Works exactly as advertised. Amazing flexibility--can do either TTL or manual flash with extroardinary results.

I read most of these reviews and also reviews of similar products from the same manufacturer before purchasing the unit. I paid close attention to those reviews where people said they were disappointed and returned it. I also watched relevant online tutorials from PocketWizard before making my purchase, so that when I did buy I was aware of some idiosyncracies that I would need to address when using it (e.g. the need to take a calibration shot).

I have had no problems: I turn the equipment on in the order they suggested and am aware that I can bring the camera with the transmitting Mini TT1 too close to the receiving Flex. When I use fresh batteries and pay attention to those two things the flash fires 100% of the time.

Getting the flash off the camera has taken my photography to the next level. One of the first photos I took with the Flex/Mini combo was one of those reviled, derided bathroom selfies. I posted it on Facebook and have since done 5 paid photo shoots for people who saw that profile pic and who also needed to update their head shots for work.

I had considered the entry-level model but wanted the convenience of completely wire-free setup and the ability to control the flash settings from the camera using the AC3 Controller. I will get the entry level ones for adding a second and third light, as I have two vintage flashes which can be used in manual mode with PocketWizard triggers as long as I use a Wein Safe-Sync with them.

I am 100% satisfied with my purchase, and more than 100% satisfied with the relationship I am developing with B&H.

About the photo I have attached: with the exception of the shadow off to the right, I think that's an amazing result for a first attempt at such a shot using only one flash and a 45" umbrella.

I found these to be very difficult. I am a professional and know what I am doing. I am using a D3s and sb 900's off camera. These things work half the time. You have to turn the equipment on in a certain order, and if you make any changes in camera or on the flash, you have to go through the whole process again. They are great in theory, I just expected pocket wizard to make them more user friendly and reliable before releasing them on the market. Unless there is a firmware upgrade soon I will be getting rid of mine. And I know several other professionals in the same boat. I really do not understand how they got such good ratings by so many others.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

I use this transceiver mounted on top of my monopod placing the speed light in the hot shoe of the transceiver. This allows me to have my assistant put the light wherever I need it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because pairing the device with the Mini TT1 needs to be done in a certain order and sometimes it takes a few attempts. Other than than that, it worked every time and consistently no matter where I put it.

    Wireless Manual Power Control

    By NikonPilot

    from USA

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

Wireless Manual Power Control flash is the best way to shoot and with the TT5 and AC3 on camera, manual flash power
can be adjusted at the camera.
There's no need to stress when manual power needs changing. No need to hike around to all of the lights.
And with the TT5 on camera, the camera and lights can be triggered together with a Sekonic Light Meter.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

These work great when they are setup correctly i'm finding, the challenge is setting them up correctly.
The setup is their major caveat.

      Pros:
Control TL power tracking is fantastic and makes it simple to do quick automated snaps of product photos with off camera flash.
Uses commonly available rechargeable batteries like the wonderful Eneloope that BH stocks.

      Cons:
Some if not all speed lights do not work in full Auto mode (Sb-910 is unresponsive in any other mode than plain TTL or manual.)
Paul buff lights are wonderful with these, but you can't use the P-buff controller with these. PW does not have a decent controller (I dislike the AC3).

No problems with my Nikon D-800. Works as if the flash was on the camera body. To take full advantage of this product you should get the AC-3 zone controller. No misfires so far. Does the HSS over 1/250s. I'm triggering with the Mini TT1.

The PocketWizard FlexTT5 opens up a whole new world of control for my Nikon digital set up. I can now use multiple flashes off camera. I have full control of each of 3 flash groups from the top of my camera (with the MiniTT1 and AC3 ZoneController). The flashes no longer have to be line of sight. I can use any shutter speed on the dial. All of the camera functions controlling the flash still work. Light is what is recorded by a camera. Now, thanks to the PocketWizard and Nikon fabulous flashes I now truly control the light.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

As a Strobist disciple, I debated long and hard about which radio triggers to go with after finally getting my flash off camera and realizing the limitations of IR/slave activation. I considered the PlusIII's, Poppers and Phottix, and finally decided on some TT5's and the TT1 (and a Plus III for an old SB28.)

Out of the box and updated, every piece worked like a charm. After several weeks of use, not one problem yet with misfire or fail. I am thrilled with the versatility.

I can understand the concerns with durability/ruggedness, but with reasonable care I don't see these units as any less forgiving than any other piece of photographic gear.

Others have recommended using a TT5 on the camera in place of the TT1 for versatility and battery consistency. I would suggest the opposite- the TT1 is sleek and low profile (just looks better on the camera.) The TT1 makes a great, easy to conceal remote camera trigger (with a PlusIII or TT5 on the camera.) The battery lasts far longer than AA's, and you can carry a 10 year supply in the space of 4 AA's. No big deal.

In spite of the fact that I find myself shooting in manual rather than TTL most of the time, I'm very happy I went with the TT5 option instead of straight manual triggers. I also purchased the AC3 zone controller, which has been great, again for manual settings.

If you are agonizing over the purchase, just do it. I wish I had pulled the trigger (pardon the pun) a long time ago. Totally worth it!

I use the PW Flex units for wedding/general portrait work, and they are very reliable. Currently I am using 4 tt5s, 2 minis, and 2 zone controllers.

I've had 0 problems with any pocket wizard products, and have been using them daily for 3 years. I couldn't ask for a better product.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

I've had the Flex and TT1 for almost 2 years now and they are wonderful. I just purchased my second Flex for a concert shoot since it was going to be an extremely dark venue. Worked great!

The only reason I took off a star is because the attachment feet that slide into the hotshoe are made of plastic and seem to be fairly weak. They haven't broke yet, but I REALLY wish that for the cost of these, they would have made them metal to reduce the risk of snapping them off during a shoot. Just be cautious not to hit them on anything while attached to your camera.

Overall, a fantastic product. Very reliable. I might have to get a controller to control the different groups now too.

I bought this for the hypersync capabilities, and it does just that. Wanted it to work with my pluslll units as well, which is does. The software utility to set up the unit takes some getting used to to find the right settings you need. I find it a slight inconvenience to have to need a computer to reprogram the device.

Hands down, Pocket Wizards set the standard for Radio Flash Triggers. This is no exception when it comes to the FlexTT5. It handles all the data from the TTL system perfectly. The range is incredible and the operation is flawless. I would buy more of these when i get additional flash units.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

I have a Nikon D5200. This unit is made for Nikon. It does what it says it does, accurately, effortless and reliable. I have three others Pocketwizards, since 2002 and they never stopped working. My new FlexTT5 works with the old units a hitch.I could use a better software design, but that is OK. Not a major problem.
