I have been looking for a bag smaller than my MP3 (Moose Peterson Bag 3) when I need to carry quite a bit of gear but not the real big gun. Backpack has been my primary bag of choice because of its balanced load which relief my backpain caused by shoulder bag's one sided dominant load.I have always liked Domke's philosophy and bag design. This bag allows me to pack my ready to go D4 w 70-200 F2.8g attached, and with another camera body at the bottom, plus room for flash and at least 4 lenses, and all the accessories such as batteries, filters, etc. ON top of it has room for a 17 inch laptop computer which my 15 inch mac fits nicely. The bag gives you reasonable balance between protection and ease of transportation. The tripod/monopod strapdown on the outisde is a very nice design and is well used.I also like those small velcro straps, I use them over the lens compartment to prevent accidental lens drop should I be so careless. Develop a good personal routine by doing the 'pointing' to ensure all zippers and velcro straps are in place before you hurl the bag on your back, you won't be sorry.Consider the load it can take, I have loaded every lense I own except for the biggest and carry it comfortably with both my hands free. One great bonus is the price, though it is a temporary price cut from $ to $, a whopping 60% discount with limited time offer, that makes this bag super valuable to me.Theoretically the interior dimension will permit a large lense (400mm) to be a stand alone (unattached to camera body) center storage position with everything be stuff around it.About the only complain I have is the rounded contour on top, which prevent more useful space to be had under the same dimension, and on the smaller one (Domke propack 418), it can't take a 15 inch but OK with 13 inch computer.

I needed something that holds all my photo gear plus hefty laptop in one bag for travel and transport to venues. This bag holds my 7D w/70-200mm attached, 18-135mm, go pro w/accessories, chargers, laptop charger, and small portable hd with a little room to spare. *BARELY* holds my Dell M6600 17.3" mobile workstation. Would work better with thinner laptop having rounded corners.
Fits easily in most overhead bins on aircraft, but had to keep it at my feet once on a regional jet. Spacious, but very uncomfortable when bag is fully loaded and heavy. Needs better harness with hip support to take some load off shoulders and back. Cannot wear it for long, was hard to wear at airports. Also had to take pack completely off to access anything.

Comments about Domke ProPack 418 Backpack:

I needed a VERY large bag for gear and I hate roller cases. I run and gun all day long and usually have my hands full so a backpack was a must. I can't believe it holds almost all my gear and snacks. It holds two DSLRs, like 4 lenses, all my batteries AND my wireless mics and Zoom H4N. It also holds a 16 inch laptop and comes with a handy laptop sleeve and rain pouch! The build quality is great and I'm sure I'll have a long lasting love/hate relationship with this bag.

Comments about Domke ProPack 418 Backpack:

I got this bag as a gift for my partner, who's starting doing DSLR cinematography. It has lots of space, can easily fit 2 cameras with lenses attached plus a couple of extra lenses, external mics, recorder and accessories. Because it's so big if you load it full it will be very heavy. I see this bag as a way to transport a lot of equipment, but not so much as a shooting bag. Also it's not so easy to access your gear to change lenses with a backpack like this. My partner is a large guy over 6 feet so for him it works great. I tried it on and it was way too big. I'm a short (5'3") women and the bag is longer than my back, the edge sits uncomfortably on top of my derriere. For this reason I prefer shoulder bags for myself.

Overall I would say this backpack is a great product, sturdy and with lots of space. Just remember to read the dimensions before ordering it.

Nice at the price of $. Large enough for two cameras with lenes as well as a couple of other lenes (including an unattached 70-200 f2.8 if neither of the cameras have it on). Lots of pckets for the little things and the included rain protector is a nice addition.

Comments about Domke ProPack 418 Backpack:

Well after the initial shock of the less than one day delivery, I found this backpack to be all that I had hoped for & probably more than I expected.
Often times a product is offered at a significant discount because it hasn't seemed to measure up to expectations, but in this case I can see that that is not the reason here. I'm not sure why, but I'm not complaining. Maybe there's a new revision coming out, but again I don't see why. This case is a great purchase as it is.
It has plenty of pockets & a well-padded insert with adjustable dividers to adapt to your needs with plenty of storage. I haven't had the chance to use it much & I've only worn it briefly, but it wears comfortably & the straps are adjustable on the go.
I haven't had it long enough to give more details about it, but I can say that I expect that you'll be as satisfied as I am now.

If you need a bag that holds a lot of equipment, the bag is great. I can fit my D700, flash, two primes, long and short zoom, a back up body and a few other pieces with no problem. Everything stays well protected and easily accessible. It's not the most stylish bag around and it feels big on my back, but it definitely does the job.

I t is big, it is heavy, but it has great build quality and it can serve a dual purpose once you leave the insert at home. Probably not the carry on material for European Air Travel, but it does not matter. Comes with rain cover, laptop sleeve and and velcro photo insert, !!, Awesome deal. Get it while it is still available

Comments about Domke ProPack 418 Backpack:

I purchased this bag about a month ago as I needed a bag that could stand up to international travel and to all-weather conditions. I traveled to the Isle of Skye for a hiking/photography tour, and I knew rain would be an ever present threat. What's more, I needed to be able to comfortably carry the following:

Two Canon 5D bodies (mki & mkii), extra batteries and chargers, an EF 400 mm 1:5.6 L USM with hood, an EF 100mm 1:2.8 L USM Macro with hood, an EF 200mm 1:2.8 L II USM, an EF 24-70mm 1:2.8 L USM with hood, a Konica AutoreflexTC with 50mm lens attached, spare film & CF cards, straps for all cameras, a box of Kimwipes, a lenspen blower, two umbrellas, a lenscoat, a 15" Macbook Pro, computer charger, UK power adapters, an external harddrive, a pair of Direct Sound EX-29 Headphones, a Velbon heavy duty tripod, and quite a few other miscellaneous items.

Not only did the 418 fit all of my gear, but I was able to fit it in the overhead bin of the plane (note: I packed the tripod in a checked bag for the plane ride since it has sharp points on the feet).

Aside from the advantage of being able to carry all of my cameras and computer gear in one bag on the plane, the bag performed excellently in the field. It's built very sturdily, and it was very easy to take it off, open it, swap lenses or cameras, and throw it right back on.

And yes, I would recommend taking it off to open it if it's fully loaded. The bag is by no means small, so if you're looking for something that you can just reach into for a super fast lens change, this may not be the right bag for you.

However, if you're looking for a bag that you can throw several cameras and several lenses into and then proceed to walk 20 miles through the rain all while feeling confident that your gear is safe, then this is certainly the bag for you.

Just got it out of the box and I have not tested it in the field yet. However, I put all my gear in : Sony alpha 77 w/ vert. grip and a Vivitar 19/35 lens on, a Minolta 28/105, a Sony 75/300, a Tamron 90mm, a Kodak Z981 camera w/vert. grip, a Minolta 3500xi flash + Pocket Box,2 battery chargers, plus all the little things, SD cards, remote, filters etc. There's still plenty of room left for more lenses and accessories. I then put it on my back and went around the property a few times. It felt right and it is really easy and fast to adjust. Customizing the compartments is a breeze. It comes with a raincoat that I have not tested yet, but seemed really easy and quick to put on. Definitely a best buy. I would recommend also having a smaller bag for a more casual stroll in town or visiting a museum.

I use this bag for trekking. As it is so roomy, there is room enough for me to pack a FX body, lenses, flashes, tripods and other accessories as well as other items such as food, bottled water. The inserts can be customised easily into various configurations. Previously, I lugged my gear in a Lowepro Stealth Reporter 650, and this bag makes trekking so much easier.

Comments about Domke ProPack 418 Backpack:

I needed a pack that would hold as much as possible including a laptop, be able to strap on a full size tripod when needed AND be within the airline carry on limit. To top these needs off, I was trying to keep costs down and just about everything was getting close to the $200 range when I came across the Domke 418 @ $150 off! After re-checking my other top choices on the wish list it was a no brainer. Does it get heavy? Sure it can depending what you put in it, but the bag itself is about 3# so if it is too heavy you can only blame yourself. The bag is well padded to protect your gear, built solid with good straps and harness that keeps it secure to my body and comfortable, (just unload what you don't need for any particular outing).4 Stars & not 5? I do not have much experience with other bags, but it seems they could have gotten a little more creative with the exterior pockets, the long diagonal zippered pockets are kind of limited. At some point I will need to get a smaller companion for around town walks, something to quickly access a lens change, but this satisfied my needs for the purpose it was purchased. This was still a very good value for me, my gear and laptop survived 4 flights and several outings at Yosemite plus some side trips and now comfortably home in Minnesota where it looks to have a long term roll in my equipment management scheme.

Comments about Domke ProPack 418 Backpack:

I needed something big enough for a medium format 400mm lens and 67 camera, as well as 2 other medium format lenses. Although they are snug - they are safe. The bag is well padded and made sturdy. It's perfect for what I need.
