I'm a full-time photographer who has to spend a bit of time in the cold for sports coverage and portraits.

The main pull for me were the fold-back finger tips and the silicone grip. The grip holds, but the fold-back fingers are only held open by small magnets and fall free when pressing the shutter. It's not a deal breaker, but it gets cumbersome at times. Using a phone isn't as easy as I would have hoped either. I imagine velcro would be a stronger solution.

Aesthetically, the gloves are great with the exception of the golden tips on the index finger; I'd much rather the glove be entirely black for subtlety.

OK if the temps are not too cold. The flip tips are not insulated and I think the conductive material transmits your hand heat away - my flip tip finger tips froze. So I wear a thin liner now. They were good in mildly cold temps but not in real cold temps (say 32 degrees). The silicon nubs don't really grip well either. I used these all day in 45 degree temps and loved them. Went out to shoot at a jetty in 32 degrees with wind and froze.. I was not happy.

Comments about Freehands Men's Soft Shell Gloves (M ):

The gloves worked perfectly, and kept my hands warm enough to operate the buttons on the Canon 7D. I didn't find that the magnets to keep back the index finger and thumb covers were weak, in spite of what other reviewers found. In all, a good "fit" for my photography work.

    Nice idea but...

Comments about Freehands Men's Soft Shell Gloves (M ):

Seem to be well made but thumb and index finger dexterity isn't so great. Pointed tips on thumb and index finger make using a touch screen clumsy. With finger tips exposed, magnets don't hold flap securely so they are in the way. Insulation in thumb and index finger tip is less than rest of glove, so when everything is closed up those tips get colder than the rest of your hand. Otherwise, fits well and blocks wind so is fairly warm. I think I will go back to thinner, better fitting gloves where I can just operate the camera without bare fingers.

I bought these to shoot the Philadelphia Mummers Parade. It was 35 degrees all day. They are very warm. I used them outside for 12 hour and loved them. When the tips are folded back the camera is very easy to use. The grip on the palm is very helpful. I had nothing slip from my hands. They are not bulky at all.

Light weight gloves and very warm. They have a comfortable feel. Being able to expose the thumb and index finger on each hand makes them perfect for handling a camera in cold weather. I would have given five stars, but the magnets that hold the glove finger tips out could be stronger...great idea though. Yes, I would recommend them.

Comments about Freehands Men's Soft Shell Gloves (M ):

I was booked for a stedi cam shoot in Vermont. After checking the weather early in the week I realized I needed gloves. I found a few pairs at B & H (Always my first option) and decided on the Freehands Soft Shell Gloves. I sent away for them on Monday and Wednesday there were here. They fit true to size as a medium sized male. The four finger tips that open are easy to open and the magnet for each keeps them back. The temperature was 25 degrees with a wind chill near 0 and my hands were toasty warm!! I would recommend again and again. I actually had a couple other photogs hounding to try them.

Comments about Freehands Men's Soft Shell Gloves (M ):

I used these out in Yellowstone last week. I normally wear liner gloves, thin enough to still have control over dials, buttons, and lens changes. I knew they wouldn't hold in -5 degree weather, though. I wore these on top -- still had control, kept my fingers warm, and fit, well, like a glove.
