I use this for transferring files from my DSLR's CF card to my HP laptop. It is incredibly fast, much faster than I was hoping for. Could easily recommend it to anyone.

Only thing that frustrated me for a few minutes - I thought the black connector block on the reader's pins was a protector - I couldn't figure out how to get it off. It wasn't completely clear in the directions that you just push the card down onto it, it doesn't come off at all.

it is hard for me to comment on this reader because it doesn't work for my machine. The tongue or part of it that goes into my computer doesn't go in deep enough to touch the computer contacts so I never got to see how this works.

Comments about SIIG ExpressCard/54 CompactFlash Card Reader/Writer:

I bought it and a great Compact Flash Card for Windows Ready Boost, then set them up for Enhancements, Write Caching, and further Enhancements, so having to use the safley remove Icon is a mute point in my case.

Comments about SIIG ExpressCard/54 CompactFlash Card Reader/Writer:

My DSLR uses CF cards and I hate having to hook up and external reader to transfer images to my computer. This card fits perfectly into the ExpressCard slot on my laptop and sits flush with the outside. CF cards will stick out about 7mm.

I've never clocked its speed, but I can move entire shoots onto my computer in a less than a minute, which is fast enough for me. (I use Sandisk Extreme III cards, if that helps.)

Just a heads up- there is a black bar over the pins- leave that on- your memory card will push it down when you insert it. I pulled the protector off my first one and no matter how careful I was, I kept bending the pins.

This card comes with a disk with the necessary driver. Just pop it in, install the driver and you'll be good to go! Inserting the card is a bit futzy at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's no problem.

Comments about SIIG ExpressCard/54 CompactFlash Card Reader/Writer:

I'm an Electronics Technician experienced with small scale electronics. I have used CF cards for years now and had to re-solder or straighten pins, etc. on pocket readers, and other readers have failed me in time. This SIIG card has a mechanism on the connector that protects the pins until you are pressing a CF card in. I've seen this kind of socket before, but not in Compact Flash card readers until now.

    Why ExpressCard?

    (1) ConvenientL it's in the side of my computer and no cords so it's ready all the time.

    (2) FASTER: I measured 1.8 GB/Minute. That's 1,973,873,976 Bytes per minute. I want that new USB3.0 reader, but I'm keeping this ExpressCard until I see better. I don't expect USB to beat this very soon.

    Great compact flash reader

      • 20MBs write speed

Comments about SIIG ExpressCard/54 CompactFlash Card Reader/Writer:

[...] The express card itself is small and sits flush in the expresscard slot. However, with the compact flash card inserted, it protrudes out about 1 cm. Transfer speed after installation of the attached software disc is ~60MB/s read and 20 MB/s write. I used the Sandisk Extreme CF card rated for 60MB/s.

Comments about SIIG ExpressCard/54 CompactFlash Card Reader/Writer:

Had an old usb card reader for compact flash and it was painfully slow. This makes photo/movie transfer fast and easy. Only problem is it sticks out about 1/8 inch or so from my dell laptop, but I can live with that. Great for the bucks

Put it into your Express Card 54 slot, and leave it there. You now have a very high speed, built in CF card reader...for peanuts! It sure beats carrying an extra piece of equipment around, and trying to find it when you need it. And it is blazingly fast.

10 times faster than my first PCMCIA card. A joy to use when downloading pictures. At 25MB per pictures my 8gig card fills up fast and this helps me offload and get back to taking more.

I was looking for a faster way to download CF cards then the old slow USB 2.0 reader I had. This works great (need to install the driver from the internet) and is sooo fast.

Comments about SIIG ExpressCard/54 CompactFlash Card Reader/Writer:

The Good: Out of the box it transfers at a rate of 140% of what my USB card reader does. After I installed the driver, inside the packaging, it is 235%+ or from 10.3 MB/sec to 24.3MB/sec.

So do not forget to install the driver.

Small, easily fits into a pocket of my camera bag.

The Bad: The CF card is not real easy to insert but I think with experience that issue may go away.

There is not a case to keep it in meaning it could get dirt into the connectors.
