I was inspired to write this review because I just got some transparencies back from the processor of a trip I took to the Swiss Alps last year and they are so unbelievably awesome. I have a great digital camera which I like for movies and candids, but, really, even in this digital age, there are things that digital still just can't do. For those times, this is your camera.

It's lightweight, dual format, modern and has all the features you need. If you are new to film, you will simply be blown away with the results.

Here's what always happens to me: I go on a trip, like my honeymoon last year to Paris, or a trip with my band to Basel, Switzerland and like everyone else, I bring a very high end digital camera and shoot away. I also bring this along and take special shots with it. I download all the images and movies from my digital into my laptop and make movies, vignettes and slide shows and remember the times that were forever captured in the images. As I shoot the digital, I let the film stack up and when I get home, eventually, I send the film off to get developed, half worried that I'm wasting money on images that I'd already gotten with my digital.

And then the little envelope with the photos and/or chrome film arrives and I open it and instead of laughing or remembering having "been there," I am totally speechless and I am there again. That's the power of the images that this camera delivers. I'm not saying you won't go back to digital, but you will understand the special place that film will always have, particulary when run through a camera of this caliber.

I love my GF670. I will never sell it and as long as they make film, I will never stop shooting with it. It will never not accompany me on a trip.

I have a Hasselblad, by the way, so I know the lens and results. Great camera. But it's bulky and doesn't have a built-in meter. It's not going to travel with you comfortably in a big pocket and fold up in your luggage easily.

By the way, the meter on the GF670 has never failed even once. It really is as easy as totally trusting the reading it gives you, and that's including chrome. I shoot mostly with Fuji 100 speed slide film. I don't bother to bracket anymore because you simply don't have to.

To complement an excellent but aging 1950's Zeiss Ikon Nettar, I wanted a medium format camera with modern features- ready for off the tripod, hand held shooting. I had thought this Fuji was the answer- and the results from two test rolls were excellent. However, my hands are small, and their constant touch against the bellows was an immediate issue when focusing or dialing the aperture while supporting the base of the camera with my palm. B&H has an excellent return policy. Thank you B&H.

Thinking of buying a second one as a backup

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I've had it for over three years and I have it on me almost every day. The bellows mechanism and the cover feel a bit flimsy but they held up so far. Generally it feels a bit cheaper than what it is and how well it works. The rangefinder is superb, everything works really well. I haven't shot any color film with it yet but black and white comes out great.

If Fuji brought back Neopan 1600 and released it in the 120 format I would die a happy man. I still have a stash of Neopan 400 in the fridge...

I wish they sold the black version in the US. If I buy a second one I would probably go for the Japanese black version. Silver paint is not the greatest look, but that's just me...

This is the best folder you can buy. The photos are fantastic! It is accurate, easy to use and so quiet that you won't know if it took the picture. It is so quiet that it puts Leica to shame. This is the camera to buy, especially over any folder before 1960.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

This is my go to camera, I carry it everywhere with me. I have taken it to 6 continents and countless countries. I would suggest it to anyone.

The camera is extremely compact, and it seems to be completely solid. The lens is tack sharp, SHARP! The meter is accurate.

My only real complaints about the camera is the lack of a self-timer, the fact that for some reason in the cold, the battery dies quickly, and there is a wind-knob not a wind-lever.

The rangefinder accurate is super bright as contrasty, even in the dark of night. The focus is butter smooth, much smoother than the Mamiya 7 I used to own.

I would suggest this camera to anyone who wants a compact rangefinder, or compact medium format camera.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I have had my GF670 for 3 1/2 years now and used it mostly with Ilford black and white films. I have used it extensively for travel in Australia, NZ, Mexico and USA/Canada and have had no problems with the camera. The focus is accurate and the viewfinder super bright. The lens performs as a modern, well coated lens should. I love using the GF670 with Ilford Delta 3200 film (@1600) and it produces wonderful images with good contrast and tones. The camera weighs about 1kg, and is compact when folded although it is bigger and heavier than an old 6x9 folder.I have the Fujifilm hood which takes 40.5mm filters. Filters (58mm) can also be fitted directly on the lens and the hood fits onto the 58mm filter. Filters must be removed to fold the camera (as with most folders). The shutter is almost silent. The aperture priority and exposure compensation are great features as is the shutter speed readout in the viewfinder. Battery life for me has been over 12 months.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I just wanted to add that after 3 years, I still love this camera. I mentioned in my original review that I opted for a 58mm to series 6 adapter that allows me to use my series 6 filters. The official hood takes 40.5 mm filters, same size as the series 6. I also use a vented series 6 hood with the filter adapter and I have no problems with vignetting. So this is a viable option if you don't want the more expensive hood and filters.I have touched the bellows a few times during use which pushed in the folds; however, I was able to correct the issue without much effort. In general, I'd say this is a small concern. The exposures are still spot on, the lens is sharp, and the shutter is quiet. I still recommend this.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

This camera delivers medium format quality that can fit inside a jacket pocket! The whole idea of a 6 x 7 camera that is actually pocketable is just crazy! Yet the other day I was out walking around with this camera folded up inside my jacket pocket. Truly a delightful shooting experience. The viewfinder is THE largest, most clear viewfinder I have ever used. The focus is silky smooth and the rangefinder patch is bright and clear. A spectacular camera and one I am proud and happy to own.

Quite possibly the last new medium format film camera to ever be designed. Let's hope that is not true!

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I own three medium format cameras, but the GF670 is my only modern one and only rangefinder.

Ergonomics are an individual matter, but I find the camera very fast and comfortable to use in landscape and portrait orientation. Getting used to using my thumb to turn the focus wheel took only a few days. For a manual focus medium format camera, the GF670 operates easily and quickly. Combined with its lightweight, it's certainly amongst the most pleasant cameras with which to travel and just have around that I have had the pleasure of using.

I'd describe the lens as being very modern. It's contrasty and saturated. The hood works well, and it's a useful way to store a filter for quick use. I haven't had any flaring issues with or without the hood, but of course that may just be coincidence.

It's particularly nice to have a GF670 in tandem with an older SLR or TLR medium format camera. Shooting through a chimney finder is a very different experience to shooting with a rangefinder, and the difference between a very modern lens and many older lenses is quite striking. I prefer one look in some cases, and the other in others.

Fuji did a really nice job with this camera. I particularly like its rendering in colour with Portra 160. It's possible to get a bright, but not washed out kind of look that is really distinctive. It shoots nicely in black and white, too. I've had particularly good luck with T-Max 400 and Ilford Delta 3200.

The flash sync works well, too. There is no TTL flash, but it's not hard to get good results once you know how to use a flash.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

Have been using the camera almost every day for the past two weeks and i am very happy with the purchase.
I love how compact it is for a medium format camera, at first i thought the bellows system could become annoying but to be honest hasent even been an issue.
Its light weight and very easy to load, also changing from 6x6 and 6x7 is very simple just the flick of a switch inside the camera when changing film, and the set up for shooting 120 to 220 is very easy just have to slide the film pressure plate across.
The only thing that i was disappointed in would be the fact you cant leave any lens filter screwed on if you wish to collapse the lens as it is set up so fine that the extra bit of thread will not allow it to fold back into the body.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I wanted something I could carry day-to-day without having to carry a bag. Also will be using the GF670 along with my Mamiya 7II when I travel.

            * Compact size and great lens. GF670 allows me to carry a great medium format film camera in my bag so I have it when I need it.
            * Silent shutter is almost too silent. Great for more candid shooting
            * Durable build means it will likely last well beyond the life expectancy of most digital cameras.
            * Doesn't allow you to keep filters on lens when collapsing and that means having to make sure filter and lens are clean every time you have to put the filter on.
            * Lens hood too expensive to have several with filters attached for quick on/off of filters
            * Leather Case essential to keep nicks and dings at bay

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I shoot 6x6 with Hasselblad cameras but I traveling a lot and many time I just can´t carry 10 or 15 kg of gear with me all the time so I bought Fuji GF670 as a last option to replace my Hassy gear but still maintain a possibility to shoot 6x6 or 6x7. Well, now it is my first choice camera and I carry it with me everywhere. It is impossible not to fall in love with it despite it is a bit bulky but still much smaller then my Hassy gear. Lens is amazingly sharp, excellent corner to corner coverage, no vignetting, very nice color rendition. Built-in metering system is accurate. I agree with a fellow who complained this camera is kind of fragile, yes, you have to be careful, never use brutal force and do not drop it! Otherwise it is a solid performer, you can rely on this camera. BTW, filters are 58mm screw-in so all my Canon filters fits just fine. You will have a lot of fun with it and the image quality will surprise you. I can compare it with Zeiss lenses I use with Hasselblad cameras and this camera built-in Fuji lens is just as good as most of Zeiss lenses I use.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I have used various Fuji medium format cameras for over 20 years and the 670 has the typical razor sharp lense I have been accustomed to. I am impressed with the quiet shutter and the light weight of the camera. Prio Fujis were known for theit bulkiness.

I grew up using a Kodak Vigilant 616 bellows-type medium format and I am comfortable with the need to protect the fragility of the 670. I can see how some who have used the heavy cameras of all formats might have trouble with the light weight.

The light meter appears to be accurate and the controls are simple. I recommend it without reservation.

I have a Hasselblad and was looking for something a bit easier to carry everywhere. I also considered a Mamiya 7, but opted for the greater portability of the GF670.

I've run about 25 rolls of film through my GF670 and here are my early impressions.

I carry mine in a lens wrap in a small shoulder bag. It's quick to pull out and get ready for shooting.

To me the camera appears almost absurdly large. It's heavy but well balanced -- oddly, it feels lighter when unfolded. The folding mechanism is quite sturdy and locks open without any play. The bellows look fragile and might make me think twice about pulling the camera out in harsh conditions.

The 6x6/6x7 format switch is inside the camera. Format is set when loading and cannot be changed midroll. The switch takes a bit more force than my fingernail can provide - I use a coin.

Loading is very easy with ingenious pop-outs to enable rapid insertion and removal of spools. I've had a couple of "fat rolls" - loosely wound rolls that allow light to leak in - from improper loading. Make sure that the backing paper is fairly taut across the back to the take-up reel.

For shooting the camera sits naturally in my hands with my left thumb resting on the focusing lug. The controls are generally well-placed and feel solid. I don't particularly like the shutter speed dial in the top left but I'm used to it. Even though the film advance is a wheel rather than a lever, winding is very easy and can be done with the thumb while the camera up to your eye.

The viewfinder is absolutely gorgeous: crystal-clear with a bright rangefinder patch and framelines. Very easy to focus even in the dark. Shutter speeds appear on the right and can be hard to see if you're looking at an angle. Aperture is not visible in the viewfinder.

The shutter is almost silent. For such a large camera it's quite unobtrusive and people seem to get used to it quickly.

I mostly shoot manual exposure but did try a few rolls on automatic with Velvia 50. Exposures were spot on. Exposure compensation of +/-2 stops is easy to dial in.

Screwing filters into the hood is a pain. I wish this was a bit easier.

All in all a great, portable, high-quality medium format camera.

                Very fragile camera

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I have been using this camera for a year and have been happy with the image quality until on my last road trip the camera slid of the backseat onto the carpeted car floor. I didn't think anything of it and continued shooting. All remaining three rolls came back completely out of focus on one side. The lens was shifted out of alignment with the back. Fuji did not take care of the repair for free.

Make sure you handle this camera with kid gloves.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I went through the run around of trying a lot of different 35mm camera systems various permutations of rangefinders, SLRs, Lenses etc. The photo quality was good, but didn't grab you. When it occurred to me that the easiest way to get much better quality was to ditch all this gear and just get a bigger negative instead.

I'm very happy with the GF670, it's very portable for a medium format camera, and it does exactly what you need it to do and no more. Focus, Exposure, Shutter Speed - Click. That simplicity makes the camera a joy to use on a daily basis.

The fact that its a NEW medium format film camera is worth mentioning. You get it factory fresh, with warranty, and unlike used cameras don't have to worry about what the previous owners did with it, or getting expensive repairs with hard to find parts.

The medium format photos are amazingly detailed, and scan much better than 35mm. I'd highly recommend you pick one up if you're ready to move on from 35mm.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

I don't bother to bracket anymore because you simply don't have to.

this is a very easy camera to use and it made my transition into medium format photography very easy. Love the portability of the design, the ease of use and the accurate metering. The flexibility of 6x6 and 6x7 is a great feature. I had a defective unit on my first try (shutter would not fire properly) but B&H quickly replaced the unit and the film i had wasted before realizing that the shutter was not working. I have been able to get some of my best photos ever on just my first few rolls. Very happy with the camera.

Comments about Fujifilm GF670 Rangefinder Folding Camera:

After 5 rolls of film this camera is really becoming a favorite. High quality construction and very compact when folded. All photos have been sharp and the meter appears accurate. Bought the hood and have used it for screw in filters. The hood/filter system works well. However it does take an extra minute to change out filters. Has not been an issue yet as I work slow and careful anyway.
