Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Digital Camera:

Great light weight, versatile camera. Great for street photography. Much more inconspicuous than full sized DSLR with very good picture quality, accurate and fast auto focus. Only complaint is that it doesn't have a built-in viewfinder and the one that is sold as a hotshoe accessory isn't very good.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Digital Camera:

I bought the gf1 after many years of holding back on buying a "serious" camera. Even with a point&shoot, I've developed my skills to a pt where ppl think i used a dslr. So with intermediate skill level wanting an upgrade, I wasn't sure if I wanted all that gear dslr warrants. Then came the m4/3rd format and I still waited til now (gf2's advent) to make my purchase of the gf1 with the 20mm f1.7 pancake. The cam oozes with high quality craftsmanship that I've come to expect from Panasonic (my past two p&s are pannys). It feels solid and though not the easiest, one-hand shots are possible. It's ultimately meant for 2-hand operation though as that weight will wear on the wrist if single-hand.
Menu can be updated, but it's intuitively laid out. Positive action of the shutter is real nice (some say it's too loud but i disagree). The most outstanding feature is the bright lens... GET THE 20mm f1.7, you owe it to yourself to!!! It is simply amazing. I took shots in dim lighting, and cam returned ISO 100, 1/20s shutter. As someone who takes indoor social snaps lots, even despite my steady hands and the OIS, blurs can happen time to time, and if not, grainy noise due to higher ISO taken to combat blur. With the GF1 20mm lens, no problem. I even tried taking pic in the dark and it returned brighter than what i see kind of results which I was really surprised to see. Just a great low light lens overall.
The bokeh - it's so wonderful everytime I take the pic due to the soft blurring in the background. The knob for burst & self-timer takes a bit getting used to since i either turned it through two stops or none at first because it's a bit stiff, but after a bit, you appreciate that resistance in the control. I went for GF1 instead of GF2 because it possesses much more serious cam look with more extensive external controls, and better lens kit overall than the gf2. (faster pancake & longer zoom 45mm vs 42mm)
Get this before it runs off the market... I barely got mine!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Digital Camera:

The GF1 is a fine camera. By the time you read this it may be hard to find one, but it's worth seeking out if you're looking for a compact interchangeable-lens system.

It is a decent but not great low-light performer.

Video is pretty basic -- there's full auto with exposure compensation and what appears to be some kind of minimal dumbed-down aperture control. But it works well and looks good.

Ergonomics are very good with prime lenses and short zooms. You can of course mount a long zoom, but it's a bit of a pain to use (and removes the compactness advantage).

Build quality is good; feels much more solid than Panasonic's earlier G models.

This type of camera is generally speaking a very good step up for those upgrading from compact cameras. SLR shooters looking for a more compact but fully featured system should be prepared for slightly disappointing image quality (high ISO, dynamic range) if moving from a current-model SLR.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Digital Camera:

I have had lots of DSLR cameras, but typically DSLRs are heavy and not easy to carry around. I bought GF1 as my second camera. Pictures come out just like they are performed by DSLR.

Must Have item if you are tired of carrying heavy cameras but still seek a good quality.
