What's not to say about this lens that you haven't already heard. Big, heavy, built like a tank, superb high quality and durability.

My 3rd L series lens-- I mount on a Canon 60D, and while it makes my camera look like a toy, this thing takes phenomenal photos and is unbelievably sharp at any range. Initially when I took it out of the box, I thought to myself "what did I just do." But, after I snapped a few test shots, that all went away.

Focus is the fastest out of 3 L lens I own, and is really quiet. I use a Black Rapid strap and makes the weight of the lens disappear. With the 60D, I find myself supporting the lens by the tripod mount rather than lifting up from the camera.

The lens case that it comes with is nice, even though you may just put it in your bag, it's a nice option to have. A steep price tag, but well worth it.

The f2.8 and the IS are well worth it to me, for low light and when I can't mount my flash. two IS modes is a nice option as well.

I still revert to the 24-105mm for an outing, only because I probably shouldn't be using the long range as much as I do, but I'm still getting myself used to this glass, and try to use it much as I can.

I'm a little hesitant to bring it out at times because of the attention it will attract, but I have a feeling that will end soon as I'm already getting used to the contrast.

I have been engaged in photography for more than 40 years with a statistical process improvement background. So I was more than interested to see if the 70-200 f-2.8 L II was significantly better than the L I. After 2 days of intensive testing my findings using both an EOS 1DS and 20D body are as follows. Contrast for the L II was slightly better. Resolution at 200mm was consistently 1 pair number lower [less good] at the center at f-2.8, 4.0, and 5.6 on the USAF 1951 resolution chart. Resolution through a series 1 Canon 2X multiplier was equal over the same aperture settings. The extreme edge resolution was seen to be slightly better from images of books on a shelf—"real world". Auto focus was significantly faster in bright light, which may be of benefit depending on what you photograph. Image stabilization is about 1 stop improved, but with the high ISO capabilities of current Canon cameras, a one stop increased setting would equalize this difference at the possible expense of increased noise. I chose not to test another sample, because even if a newer sample were to test one pair number higher [better] than the L I, [a possible manufacturing variation] the improvement would probably not be detectable by viewing a 300 PPI printed version at "normal viewing distance." For my purpose, primarily fine art photography, my results simply do not justify the price. So my advice is to test carefully before committing to an L II purchase; reality vs. your expectations may vary…

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens:

I have used this lens for 5 portrait sessions in studio, and the pictures are as sharp as L Primes. Only downside is how heavy it is, so I just set my camera on tripod and still able to take 3/4body to close-up headshots without having to move, while the picture stayed sharp thoughout the zoom range.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens:

This is the ultimate wedding lens (especially if you're the second photographer getting guest reactions). The length is incredible and the stability is awesome. It is heavy, but it is well made.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens:

Replaced my recently serviced and tuned-up Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L bought over 5 years ago with this new version. In tripod-mounted tests vs the original at all f-stops and focal lengths, the II is clearly sharper in the corners and edges. Difference in center sharpness not so easy to discern. As soon as I tested the lens, took it out to a steeplechase event where I found the percent of keepers was very high. Shooting at 200mm, continuous focus on oncoming leading horses followed closely by other horses was excellent with almost no out-of-focus shots. Since I was shooting at 1/1000 or faster, did not use IS. Zoomed out while following approaching and passing horses with similar satisfying results. I'm impressed and happy I invested in the upgrade.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens:

This lens is astonishing. Is is, without a doubt, the sharpest zoom I've ever used. I use it w my 5D Mark II, and am amazed that it can make images this impressive. It focuses almost instantly, and seems to have less distortion than other tele zooms. Chromatic Aberration is virtually non-existent. The quality of the images made wide open in low light is unbelievable. The only fault I can find is that the tripod ring seems to get in the way w the zoom ring. I was reluctant to spend the $$, but now am convinced this is a lifetime purchase b/c I can't imagine Canon making a better product!

I finally had the extra money and decided to go ahead and add this to my collection. It was money well spent! The results I have gotten from this lens is incredible. It is super sharp at all focal lengths and the IS is awesome.

I am a prime lens snob (love the IQ and the shots that come from having to move around) but I will be the first to admit that the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens is my go to lens for multiple events. I never shoot a wedding, theatre performance, or sporting event with this lens.It is tack sharp at 2.8 and talk about fast to focus!I love the tripod collar. It goes on a monopod for long events.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens:

This lens ends up staying on my camera about 75% of the time. Its so versatile and reliable that I have a hard time finding a situation that calls for other lenses. I am a wildlife/nature photographer and this lens fits most of my needs very well. With it only going to 200mm some may say its not adequate for long telephoto nature and wildlife photography, but I have found this lens to except the 1.4x extender very well and essentially act as a 300mm f4(280mm to be exact). Autofocus is very fast and accurate even with an extender. The lens is somewhat heavy at times but people make it out to be a lot heavier than it actually is. I have no problem lugging it around for a few hours of shooting.

I have 2 other L lenses. the 100-400mm and the 24-70mm. This lens covers everything in between. It's what I needed to photograph some events, especially in low light. My camera is a 5d3 and our high school stadium is poorly lit. After dark I was restricted to using the 24-70mm so I lacked a lot of zoom. My main use for this lens is the high school marching band so it's nice to be able to have the ability to get some close ups under such low lighting conditions. The focus with this lens is right on at 2.8. I do not do portraits with my business, but did do a set with my son and the bokeh is beautiful. Love this lens and so glad to have bought it.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens:

I traded in my Canon 100-400 f4 for the 70-200. The guys at B&H trade in dept were very helpful and very fair. At first I went to that other camera store. The one that starts with an "@"They gave me the run around. My lens had condensation. scratches and I should take to Canon to be repaired befor Ican trade in.im so glad I drove doen 9th Avenue that day!Thank you B&HI shoot a lot of football games and thought i needed the extra 200mm. My photos with the 100-400 wre good but the tight shots had some grain. With the 70-200 my tight shots are professional quality. Like a chef, the best ingredients make the perfect dish. Well this lens is the best. Super fast.
