Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I am using this lens for general purpose photography. Nature shots and portraits. I am still learning to get sharp focus manually. The colors and the image quality is different (looks much better to me) from the other 35mm lenses I used. In some of the shots I can see little purple fringing (on 100 percent crop, eye catch light from flash) and the software corrected it. There is really nothing to complain about the lens. The colors are so good that I did not need to use saturation boost in PP (till now). Blokeh is very good. I havent seen better blokeh with a 35mm lens. The pictures are sharp right from f2. The portraits do stand out from the backgrounds. Manual focus is taking some time and I am struggling catch candid moments. I hope that it will improve with more practice. Optically and mechanically it is superb. I have not seen a 35mm with better image quality.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I wanted this lens for night photography and landscape stitching. The lens doesn't have a hard infinity stop (it will focus past infinity) so it will be difficult for night photography.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I've tried three 35mm primes for my Nikon FF cameras ... Nikkor 35mm f/1.4, Samyang 35mm f/1.4 and Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art series. They are all great lenses, great performers. All three are tack sharp and producing beautiful bokeh but I dumped all of them for this one.

The Zeiss Distagon 35/2 is one of those lenses you just want to keep. This thing is sharp at f/2 (I mean really sharp). Sharper than Nikon, Samyang and Sigma wide open. Color rendering reminds me on my old Leica glass. Just superb. Micro contrast is second to none. The bokeh is creamy smooth, not busy at all. I can definitely confirm that Zeiss 35/2 is producing that wicked 3D effect, pictures are "popping out" especially when shooting wide open.

This is a manual lens and for those who can't live without AF, it could be a deal breaker. Otherwise, try it and I'm sure you'll love it. As I mentioned before, other 35mm primes are great but in comparison with Zeiss, quite sterile.

                Five of them stars.

You can do all the reading you want on the internet. You can listen to the pixel peepers saying 'this lens...' or 'that lens...' . Until you have one of these in your hands, you won't appreciate what this Zeiss lens represents.

Yeah, I use a manual focus lens...on my Df and my F3hp. So, what. It fits. The lens has great character.

You end up with some CA is certain instances, but it's easy to get rid of in light room. Then again, you can shoot BW film and not worry about it.

                I love this lens.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I looked long and hard for a great 35mm lens. It's one of my favorite focal lengths and I wanted a good one for my documentary work, which also involves quite a bit of landscape-type shooting.I wanted a lens that was relatively compact and very sharp even on my demanding D800E, but the overall look of the photographs was really the most important thing. This Zeiss is very sharp in the center even at f/2. The corners are good as well when shot wide-open, they are not smeared or overly blurred. Of course the corners get better at f/2.8-f/4. And at f/5.6, the lens is extremely sharp right out to the far corners. It's far superior to other 35mm lenses including the more expensive Nikkor 35/1.4G.The lens has great color and contrast, and it's very good at controlling flare and ghosting, which are mostly non-existant.The build quality is first rate--the lens is all metal and the focusing ring is silky smooth. The one downside is the lens has a bit of color fringing, and it doesn't get all that much better as you stop down. It's easily removed in post processing though, and most other lenses of this focal length also have this problem. The lens has a flat field, no focus shift and in general, it's a great, well-behaved lens.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

Once you buy a Zeiss lens you quickly use it to measure all other lenses. Lenses purchased after the zeiss will be looked at as, pretty good but it's no Zeiss. This lens produces nice punchy saturated colors and very contrasty. I heavily post process my images however when I upload the images taken with this lens I try to process them but keep coming back to the original shot. It looks great right out of the camera. I included the dog picture to show the 3-D effect of Zeiss.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I have been using and have been satisfied with the Zeiss Distagon T* 21mm F/2.8 ZF.2 on a Nikon D800. It has the standard Zeiss characteristics: sharp, good color, good micro contrast. I might mention that the chip on the 28mm failed so I'm now using its replacement under warranty. I wanted a lens with the same qualities but a narrower angle of view. The Distagon T* 35mm F/2.0 ZF.2 did not disappoint.

My main interest in this lens is street photography. Before buying it I rented an Olympus OM-D-E-M! with the Olympus 17mm f/1.8. The ergonomics and small sensor of that camera did not appeal to me. I then rented a Sony Alpha A7R with the Sony FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA Sonnar lens. I, as have several reviewers, e.g., Ming Thein, found that getting sharp photos with it was next to impossible. The combination of inaccurate auto focus, inaccurate focus peaking, and extreme shutter vibration reduced the number of keepers to a small fraction of the total. My conclusion was that it made more sense to put a good 35mm on the D800.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I purchased this lens so that I would own one lens without autofocus. I wanted to have the positive control than manual focus affords you, and I didn't have any qualms about MF since that's what I used for years with my first 35mm cameras.

After a few months of use, I have to say manual focus is harder when you don't have an aid such as a split-prism in the viewfinder. So you need to take your time. As such this lens is not the tool for fast-moving subjects. However, when you can take time to focus, it is extremely sharp. I don't think I have a sharper lens among my Nikon lenses.

The lens is very well made. It's all metal and you can tell the manufacturing tolerances are exceptionally tight. The focus ring has the smooth, heavy feel that all quality lenses once had but is hard to find now in the AF world we live in. Which brings me to another reason I wanted this lens in my collection: having no focus motor, that's one less major component to fail over the years. I think I'll be making good photos with this lens as long as I live.

The color rendition and clarity are superb. I have not done any systematic comparisons with my Nikkors but I'm satisfied that once again, the lens does not compromise in this areas. I don't think it compromises in any area. It's not an inexpensive lens but the quality is impossible not to recognize. I recommend it for anyone who wants to take manual control of the focusing process.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

best 35mm i ever used after the new Leica summilux 1.4 aspherical.

outresolves my D800E sensor across the board, even wide open. Has some distortion (barrel) so not very good for architecture, but for the rest its a top notch lens.

the zeiss micro contrast is there, and so is this 3D idea with very nice bokeh.

highly recommended for Nikon if you can live with manual focus.

and compared to the Leica its really a bargain...

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

FIfteen years of shooting with Zeiss glass and this new specimen stays true to the exceptional overall image quality I have come to expect. I wish it could focus as close as my beat up old 25 F2.8 distagon did, and it would be lovely if autofocus were an option, but for overall image quality and as my "go to, carry around and general use lens" on an 35 SLR, I'll still take the this lens over just about any other 35. Clearly not on par with my Leitz 35 1.4 aspherical on a Leica M, but nothing is, especially wide open. At 1/4 the cost, I'm very happy indeed with this lens.

My first experiences with the Zeiss 35mm lens for my Nikon are great. The holiday night scenes in Bielefeld showed richness and great detail. I am quite pleased with my purchase.

Sharp across the entire image including near the corners.

I found the microcontrast slightly better than the Nikon 1.4G (in addition to having sharpness near the corners better than the Nikon)

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

Quality build & superb performance in both daylight and low light. It's always hard to justify the cost of a new "toy" and this "toy" is rather expensive but I'm like most others...when I see the photos & videos from this lens, all I can think is" it's worth every penny!" And when I show others my photos & videos, the first thing comes out of their mouths is "Oh My God!" It really is quite impressive. Everything great that others have said about this lens is true. There's nothing negative about this lens. If you want to play, you pay.

I pair this with a Sony Nex-7 and it's a beautiful combo. Just when you think it can't get any better, it does. I love it! No regrets.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

Ok, so you've heard all the glorious comments about this lens, and yes it is THAT good. Im always looking for an excuse to keep this on the camera..

So here i am to mention a negative i have with this lens, it is a small one but at times it can be an annoyance. I'm reffering to the lens hood. Every lens i buy, at the same time i purchase a Nikon NC filter and it stays on the lens for life. IMHO They are the best 'protection' filter you can buy without 'corrupting' your high quality glass.
Once you put the filter on, you cant get the lens hood on, the tolerance is that fine. You have to fit the hood, then finger tip screw the filter on in the recesses of the hood. So basically, the hood becomes irremovable. It is a small hood, but that extra fixed length does affect what size lens case i had to buy and how high the camera sits in the bag (making it harder to close the zip). Like i say a small niggle.

I use this as my walk around lens and get frustrated out shooting when i cant focus on moving targets. Then when im back editing, i get bummed out at the amount of great but out of focus shots i have to delete. But then.. when i come across a few perfectly focused shots (keepers), the lenses glory shines and all is forgiven.
Its a love hate relationship. Lots of love and a little bit of hate. But still it is my most used and most cherished lens. Like everyone says, once you get a zeiss, you want more. I did and i got the 50mm f2, a stunning lens in every way, but it sits gathering dust, because im too busy with the 35mm.

The Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 is my 'Gets the job done extremely well, ol' faithfull, never lets me down'.
The 35mm zeiss demands me to work it and thus rewards me such. Its the tool of an artist.

This lens has made me a better photographer.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I have been using this lens for about a year now, and in addition to all the glowing remarks about this lens, I'd simply like to add that the overall balance of this Zeiss with my D300, especially without the grip, is about perfect as it can get.

I have had various versions of the Nikon, tried the 40mm and 58mm Voigts, and the Sigma's etc of this world, but nothing comes close to the holdability and balance of the Zeiss + D300 combo.

For this particular reason only, it has become favorite my walkabout lens.

I do own another Zeiss, the 100mm Makro-Planar, another outstanding lens in every respect.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

When I purchase the 35mm Distagon I expected a good lens with awesome construction. However, after using it for a few jobs, I soon realize that I got a GREAT lens with SUPERB construction.

This things has definetily been made to last, far more than any Nikon that I own (and I do own some of the best glass Nikon currently makes).

This lens is worth far more than it costs, I can assure you that.
