I had been looking for a lightweight tripod (~2 lbs) for a while. This would be my 2nd, backup tripod. I already have a Manfrotto 190XPROB that I'm very satisfied. Most carbon fiber ones are outside my budget (> $300). But I found this Manfrotto carbon fiber for [$]. Looking at the specs, it fits my need quite well. It is not as tall as my 190XPROB, nor does it handle as much load. But, it weighs half the 190! This would be my travel tripod, including hiking with a camera and a couple of lenses. It is sturdy enough to handle Canon 5D Mark II and 24-70/2.8 or 70-200/4 on flat surface. Also sturdy enough for 70-200/2.8 with the legs on the second, flattened position, and the 4th, smallest segment retracted. (If 4th segment is in extended position, they are visibly bent with this kind of load). I paired mine with 494RC2, making the total weight of 1.27kg, good enough for hiking. NOTE: This tripod is *not* for those looking for stability for long exposures outdoor, etc. QUICK COMPARISON 732CY M-Y vs 190XPROB:Max height: 134.5cm vs 146.0cmMin height: 28.5cm vs 8.5cm (with horizontal center column)Max load: 3.5kg vs 5kgFolded length: 42.5cm vs 57cmWeight: 0.95kg vs 1.8kgPrice: [$] vs $125 PROS:Short folded length. One of the lightest weight without breaking the bank. You would pay a lot more just to get marginally lighter one than this.Quite strong for the weight. Some workarounds (with some tradeoffs in height) can be done for use in windy situation/unstable surface/heavy load. CONS:Clearly weaker than 190XPROB. I would not use, or be very careful with, the 4th segment on unstable surfaces.Somewhat slower to unfold than 190XPROB, due to the lightweight segments (you need to pull with your hand, rather than letting it go down by gravity). No foam/warm grip, but this probably saved weight.

    Nice but made in China

I use my Canon 7D with a battery grip and a heavy 30-350mm lens on it. Pros:

    Cons:
MADE IN CHINA!! What's up with that. The parts are not nearly as high quality as they use to be. Plastic parts. It's also not as stable when center column is extended.

Comments about Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I just received this tripod and they discontinued this. I think I am very lucky actually. I'm 5'1" tall and this is a perfect travel solution for me. With all legs and middle column extended, a Manfrotto 494RC ball head and my Pentax k-r camera, the viewfinder is level with my eyes. It feels good quality and sturdy enough (especially without the last section extended). The price was the cheapest I could find in carbon fiber. I've attached two photos here of its setup (sorry about the blur; they were taken by an iphone). Now I wonder if they discontinued this product because there is another good replacement coming out..

Comments about Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I have a larger Manfrotto tripod which is great but it did not suit my travel space and weight requirements, hence the purchase of this one which is half the weight and 20cm smaller when folded. It has proved ideal for my needs. It is stable, lightweight and the pictures are sharp. A great product.

Comments about Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod:

Great tripod for traveling, light weight and stable. Using the Manfrotto 496RC head and find the pair to be a good match. A Canon 7D with battery grip and the 24-105mm L lens pairs well and would not want to go much heavier than that. I also use a Cullman Magnesit 525 tripod which is a sleeper set because of the very low cost and high quality. Highly recommend both tripods and as always you cannont beat B & H.

This will not replace a big tripod, but when you can't carry a larger tripod either to weight or overall size this makes a nice compromise.

Comments about Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I've used this tripod for a few remote-triggered long-exposure night time shots as well as daylight landscapes, and I'm thrilled with the results. It's my first decent tripod, having previously used a cheap, and frustrating 50 dollar piece of junk. This one is definitely worth the investment. It's great value, light, stable, incredibly easy to set up and pack away, just all round great design, and I can see now why Manfrotto are so highly rated.

I use this set of legs to film skiers. I use them in the freezing cold and they perform perfectly. Tall, sturdy and light as can be. If i had more money I'd buy its older brother. But, at [$] these are a steal. Get em while they're hot.

Comments about Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod:

while much more $$ than the most basic/cheapest units - it is in fact something of an entry level. The tripod is very light and sturdy when used with regular dSLR and the typical lens, but I would worry using it with something like 300mm lens. I like how small it is when fully assembled. Wish they included a small carrying case with it though.

This is a very small and compact tripod. It is sturdy for its size, but I would be very nervous putting my 1D mkIII on it unless i am right next to it. For travel use, it is light and compact so it works well. I use a 498CR2 head with it. The head is actually too big and makes the tripod top heavy. A lighter and smaller head may work better. Last section of legs is really small... about the diameter of cropsticks. It will hold your light camera, but just be careful not to overload it. 7 lbs claim is probably right on.

Comments about Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod:

Excellent backup to my heavy bulky Manfrotto.
When I'm on the road, I need compact, reliable, light tripod. Especially when I'm on my motorcycle, it's easily stowed away.

Comments about Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I have a number of very heavy, classical tripods with big, clumsy heads but when I have to travel light, like due to weight restrictions on safaris or when traveling with hand luggage, I rely on this tripod. Works well even with bigger cameras.

Comments about Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod:
