I needed a bag to carry my DSLR, zoom lens & video camera, plus wallet, H2O bottles, sunglasses, etc. around Orlando theme parks. This back pack bag was perfect. All of my camera & video equipment fit neatly in the bottom compartment designed to protect this equipment. The top compartment fit everything I would have put in a medium-sized purse, including wallet, keys, sunglasses, eye glasses, a micro folding umbrella, water bottle & even my baseball cap. Although I didn't use it on this trip, I love the built-in rain cover and would have used it had we gone on any water rides. Only one negative - I didn't need the waist and chest straps & found them to be somewhat of a nuisance and had to buckle them to keep them out of the way. I would like to see side pockets added to the pack for my water bottle & sunglasses. All in all, an excellent bag for travel and camera protection.

I really like this backpack and used it for a year or so as my photo/life-in-general bag, but I've since moved on from it due to a few niggles. There's a lot of good, but a few bad things that eventually led me to look elsewhere for a jack-of-all-trades photo bag.

PROS:
Split compartmentalization of this bag for camera gear on bottom, personal effects on top is very nice for when you're not JUST shooting but want to bring your camera along.

Side compartment is big enough to fit a midsize DSLR with a 70-200mm f2.8 attached, plus another lens.

Tripod straps on the bag work really well.

Build of the bag is good. Straps are relatively thin but appropriate for the weight you can fit in the bag. Sternum strap was a good move, too.

It's possible to fit a tablet or even an 11" Macbook Air in the front "map" pocket of the bag (just under the weather flap). It's not super secure when the weather flap isn't buckled, but it's still POSSIBLE to carry a computing device.

CONS:
As many people have complained, the zipper on the main compartment of this bag is "fiddly". Sometimes it takes two hands to get in and out of the bag due to the zipper's U-shape. This can be fairly annoying and is the primary drawback of using this bag over time. It will continue to annoy you.

Foam dividers aren't ideal for the way most people will want to set this bag up, but it's possible to work around this. Consider using foam dividers from your other bags (or buying other inserts) to customize appropriately. Problem solved.

The space in the main compartment really doesn't have a lot of organization - there's one small zipper pocket, but otherwise it's raw space. This can be good, but can be a drawback if you're digging in the bag for something specific.

There's no water bottle sleeve on this bag. There needs to be one. Why isn't there one?

CONCLUSION:
I can't say DON'T pick this bag up, because it's pretty good - but it's still just not quite right for its intended use. Maybe try before you buy.

ALTERNATIVE:
Take a look at the Lowepro Photo Sport 200 AW Backpack instead.

Comments about Lowepro Versapack 200 AW Backpack (Black and Gray):

This is more like a 3.5 star bag. I bought this bag for a 2 month trip through Europe. And although I looked like a total American tourist with a backpack, I liked that it didn't look like a camera bag and was pretty slim, important for me as a petite female.Pros:Plenty of space for my camera, lenses, and daily personal itemsEasy access slip pocket on the front (which isn't visible) is great for papers, passport, etc.Zip compartment on top was great for keeping things secureDual-sided access to camera. Finally, a bag that addresses righties and lefties!Raincover came in handy several times. Really like how it's attached/hidden awayTripod set-up also a great bonus that I got use out of2 buckle clips at the bottom was good for carrying a compact umbrellaValueCons:Padding that the bag comes with works well for packing camera/lenses vertically, but not if you want to configure side-access. Padding is not long enough, and too wide for that. Call LowePro and they will send you more padding inserts to make this work.Backpack straps need more padding. For a bag meant to carry so much, the straps need to be able to support it. Mine are worn thin after 3 months of daily use.No separate laptop pocket. While I didn't carry my laptop around during the days while sightseeing, I did pack my laptop in this bag on travel days. My 13" mac book pro fit in its neoprene sleeve in the bag. But it was a huge hassle to get it in and out of the pack (for security) when my camera/lens was also packed because I would have to undo all the velcro holding the mid-section, which would then disrupt my neatly packed lens dividers. A simple zipped section for the laptop would easily solve this.No exterior water bottle carrier. B/c personal section of bag is zipped and difficult to get to while moving, the bag needs another easily accessible pocket large enough for things like a drink.

I use this backpack for my Nikon D3200 and camcorder Canon HF-M50.

        Like:
compartment on the top, waistbelt, side zipper for quick access.

        Dislike:
it does not sit properly on the its bottom.
hard to open the top compartment from the top zipper.

Overall, I like its quality, compact size and design.

I've always been afriad to bring my camera on a hike, or found it too awkward with an over-the-shoulder bag, but am loving this new backpack. Perfectly organized for the lenses and accessories and a bit of space left over for a protein bar!

The top zip takes a bit of getting used to, great other than that!

I can fit my 6D + Grip + 17-40mm F4L in here with no problem. The bag is light but durable enough to withstand movements of the daily bag. It doesn't get very hot on your back like other bags I own. I enjoy the size of this bag compared to my other BIG backpacks. It doesn't look bulky either. The flaps aren't that conveient at times.Good bag overall for the value.[*]

Comments about Lowepro Versapack 200 AW Backpack (Black and Gray):

I was looking for a smaller bag, something easier to carry then my current DSLR Video Fastpack 250 AW.

For my current setup, D7000 with extra battery grip and 50-200mm lenses, the fit its snug.
It's well padded, but quite snug. Not much space left for extra lenses or flash.
For quick trips that do not require lots of hardware works just fine .

Its very discrete, doesn't really stick out as a camera bag and due its smaller size blends in quite well when next to common backpacks.

Could have a better zipper layout.
But its design and snug fit, sometimes I wish it would open wider to fit larger pieces of equipment.

Comments about Lowepro Versapack 200 AW Backpack (Black and Gray):

I took this backpack on a few hikes in Colorado. It worked very will and I was able to carry my camera, a tripod and some extras. There was plenty of room for my Canon 60d with and attached lens. I was able to get the camera out fairly quickly also. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a similar use at a fair price. The only draw back I found was the top compartment did not seem t be to easy to get into. There was plenty of room I just didn't care for the ease of the zipper in the top compartment.

It is the Backpack I was looking for. Ok the upper compartment could be a little bigger for an ipad, but the backpack is very versatile. You can load the camera from top or bottom compartment or for easy acces from the side. I haven't quite figured out how to pack it optimal for the divieders give only limited possibilities. That would one other thing that could be improved. But all in all it is great. And I feel save in the city since you can pack it so not anyone can have easy access. I was looking for a nice little daypack wich ataches the tripod. nd that is exactly what it is.

As one who use to travel and takes pictures I looked for a bag in which i shall be able to carry my dSLR another lens and some food, water and even sweater. Now I fouond and even the flash is in.
It little bit smaller than i was impressed in the net but still very comfortable and flexible .

Comments about Lowepro Versapack 200 AW Backpack (Black and Gray):

I owned an older Lowepro bag, and while that was good, it had a lot of space for additional lenses but I never had that many or will have that many, and had insufficient space for additional personal items. I upgraded to the Versapack 200 and loved it, it was great during a recent trip I took. The most important, it was very comfortable, had enough space for me, protected my camera and lenses, and could also carry my tripod.
