Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG HSM Lens for Pentax K Mount:

Got out and shot a Bald Eagle with it. The lens was attached to a tripod and everything came out very sharp. I've also shot hand held and was blown away by THE LENS' shake reduction system. Frankly it worked better than the K-3's shake reduction (and, to me, that's saying something).

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG HSM Lens for Pentax K Mount:

Wow what reach, what fast focus! Sigma makes it easy on the wallet to grab distant wildlife and maybe even sports shots; what a super quality lens. Just be ready; it's quite a weighy beast, especially if you'll only 5 foot something. I personally could only get shots using a monopod. When it comes to low light, only my tripod would do. I blame my lack of upper body mass and strength, not the lens. In order to carry this and use it in the field, I'd need to do even more lifting in the gym. Finally after a day of deep contemplation and with heavy heart, I packed it back up for return. Guess I will just do as many good pros say, "Get closer!"

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG HSM Lens for Pentax K Mount:

This is a wonderful lens. It is crystal clear, the optical stabilizer is tremendous. I use this lens with a Pentax K-30. The lens fits very snugly on my camera. Most of my photos are hand held and are very sharp even at 500mm. I often use a continuous focus setting with wonderful results of birds in flight. This lens gathers lots of light. Early morning and late afternoon shots are not dark. I have used this lens in BC, Oregon and Central America. I hesitated a long time before purchasing the lens. Don't worry, it's great. If I were to purchase the Sigma lens again I might buy the Sigma 50-500mm. The 50-500 is more expensive, but changing lenses less frequently limits potential dust and sensor dust and might make it worth the money. The 50-500 would allow for a broader range of subjects. However, if you buy the 150-500 lens you will be very satisfied with photo quality.

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG HSM Lens for Pentax K Mount:

I bought this lens after realizing my Pentax K-30 with 70-300 tele would not be adequate for my bird photos. It focuses surprisingly fast and almost silently. The quality of photos is comparable to my Pentax 70-300 (very good). Do read the user manual and practice with it before an important shoot - it is fairly heavy and more difficult to hand-hold. The OS image stabilization settings also need to be tested out for your style of shooting (I turned it off). I had heard that this lens would be a little softer than desirable, but with a little work I see my photos are just as sharp as the branded 70-300 and 100% better than the 70-300 with a 2x teleconverter. Sigma's lens is a game changer for me, and well worth the cost.

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG HSM Lens for Pentax K Mount:

I purchased this lens for photographing Eagles and other wildlife. And it has not disappointed me. This lens is sharp and fast with great color rendition. Distortion is imperceptible. I'm using it with the Pentax K3, So optical stabilization is not necessary. However you might see some improvement on some of the older Pentax cameras such as the K100D super. This lens is heavy, but I Expected that. any lens of this type will be of a similar size and weight. Construction quality is excellent. Everything works as intended. There is some lens creep at the vertical but most lenses have this problem. It does have a Zoom lock on it but it only works at 150mm focal length. The only improvements that I could see to this lens is to expand the lens lock feature to lock at 200, 300, 400 and 500mm. Other than that this is an excellent lens at a great price.

Still new, have not used much yet. Spring is around the corner and it will get a workout doing nature photos. Got to show it to my wife first and take my lumps. A bit heavy as to be expected from a lens this size. Lock takes care of creep, just remember to lock and unlock. Focus is a bit slow but very quiet and accurate. Now need another lens to fill the gap between this and my 17-50 2.8, should have sprung for the 50-500, see comment about lumps. Very pleased with lens so far. Hey, it came with two year extended warrenty from Sigma included!

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG HSM Lens for Pentax K Mount:

I am a hobbiest, and have only had the lens for a couple of weeks now, but so far I am very pleased. The images a very sharp, even at both ends. Auto focus is slow in dim light with the Pentax K3, but I prefer to focus by hand. With manual focus I get very sharp images even in low light.

I read about complaints with zoom creep. Have not experienced that, not even with aiming straight up at the moon.

For the price, this lens is a great value.

I always thought I should stay clear from brands other than Canon, I was wrong.
This lens rocks, coupled with my EOS 5D Mark III it gives me great range without costing too much. Very fast focusing, razor sharp at 6.3 or above and very light considering the range. Not weather sealed, I managed to keep it clean on a trip to the swamps, but I wish it had the weather resistant features of my other lenses.

I have been concentrating on photographing birds and have made approximately 1000 images with this lens. I was immediately impressed with how quietly and smoothly it autofocused. I read many comments about how heavy it is but I have not found that to be a problem. I'm able to make good images when hand holding and shooting birds on the wing. In combination with a mono pod it makes for a quick and light system to hike with. The lens lock is very useful.

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG HSM Lens for Pentax K Mount:

I recently purchased the lens after reading a lot of reviews and opinions. I have used it for bird and wildlife shots and a few sports shots. The photos are sharp, even when not using a tripod. All shots were taken in good lighting, so I can't say at this time how well the lens would perform under challenging lighting conditions. Autofocus
Because of the weight of the lens and camera (a Pentax K5), a tripod/monopod is highly recommended. The lens is well built, and considering the cost, this is a bargain for a 500mm zoom. Plus I received the lens in two days delivery time. I am one happy camper.

It is a heavy lens and it has a very slow focus time, at least on my Pentax K 20.

The autofocus is extremely quiet, I am unable to hear it.

The Optical Stabilization has 2 modes.
OFF = mounted solid on a tripod.
        Mode 1 = Lens Handheld.
Mode 2 = Lens on monopod or panning on a tripod.

The two different modes is a nice touch depending upon the amount of lens shake that might occur.

This is an excellent lens, I found it worked exceptionally well with or without the tripod. I am glad it has an optical stabilizer in it, often one cannot use a tripod when you are shooting action shots. I would definitely recommend this Sigma lens.

Having now used this lens in a variety of contexts I have found it very sharp, responsive and accurate. Using my Pentax K5 with the internal shake reduction off and using the built in IS of the lens allows reasonable shutter speeds at low light, without having to up the ISO too much.

A good all round performer that complements my existing lenses and gives me that extra reach.

Bought this lens for bird photography. Been trying to make do with 300mm lense for a few years and decided I needed to go "big" or go home.
Money being a factor, this one seemed to be the best value for what I wanted to use it for. My first trip ended up a cloudy, dark and chilly day. I thought I'd need a very high ISO for the conditions, but was able to get some good, sharp photos of a couple eagles at ISO 400. Auto focus was very fast. Used a shutter speed a bit slower than I'd prefer, but the OS system apparently compensated for any movement. It's a lot of weight for hand held, but it worked fine. I would recommend this lens to others looking for something for "hobby" use. For the cost compared to "better" lenses, it's a real value

I chiefly use this lens for bird photography. I have used this lens and got fairly sharp pictures handheld. The OS system works quite well for me on my pentax K-x. It is a fairly sizable lens, many people might not be able to handhold it successfully. I am very happy with it, my only reservation is that mount has a little play in it, it is not perfectly tight.
