As a full time professional photographer this ball head is totally great it supports my Nikon camera and a 70 to 200 zoom with no problems you can go from landscape to protrait so darn fast and it grips well. I have it on a carbon tripod and now I can take great time exposures using cable release and this thing is totally steady for natural light weddings I never have liked those other brackets because they bounce so much when rotated. I know this is a special order from our good friends and they took care of me well. It is worth it. Go on manfrottos web and see the clip. I am a left handed person this bayby will convert. for those doing copy work like my self it tilts down to the floor in a snap. This has replaced my old joy stick model and the flipflop bracket.

That's now 2 years that I'm using the Manfrotto Joystick head. This is my first ball head. I mainly do landscape photography and fine art reproductions and it is nearly impossible to make finite adjustments while framing my subject. When using my D800 mounted with a 80-200 mm 2.8 it just can't hold it even with the friction control at his maximum. It's huge, takes a lot of place (in your car, in your armoire, on your back) and is quite heavy. This joystick also gets in the way while shooting weird angles near the ground. Positive points : it quickly unlocks and moves, you don't have to adjust three knobs to move your camera. It's solid and well build. Good for small DSLR's without heavy lenses or accessories, if you are looking for an easy and quick use and if you don't care so much about precise placements for your camera. I couldn't offer me another head till now, but I must say that I'm now happy to be able to change for another one.

Not for all....

Comments about Manfrotto 327RC2 Joystick Head:

I shoot a D7000 with an 18-300mm lens. This lens is not equipped with a shoe to mount via the lens. This puts a fair amount of weight out in front of the camera. Saying that, the head feels loose even with no camera on it. I ensured the hand grip/trigger was pulled all the way out to ensure it was locked. It was still loose and sloppy. I can see that at 300mm this is asking a lot of any head. However, even at 18mm the head wants to tilt forward. Tried everything, but for landscapes and wildlife, this clearly will not work. Not saying this won't work for you, but it's not about the rated weight of the head (I was well within that), it's about the amount of weight and how far forward your lens (weight) is. I will have to go back to my Manfrotto 496RC2. The 496 allows me to crank down a mechanical tension necessary to hold the lens, just not as conveniently. Had to send back the Joystick Head. B&H was easy to work with and I will continue to buy through them.

Mediocre

Comments about Manfrotto 327RC2 Joystick Head:

Was looking to add another Manfrotto ball-head for a new camera stand, but the model we already have is discontinued. This one doesn't seat the shoe as tightly/as easily and there's a slight shift when you release the grip. The tension seems like it should be tighter than the unit allows. None of these things are so bad that I need to return it - I have the impression that I just need more time to work with the unit and get used to it.

Comments about Manfrotto 327RC2 Joystick Head:

My only complaint is that the "quick release" lever is actually TWO levers. They have a "safety" lever which prevents the quick release from unlocking by itself, or as I like to say, "an extra lever which takes the "quick" out of "quick release". They should make the second lever optional, or able to lock open, so you can choose not to use it. I don't feel it's needed, and I'm looking for a way to modify it.

Otherwise, it's a really nice product.

Comments about Manfrotto 327RC2 Joystick Head:

Bought one of these a while back, and it is *very* good at what it does. It's light, fast, rugged, solid, and fast. Yes, fast twice. I've been able to get rock solid tripod shots off using this that I never would have been able to get with a traditional head, given the need for much more adjustment time, and it locks in solid.

The downside is that it is frustrating if you're trying to finely tune in a shot. There's always a bit of slop and sag after letting go of the release and it moves the framing just enough to be annoying. But, that's not really the intended purpose of the product, and I believe it's inherent in this design, so I'm not really upset by it.

Comments about Manfrotto 327RC2 Joystick Head:

Framing is difficult because (the one I have at least) does not maintain it's set point. the mechanism inside has 2 tabs which lock the ball socket to the housing and they do not fit well. result is that once I compose the shot and remove my hands from the camera, the camera droops about 1/32" - just enough to need to recompose. Ergonomics are not ideal due to the release blade favoring the right hand, which I typically keep on the camera controls - so I switched it to left hand side, which puts the release blade in my palm rather than at fingers. this design does put the camera close to the pivot point, which is very nice when shooting portrait orientation but that fact alone is not enough to outweigh the drooping and ergo issues.

While being a bit heavy and bulky it uses these same traits to provide a trusting and firm hold for your camera. I used with the D810, battery grip and 105mm lens with no issues concernign droop or movement. My biggest issue with this is that placing the handle on the right side just seems counter intuitive to good usage. Yes, you can flip it around to the left where you can make more frequent adjustments but I'm just not sure why Manfrotto chooses to do it this way. -1 for the handle being on the right.

This is a very versatile head. Good range of motion and easy to convert to "left handed" operation. It's rock solid with my 7D coupled with a 70-200mm and a 2x tele-converter. A bit heavy compared to a standard ball head but it's advantages far exceed the extra steps in framing with a ball head. Well built and looks good.

Comments about Manfrotto 327RC2 Joystick Head:

I use this with a 5D Mark III with a battery grip and a wireless mic receiver in the hotshoe, and it locks firm and sure. This is not for any sort of panning/tilting with video because it is not smooth, it is for adjusting your camera for static shots.

It lets you adjust easily and quickly, and holds. Another well-built Manfrotto product.

I bought this Manfrotto to go with one of their Monopods. My friend was using one and he remarked how much he liked it. I tried his a couple of times and it seemed to work quite well and was very stable. I have an Induro Tripod with one of their ball heads but I wanted some thing different from the ball head. I have used it now a couple of times doing landscape work in more challenging locations and it's just right.

Comments about Manfrotto 327RC2 Joystick Head:

I love all Manfrotto products but this has got to be my most useful piece of equipment, other than my Nikon. The quality is very high and the precision of the joystick is incredible. The handle is a little bulky but you need it to be the size it is to set your camera in the exact position you desire to counteract the weight of your camera. The locking base is awesome in how quickly you can remove/lock your camera and at the same time be so secure. The built in level is also very useful. I use my tripod for Real Estate and Product Photography so being able to be mobile and set up my shots quickly is invaluable. That is where this specific ball head really shines, when you need to move quickly through a shoot but also be able to adjust the camera to take multiple shots/angles. Highly reccommend!

I had the former model that they called a pistol grip- glad they changed the name. After having it 11 years and wore it our I got this one. Very smooth - holds its place and compact.

Comments about Manfrotto 327RC2 Joystick Head:

I have only just started to use this mount, but immediately noticed that it's somewhat difficult to get into position, especially with the camera button on the right hand side. It cold be user-error, but I had to put the mount on backwards in order to use my left hand to squeeze the joystick and track objects.

At the moment, I have it attached to my monopod and it DOES help increase stability in keeping the whole setup still. Jury is still out as to whether this will become my favourite piece of equipment- I simply haven't used it enough. However, if you don't have a strong grip (i.e., need help of a burly friend to open the can of pickles) then this is NOT for you.

                                Gracias
