I already have the 21mm Distagon ZE and the 50mm Planar ZE for use in the Canon 5D MkII. The 35mm is as good as the legendary 21mm, sharp corner to corner, fantastic colors due to T* coating. I am selling all my Canon lenses and sticking to the Zeiss primes, except the Canon 135 f/2 L which is a winner. I couldn't be happier with a lens. Buttery manual focusing. The 35mm Distagon is excelent! I am fanatical about sharpness as I also use a medium format digital system, and I feel that with the Zeiss ZE lenses and the Canon 5DMkII I am there in in the same level of quality, whenever the work does not require images over 30 Mega pixels.

The Canon 35 f2 IS is definitely sharper than this lens, which I returned. Sharper at all useful apertures. Bryan's expert testing at The Digital Picture clearly confrims this. In the corners at f4 it's not even close. Why spend twice as much on a lens that is less sharp and has no AF. The Zeiss does have beautiful color, contrast, and separation, but just because it's Zeiss doesn't mean it's better. Canon and Sigma both have new offerings that best many Zeiss lenses.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I love this lens. Beautiful bokeh and solidly made. Thought about getting the 1.4 but couldn't justify paying 1.5x the price for 1 more stop of light. Heavy but well worth it

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I am a serious hobbyist but by no means an expert. I have used this lens on my 5 D Mark III and 70 D for landscapes and "street." I find the manual focus to be quite easy to use and I think the look of the photos is superior to those I have taken with the kit lenses and the 40mm pancake. I don't find the weight to be an issue, at least compared to the L zoom lenses that I have used, and it seems to balance well with both cameras. I also like the solid feel of the lens.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

i was considering this versus the f/1.4 version for a few months and decided in the end that my skills did not verify the extra ~$[$]for one f-stop. i was interested in trying out a manual focus lens, and really like the 35mm perspective. i mount this on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III. i have been using the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L for 5 years previously and am quite in love with that lens, so wasn't sure how much better this Zeiss may be. however, i am immensely happy with both my decision to buy a Zeiss and my decision to go for this versus the f/1.4. the lens provides wonderful bokeh wide open and i don't detect too much distortion (nothing that Lightroom doesn't seem to fix, certainly not worse than my 16-35mm at 35mm). at smaller apertures, the lens is shockingly sharp. and the Zeiss does indeed provide a style that is unlike anything i have seen from other lenses, photos made with this lens are simply gourgeous. i really like the feel of the manual focus ring and find myself thinking a bit more about each shot. this lens has remained on my camera alomost 100% of the time since receiving it, and i am back to taking my camera with me everywhere, one of the reasons i was looking for a smaller lens than the 16-35mm, which is wonderful but bigger and bulkier. i would recommend this to anyone looking for a fixed focal length and willing to take the adventure of a manual focus lens.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

This is a great lens for environmental portraiture, landscapes, scenery, and indoor/outdoor low light photography. The color saturation and perceived separation between objects at varying distances is outstanding. I need to do considerably less editing post-shoot with this lens than with any of my Canons.

Why use Canon glass when these are available?Manual focus feels good after years of autofocus, feel like a real photographer again!

I picked this lens up after selling my Canon 24-70 f/2.8L and I couldn't be happier with it. It's sharp, the color and contrast are beautiful, the focus ring is smooth and has great resistance (but not stiff), and it has that much loved '3D' effect that I've only seen with Zeiss lenses. Worth every penny!

Great lens, a bit heavy but I honestly prefer it that way. I use it mostly for film on a Canon 5D mark ii and when you compare the lens with a 35mm Canon, the difference is obvious - the image quality is incredible, whenever people see the footage they don't think it's from a 5D. A camera is nothing without a good piece of glass, and this lens proves that. It's a bit pricey but well worth it, and you don't get the wobble that happens with the low-end lenses.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I debated about getting a 35mm prime lens for a while. I went back and forth between this lens and the Canon L lens. I also debated about getting the 1.4 Zeiss lens. I own the 100/2 which in my opinion is the most striking lens that I have used. I own Canon 85/1.2, 135/2 200 2.8, 300 2.8 and find it to be my favorite go to lens. I have grown accustomed to manual focus again like the old days. So I decided to get this lens and with the savings over the 1.4 I used it to get the 50mm ZE. I am delighted with my decision. I just shot a wedding with the 35/2 and 100/2 ZE and the results were spectacular. If you have never experienced the Zeiss 3D effect you will be blown away. If you are debating about this lens take my word for it you will be as delighted as I am.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I had this lens for just a few days along with the 50f2. MP. Both lenses were super sharp, but I felt the manual focusing rings were both too stiff, especially the 50mm. My 21mm Zeiss is not too stiff and very smooth!! That's not a problem with static subjects, landscapes, achitecture, etc... but not good in a dimly lit room or church trying to focus on people, Just my opinion, others may have no problem! For this reason, I'd take the Canon 35 1.4L anyday, just because the autofocus is there when you need it and you still have a nice wide rubber ring to focus manually if you want. Not as good wide open, but stop the Canon down to 5.6, and it's incredibly sharp across the frame, and actually has higher resolution in the center than the Zeiss!! Please Canon, update the 35 to MK II version like you did with the 24f1.4L?? If they don't I'd still buy the original, but I'll get another 135f.2L first,(sold my first copy), and use that along with my 21mm Zeiss super wide! Both killer lenses!! In the end, I saw little or no optical superiority with the Zeiss 35, and no mythical 3D effect some talk about with that lens, (sorry guys, just don't see it), and I'm a sharpness and quality fanatic, shooting only Pentax 67 & 4x5 from 1995-2008!! Just make your choice and enjoy any lens you buy, that's what photography is all about, making images that mean something to us and others! That's my 2 cents worth, Good luck and good shooting!

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

The lens is a little heavy but its construction is really good. Image quality is splendid and it has less distortion compared to, for example, EF 35/1.4 L. It is hard to see the focus with standard focusing screen in 5D mk II. It is recommended that you get focusing screen EG-S. You will have much nicer vision.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

Zeiss 35mm f2 Distagon ReviewThis is my first foray into dedicated manual focusing lenses since the old 35mm film days and my old OM-1. The construction quality is amazing, as many others have said it's immediately discernible from even the Canon L-series lenses. I can now say 'now here's a nice piece of glass!'. However, I probably should have done a bit more homework before buying the lens and while I don't regret it, the stock focus screen leaves a lot to be desired because other than the auto-focus assist, it can be pretty tough to get the focus right on. I do have a good focus screen on order after reading this article: http://lenses.zeiss.com/photo/en_DE/other/products/what_makes_the_difference/focusing_screens.html So, with that said, I'm not sure that as an enthusiast photographer I'll have the time or patience to use this as my walk-around lens, I'll probably stick with my Canon 24-105 and 50mm f1.4 for that. However for detailed portraits or still scenes, the 35mm f2 Distagon will likely be the first lens I reach for. Handling the lens is a joy and there's a distinct 'I'm not worthy' feel to it but I hope to be able to do it justice soon.Pros: construction, when I've nailed a photo, it showsCons: manual focus is going to take some more practice to get it right, but so does anything that's worth doing; filters are tricky--it's such a snug fit between the included lens hood and the lens barrel that my normal 58mm B&W MRC Nano has to be removed to put the hood on, rumor has it that the 'Slim' version may allow it to clear so that's on my next orderOverall: you can tell there is huge potential, but seriously consider a good focus screen to go with it which will add a couple hundred to the purchase but is helpful with every lens

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF Mount:

This lens is manual focus only. If you need an autofocus lens this may not be the lens for you.

Otherwise you're going to LOVE this lens. The contrast is amazing. The colours are amazing. The sharpness is amazing. It practically NEVER flares, even wide open. The focus ring is smooth like butter.

It has an all-metal construction; it's a little heavy although I think most of that weight is heavy glass. It has a metal lens hood which offers great protection.

Highly recommended. This was my entry into Zeiss glass and I'm going to be an owner of Zeiss lenses for life I was so impressed with this one.
