I've had the Flex and TT1 for almost 2 years now and they are wonderful. I just purchased my second Flex for a concert shoot since it was going to be an extremely dark venue. Worked great!

The only reason I took off a star is because the attachment feet that slide into the hotshoe are made of plastic and seem to be fairly weak. They haven't broke yet, but I REALLY wish that for the cost of these, they would have made them metal to reduce the risk of snapping them off during a shoot. Just be cautious not to hit them on anything while attached to your camera.

Overall, a fantastic product. Very reliable. I might have to get a controller to control the different groups now too.

I found these to be very difficult. I am a professional and know what I am doing. I am using a D3s and sb 900's off camera. These things work half the time. You have to turn the equipment on in a certain order, and if you make any changes in camera or on the flash, you have to go through the whole process again. They are great in theory, I just expected pocket wizard to make them more user friendly and reliable before releasing them on the market. Unless there is a firmware upgrade soon I will be getting rid of mine. And I know several other professionals in the same boat. I really do not understand how they got such good ratings by so many others.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

If using manual flash control instead of TTL, definitely use the software to change to basic trigger settings. Within any household room, I experience very good response, even not in direct line of site.

I did a test outdoors and with the flashes behind stone faced columns, receivers were intermittently missing after 25-30 feet, but with line of site and a zoom lens, I got out to ~80 feet away before I got mixed results. For reasonably short distances and not being blocked by too high density items, I expect these to work for my needs.

This range is a lot less than the stated 1200 feet specifications, but still pretty good. These are pricey, and only 80' line of site, so I only gave them 3 stars. I've not compared to others, but nice compact & low profile compared to others. You can use just one receiver for a group of flashes if the others are light-triggered slaves, so lots of options.

Setup Notes: I have one mini-TT1 as a camera-top transmitter and three TT5 units set up as "basic trigger" only, using two Yongnuo YN560II flashes, and an old Minolta flash with a hot shoe converter, and they all work consistenly in manual setup.

I've not used any other radios before, so no point of comparison. I did have some issues correctly triggering from my camera until I used the software to set up as trigger only. I updated the firmware, which was easy and quick with the provided cables, and the software also allows you to configure some advance settings, which is where I set them for "basic trigger." I used them this way because I know it is not compatible with the TTL of my Nikon D5500 (yet).

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

So far so good. Does what I want, which is wireless, around corners, reliable shots, and compact. Great design for mounting on light stand or tripod, but using without stand, be aware it won't sit completely flat due to the shoe mount on its bottom. There are lots of options to accommodate this out there, so this is really not an issue. Super easy and fast firmware updates.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

The Flex TT5 from Pocket Wizard is an essential accessory when using multiple flash set-ups. It works by radio signals, not IR and therefore does not require line-of-sight between units. It works flawlessly with the Nikon SB-910 flash units. I own 4 of these units plus the Pocket Wizard Mini TT1 on the camera to file multiple flash units in the studio, outdoors, or anywhere on location. There are others on the market, but I believe these are the most reliable. Any questions? E-mail response from the company is fast and comprehensive. SHIPPING FROM B&H WAS FAST AND FREE AND THE PRICE WAS THE LOWEST.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

I love my PocketWizards. Even though I've switched from speedlights to studio strobes, I love the convenience of being able to not only trigger my lights remotely, but also to control the power remotely using either the AC3 zone controller or the built in functionality of my Sekonic L-478DR. If that were possible on their other triggers I'd be content, unfortunately this is the only way. I have no need for the ControlTL functionality, although it's nice to have for some. So I feel like I'm paying extra for a feature I don't use. That plus the the need to get an extra adapter to connect it to my strobes is why I knocked off 1 star.

This slave is reliable and rugged. Fires immediately and gives a nice, accurate TTL exposure. I've had this thing drop and it just shrugs. One thing I do want to alert everyone to is that if you're using this for a long and vigorous shoot, it can work its way off your camera's shoe and drop the flash. Yeah, that happened a couple times. Now, I'm vigilant. I was thinking about giving it just four stars for that, but I'm in a good mood.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

I use these mostly with my Nikon Speedlights and they work perfect, now. The * is getting them to work how you want them to. The Flex TT5 is very customize-able in how they flash, duration, etc. I have a few different bodies and they work different with each body. So I stick to using them with D610 since that is my primary body to shoot with. I have not got them to work with my AB800 consistently. I gave them 4 stars because this is my 3rd one. On location with my speedlights they rock!!! You can place your speedlight and control it from the camera no matter the distance or if you are in bright light. I shoot on the beach in summer time so they work perfect vs the IR built in. I would also recommend them if you need to place a remote flash somewhere. During weddings I may place one in the balcony and I can control from anywhere in the church.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

This system is super easy to use, just be sure to read the instructions to update the Firmware prior to the first use (very easy) and NOTE the ORDER in which everything much be switched on for the units to properly function. Basically it's POWER ON from the TOP DOWN: Flash, then "radio," then camera. All of this is outlined on the PocketWizard site QUICK GUIDE if you choose to check it out in advance, along with other easy to understand, informative details. The PocketWizard FlexTT5 Tranceiver and Mini TT1 Transmitter are everything they are advertised to be. Designed specifically for Nikon (there is a Canon version as well), they are compact in size, easy to use and the remote activation will transform your flash photography. I did a great deal of research to find the right transmitter and receiver for my Nikon D90, D600 and SB-910 & SB-700 flash units. This was the right choice. There are less expensive models out there but I am 100% pleased with this Pocket Wizard system and feel it was well worth the price.

Comments about PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave for Nikon i-TTL Flash System:

I deployed to a very hot and humid remote jungle location recently with some other photographers, to do some swimwear shots and the triggers I chose were these. These were my very first wireless triggers, I was super excited to have a chance to put them into action. The first day it was great, they fired with no effort from 10-20 feet away. The following days they increasingly misfired despite changing channels and swapping batteries, by the end I was experiencing 60+ percent failures to trigger my studio head from as close as 2-3 feet.I borrowed a friend's Paul Buff triggers, never misfired, not even once. People who were using Profoto also commented they had no issues either. When you pay 3k+ just to be at a tropical location to take photos of some of the most beautiful women in the world and your lights don't fire, that's an automatic deal breaker. I had backup units, and even those had similar problems. Needless to say I was pretty angry.I am now looking into alternatives, Phottix/Profoto/Elinchrom/P-buff etc. I will not buy any more P.W. products, money is time and I dont have enough of either to deal with products that aren't reliable. The studio head worked fine, the battery system I used did as well, but the triggers were no good.

The TT5 is great as I can adjust manual flash settings
                            at the camera.
The TT5 Nikonon camera allows me to fire the camera with flash with the PockWizard enabled Sekonic light meter.
