very easy) and NOTE the ORDER in which everything much be switched on for the units to properly function. Basically it's POWER ON from the TOP DOWN: Flash, then "radio," then camera. All of this is outlined on the PocketWizard site QUICK GUIDE if you choose to check it out in advance, along with other easy to understand, informative details. The PocketWizard FlexTT5 Tranceiver and Mini TT1 Transmitter are everything they are advertised to be. Designed specifically for Nikon (there is a Canon version as well), they are compact in size, easy to use and the remote activation will transform your flash photography. I did a great deal of research to find the right transmitter and receiver for my Nikon D90, D600 and SB-910 & SB-700 flash units. This was the right choice. There are less expensive models out there but I am 100% pleased with this Pocket Wizard system and feel it was well worth the price.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

I deployed to a very hot and humid remote jungle location recently with some other photographers, to do some swimwear shots and the triggers I chose were these. These were my very first wireless triggers, I was super excited to have a chance to put them into action. The first day it was great, they fired with no effort from 10-20 feet away. The following days they increasingly misfired despite changing channels and swapping batteries, by the end I was experiencing 60+ percent failures to trigger my studio head from as close as 2-3 feet.I borrowed a friend's Paul Buff triggers, never misfired, not even once. People who were using Profoto also commented they had no issues either. When you pay 3k+ just to be at a tropical location to take photos of some of the most beautiful women in the world and your lights don't fire, that's an automatic deal breaker. I had backup units, and even those had similar problems. Needless to say I was pretty angry.I am now looking into alternatives, Phottix/Profoto/Elinchrom/P-buff etc. I will not buy any more P.W. products, money is time and I dont have enough of either to deal with products that aren't reliable. The studio head worked fine, the battery system I used did as well, but the triggers were no good.

I use this transceiver mounted on top of my monopod placing the speed light in the hot shoe of the transceiver. This allows me to have my assistant put the light wherever I need it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because pairing the device with the Mini TT1 needs to be done in a certain order and sometimes it takes a few attempts. Other than than that, it worked every time and consistently no matter where I put it.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

Wireless Manual Power Control flash is the best way to shoot and with the TT5 and AC3 on camera, manual flash power
can be adjusted at the camera.
There's no need to stress when manual power needs changing. No need to hike around to all of the lights.
And with the TT5 on camera, the camera and lights can be triggered together with a Sekonic Light Meter.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

These work great when they are setup correctly i'm finding, the challenge is setting them up correctly.
The setup is their major caveat.

          Pros:
Control TL power tracking is fantastic and makes it simple to do quick automated snaps of product photos with off camera flash.
Uses commonly available rechargeable batteries like the wonderful Eneloope that BH stocks.

          Cons:
Some if not all speed lights do not work in full Auto mode (Sb-910 is unresponsive in any other mode than plain TTL or manual.)
Paul buff lights are wonderful with these, but you can't use the P-buff controller with these. PW does not have a decent controller (I dislike the AC3).

No problems with my Nikon D-800. Works as if the flash was on the camera body. To take full advantage of this product you should get the AC-3 zone controller. No misfires so far. Does the HSS over 1/250s. I'm triggering with the Mini TT1.

The PocketWizard FlexTT5 opens up a whole new world of control for my Nikon digital set up. I can now use multiple flashes off camera. I have full control of each of 3 flash groups from the top of my camera (with the MiniTT1 and AC3 ZoneController). The flashes no longer have to be line of sight. I can use any shutter speed on the dial. All of the camera functions controlling the flash still work. Light is what is recorded by a camera. Now, thanks to the PocketWizard and Nikon fabulous flashes I now truly control the light.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

As a Strobist disciple, I debated long and hard about which radio triggers to go with after finally getting my flash off camera and realizing the limitations of IR/slave activation. I considered the PlusIII's, Poppers and Phottix, and finally decided on some TT5's and the TT1 (and a Plus III for an old SB28.)

Out of the box and updated, every piece worked like a charm. After several weeks of use, not one problem yet with misfire or fail. I am thrilled with the versatility.

I can understand the concerns with durability/ruggedness, but with reasonable care I don't see these units as any less forgiving than any other piece of photographic gear.

Others have recommended using a TT5 on the camera in place of the TT1 for versatility and battery consistency. I would suggest the opposite- the TT1 is sleek and low profile (just looks better on the camera.) The TT1 makes a great, easy to conceal remote camera trigger (with a PlusIII or TT5 on the camera.) The battery lasts far longer than AA's, and you can carry a 10 year supply in the space of 4 AA's. No big deal.

In spite of the fact that I find myself shooting in manual rather than TTL most of the time, I'm very happy I went with the TT5 option instead of straight manual triggers. I also purchased the AC3 zone controller, which has been great, again for manual settings.

If you are agonizing over the purchase, just do it. I wish I had pulled the trigger (pardon the pun) a long time ago. Totally worth it!

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:
