Let's start this off by saying that this is a great product. I use it with a Canon T2i and its is nearly perfect. Adds a little bit of stabilization by making contact with my face, gives a near-perfect image with almost no distortion, and does its job by allowing for faster focus pulling. As a package, I am happy I bought it and it has and will serve its purpose well. The only problem with the package is the mounting bracket. It's pretty useless. The sticky mount is infinitely better. A non-issue because it comes with each and it may fit your style better than mine. It also doesn't have a diopter, which again is a non-issue for me because I don't need one. Now, my only issue is the price. Almost $250. It is worth every dollar I spent I think, but is it for you? The LCDVF, while giving a 2X magnification may be a better bang for your buck and they are coming out with a T2i specific versions soon, as well as other more affordable options like the Hoodloupe with 3X eyepiece.I'm glad I bought it, but take the hefty price into consideration. If you wear eye-glasses, go for the Z-Finder Pro with the diopter. Getting several extension brackets, in my opinion, isn't worth the effort. Before buying: See if you can try using a Z-Finder or any other viewfinder system. It's a different shooting experience and is not for everyone.Bottom Line: If a you want an SLR Viewfinder, its pricey, but the Z-Finder Jr. is definitely worth it.

Background info: I use this with the T2i/550D. My feedback may not be applicable to other camera types.

So I got the guts after reading many many reviews on the Hoodman, LCDVF, zacuto viewfinders, and DIY solutions. I have to say - the lcd screen looks amazingly sharp using the z finder jr. If you can get it to mount right.

I'm not sure if I'm mounting it right, but if you just happen to nudge the viewfinder, you can end up with a shifted viewfinder. It doesn't come with instructions - you have to figure it out yourself. Granted that it is a very simplistic design, I would think that instructions would be included regardless if its a "some assembly required" type product. If you don't happen to notice, all your footage could be skewed one way or the other.

For the price point, I would think that having it defogged or including defogging wipes would be a good way to keep customers happy while using this product. The viewfinder will fog after a few seconds of use. I thought I would be able to deal with the fogging, but it actually is annoying. If you have the extra cash, I'd upgrade to one of the other zacuto viewfinders.

Overall, you will be happy with the viewfinders ability to show you your LCD screen with sharp clarity, and to show the entire screen (when mounted correctly).

Minus 1 star for the assembly (easily nudged, no instructions)
Minus 1 star for not including defogging wipes (or a better solution) for a viewfinder that will surely fog for the price point.

Adhesive attachment without on LCD

Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

I'm not a big fan of adding adhesives to my DSLR because taking it off would be a problem and might damage the LCD screen later on. The metal bracket that comes with it seems too edgy, flashy, and heavy, and will feel unpleasant overall so I didn't use them. So what I did was buy a LCD snap on protector and used the adhesive mount on that instead. I find it better when there's no bracket mount used (besides the adhesive mount of course), so you can see a clearer and 'on the pixel' image. The brackets are strong if you need them, and might sometimes be too difficult to separate by hand but that's what gives the sturdiness to the product.I haven't have it fog up on me yet, and hope it doesn't. It does its job, especially outdoors on a sunny day. It's not as pricey than many others, and it's made by a company that you can trust.

I have not experienced the persistent fog problems that I've heard others dealing with - knock on wood. To me this was hands down the right choice over the Pro since I'm on a budget. I also wear glasses and have had no issues with sharpness or even needed the extra spacers. Highly recommend the snap on mounting frame over the metal frame that uses the tripod mount but this is now included in package as well.

A great tool for getting that exact focus needed when shooting video on a DSLR. Used to before shoot without one and sometimes I'd realize my shots were a tad soft on the focus. The Zacuto Z-Finder Jr. helps a lot now.

      Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

As someone who always prefered to use the LCD on prosumer video cameras with viewfinders, my expectations for this product weren't too high. However, after hearing many rave reviews of the Z-Finder, I decided to try it out.The clarity and detail of the LCD screen that the Z-Finder JR provides is far superior, in my opinion, to any dedicated viewfinder on a video camera, including the Sony EX-3, which is basically the same thing: an LCD with a magnifying glass. All the negatives that I've expereinced are related to the ergonomics and the mounting. I found that the Z-Finder doesn't really improve stability for me, since it requires that I hold the camera higher than I usually would, since the Z-Finder doesn't articulate like a dedicated viewfinder would. Additionally, it's kind of a pain to take off. I would prefer if it could flip up while still on like the viewfinder on the Sony EX-3 or FS100.Overall, the Z-Finder really helps me imagine how what I'm filming will look like on a big screen, in terms of focus, framing, and exposure. An added benefit is extended battery life for the camera, since having the screen in darkness allows you to lower the LCD brightness. I was skeptical at first, but it's well worth the investment.

      Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

I bought this for personal use after having used the Pro version in a staff position. On the initial set-up, the eyecup wasn't going on straight. Upon closer inspection, a corner of the plastic threading was broken and in the bottom of the box. Additionally, I found the eyecup/shade design fiddly. Finally, the aluminum mount feels like an afterthought. Overall, the build quality did not inspire the same confidence as the "Pro" version that I was used to. The good news is that Zacuto and B&H are known for their customer service so users can buy without concern. But, I decided that for such a critical item, only the best would do and have exchanged for the Pro version.

      Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

This is the first loupe I've used (so have nothing to compare with), but it seems to work surprisingly well with my Canon 6D. I can finally see the viewfinder very clearly even in broad daylight and focus easily. Makes impossible shooting possible.

I bought this over others because of the Zacuto brand and the fact that you didn't have to use the sticker around the LCD to mount. The mounting bracket works quite well once you figure out how to use it, but can be tricky at first (make sure you press the viewfinder firmly against the LCD before tightening the tripod base).

If you have presbyopia, you'll need the extender frames, which work quite well.

          Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

Let me start by saying I love this thing. I use a Canon 7D for photography and video, and my images are sharp now. It does exactly what it's supposed to do: you attach it to your viewfinder and it allows you to get intimate with the image. It took a day or so to get used to the fact that - since the viewfinder is magnified, the pixels are also magnified. Now that I'm used to using this, I can't imagine NOT having it. There is no guesswork in focusing anymore.

Now for the complaints: The metal mounting bracket is very poorly designed, and I found it to be completely useless. The alternate mounting method involves a plastic frame which you glue to the back of your camera body, so you can pop the viewfinder on and off. Since a lot of people complain that the fit is too tight, I rounded the edges off the "fillet" of the mounting bracket with a nail file, just enough so that the Z-finder pops on and off with ease.

This is the reason for the 4-star review. Zacuto would be a better brand if they spent less time making their products look like Batman and more time making them functional. For the high price, I expect a highly functional item, not something I have to tweak. However, you DO get a durable item that works well. And their instructions are very easy to follow.

Product is incompatible with D800 that's just for starters.
The mounting bracket is 100% useless.
The mounting frames snap to the finder so tight that it takes a lot a force to take it off! Before I filed the teeth off I actually had to hit it to disloge it!
Overall this piece of equipment was probably designed exclusively for Mark II and they "forgot" to mention that.

                Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

I am very pleased with my Z Finder Jr. It's light weight fits the screen of my 7D perfectly, and makes shooting video 100 times easier, especially outdoors or in other bright conditions. The magnification is excellent and makes getting the proper focus a breeze. I would definitely recommend buying the the Zacuto Gorilla plate with it. I creates for a much more snug fit on the camera body and allows you to take off the metal mounting plate that it comes with, which is very flimsy.

The only thing I wish this priece of equipment did was rotate vertically like that if a normal video camera. This would allow you to not always have to crouch down to the LCD screens level. Which can be annoying but by no means is it a deal breaker.

Overall this is a great product!!

This product does exactly what it claims, I have no trouble focusing when shooting video on my 7D, and is clear as day. My trouble is not with its function, but in its construction. I had to order a new mounting plate on the first day after ripping it off the camera trying to remove the Z-finder. I followed all instructions and am still having trouble removing it without peeling off the mount. My stock tripod screw was not long enough to compensate the steel mounting plate, having trouble finding a longer but compatible screw. Neither of these problems prevent function, but I guess after dropping 200+ dollars I expected a little more ease of application. Great product, just be prepared to make custom adjustments to your rig to make it work for you.

                  Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

A lot of people complain about this viewfinder as being overpriced. In reality, all the other ones are underprices and this one is good price. There are many $30-150 viewfinders you can buy, but they either are not durable, have bad glass, lens focusing problems, or not a good mounting option. This viewfinder has all that, and a comfortable eyepiece. The bracket is not a good design but I have it mounted with a sticky frame and it works well.

2.5x is much better as you can frame your shot much easier yet still being close enough to focus correctly. 3x gives headaches, and you cannot see the red blinking light at the top right corner due to how zoomed in it is.

I give 2 out of 5 for this product because it is really overpriced. Zacuto products are built well but the form factor is bad.

The z-finder Sr. isn't worth the money. Just get the Jr. and you'll be happy.

                    Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

I highly recommend a Zacuto eyepiece for the DSLR if you plan on shootig any outdoor video. It is difficult to set the exposure accuratly and get a solid focus on the highly exposed LCD withou this tool

This a useful piece of kit for my 7D. It magnifies the screen to the perfect size and gives you a crystal clear view. Getting that perfect focus is now so much easier. The build quality is solid and heavy duty, I'm glad I went with Zacuto. The supplied metal bracket mount was hard to setup correctly, and didn't seem like a good fit, but they also include the traditional peel and stick frame for the back of the camera.

                    Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:
