I bought this lens as a cheap temporary replacement for my Nikon 80-400mm. I used it for wildlife photography and shooting pet portraits. I was surprise at the quality of the images. They were surprisingly sharp and without chromatic aberration. The lens focuses quickly and doesn't "search". It was great for small birds at my feeder. The only down side is the motor is noisy. In general I'm very impressed by then lens. It also impressed my boyfriend who is a professional photographer. We tested it for pet photography and the quality of the pictures was unexpected. I would recommend it for a casual photographer who would like a general purpose lens, a parent wanting shoot their kinds sporting event or take it on vacation, travelers and students (like me) and semi-professonials. Its a good value. You can't beat the price for what you get. Also, when traveling you don't have to worry about it loosing $$$$ if something happens to it it can easily be replaced.

There was a problem with the auto-exposure interface when used on a Nikon d5100. When used in aperture priority mode, the image was overexposed. Correct exposure was achieved in shutter priority or if LivedView is used. Since I live 10 minutes from an authorized Sigma (and Nikon) service center, I had them look at it. They adjusted both to factory specs which reduced but did not eliminate the problem. It is likely a firmware issue that cannot be corrected. I discussed this with another owner who said he had the same experience but when used on a D3300.

In addition, the service center said AF was slower and more noisy than it should be and replaced some parts. The AF is now much better but it is still only marginally usable in aperture mode.

Since this is only for occasional use (I use wide angle and "normal" 85%) of the time, I guess this will be acceptable considering the price. In the case of focal lengths I expect to get more use from this experience convinces me tom stick with Nikon.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS Lens for Nikon Digital Cameras:

I have been shopping B@H for the last 10 or 12 years. Would not shop any place else online.
The Sigma 70-300 I just purchase is just what I needed. I use it to take close-ups of sports events. (Basketball).
I get very few and mean very few blurred pictures. I am very pleased with it.
I would recommend it to a friend.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS Lens for Nikon Digital Cameras:

Bought this for closer shots of birds, etc. Liked it at first, in spite of a noisy motor. So, I preferred manual mode. Then after 2 months, the focus ring would no longer turn in manual! It is now shipped back to the manufacturer, and I'm waiting to see how it returns.

Just wanted to get a reasonable priced lens
with some distance for my D610. It has accurate
focus and nice rendering. So far no cons, it does what I bought it for. Love that it is stabilized.
Great value. Lightweight for a lens with this much zoom.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS Lens for Nikon Digital Cameras:

I was needing a long zoom lens to use for daytime photography of outdoor middle and high school athletics. Although I have not used it at any athletic events I have used the lens to photograph fast moving action shots with great results. I have taken about 1000 pictures with the lens using my Nikon D3200 camera and I have been pleased with the results. The lens appears to be well constructed but it is quite heavy. I typically do not notice the weight of the lens when shooting for short shooting periods.

I am attaching two photos taken with the lens. The photo of the dogs running on the beach was taken on a clear sunny day at: ƒ/5.6, at 300.0 mm, shutter speed 1/1000 and ISO of 400. The photo of the bird landing was on an overcast day at: ƒ/5.3, at 220.0 mm, shutter speed of 1/500 and ISO of 1000. The photos display fast action shooting in both settings.

I have recently purchased several items from B&H and I have been more than pleased with the service, quality of products purchased and the great prices. I would definitely recommend someone who was looking for a budget zoom lens for daytime photography.

At the price, is excellent. Not as sharp as the Nikon vr model but pretty close. Focuses a bit slow but if your subject isn't moving you won't have a problem. I only use it outside on bright days.

I bought the Sigma 70-300 DG OS mostly to photograph the moon. For this it has proven excellent. I had previously borrowed a Nikon 70-300 VR and thought it was pretty good but the Sigma lens is better for less than half the price. The lens is not very loud and the OS works at least as good as the Nikon lenses I have.

I use my new lens at The Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge to take pictures of the wonders of nature. I love the fact that I can zoom in on everything! I also like the fact that it's not too heavy to use without a tripod. I have noticed that it is sometimes slow to react while using the auto zoom. However, I've been able to capture images that I have not been able to get with my other lenses.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS Lens for Nikon Digital Cameras:

Decided to purchase these lens as a all-around telephoto expecting average results, was pleasantly surprised with the outcomes - very competitive for the price range and definitely a telephoto any enthusiast would value before going pro and spending 10x or more on similar focal length in ultra-sharp glass. The build is solid, performance decent, auto-focus relatively accurate and, most importantly, results are very sharp.

Using the lens primarily for train photography, particularly panning close-up and tighter landscape frames.

If you are building amateur/learner/enthusiast kit - definitely worth the try. Gave it a shot, given B&H's sale price, and was a worth risk before going all out for 70-200mm, f/2.8 options at a much higher cost. Now have cash for filters, cards and possibly another camera body.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS Lens for Nikon Digital Cameras:

I needed a telephoto zoom lens with greater capacity than the one I have. I am an artist working from photos and like to get pictures of people out at fairs or in malls, etc. The farther away I can stand with my camera, the less noticeable I am. This lens allows me to take the shots I want without making the people I'm photographing paranoid (as in, who is she? why is she taking my picture?) As always, a lens of this type makes the camera a bit heavier, but that's the only down side and not a big deal.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS Lens for Nikon Digital Cameras:

Be sure to contact B&H when ordering to make sure you're shipped a lens with the newest firmware from Sigma. Those lenses with the newest firmware have a sticker on the box saying it's "D5300 Compatible." The one I was sent was not the newest factory version with the new firmware so I've had to ship the lens off to Sigma for a firmware upgrade. Without the newest firmware the autofocus and OS will not work properly with the D5300.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS Lens for Nikon Digital Cameras:

This lens is well built. Works great on just about any shot you take. It's a little heavy, but you would expect that. You can take hand held shots that turn out clear and in focus. The OS is great to have for that purpose. I have no complaints at all with this lens.
